View Full Version : Why we've struggled since Kawhi got back...

For those having meltdowns and jumping off cliffs cause the Spurs have played inconsistently last week or so... It'll take some time but I'm sure we'll all agree that we have a higher ceiling when everyone is healthy.

Kawhi minutes restriction is a real issue but I wouldn't forget that the Spurs didn't look that great lately.

There are many guys playing poorly, in deep slumps...

Last games vs Suns, Grizz in Memphis, Dallas 1st and 3rd game, -all without Kawhi- were close against a few of the worst teams-record in the league.

The longer it takes them to peak, the better the chance of maintining that peak throughout the playoffs. So I'm in no kind of hurry for them to get there, tbh.

6 out of the last 7 seasons the Spurs have started off to great starts from the beginning. Only in '15 did they have a bad start and that was due to injuries. A lot of people forget about how the Spurs used to not peak until after March hence the old Spurs term SPAM which stands for Spurs peak after March.

true. historically, when we're hot going into the playoffs, is when we make our best runs. 2012 sucked though.

haven't watched a game this year, is the team under .500, I hope they make the playoffs, this is truly a bad time in spurs history, so sad

They will either peak at the right time, and it could be a special run.. or this will just be an injury riddled season and will end in the first or second round of the playoffs...

Rudy Gay also on minutes restrictions.

This is why Kawhi should be coming off the bench until he's ready for more minutes. It maintains some consistency with rotations.

I think Rudy should be playing 30+ mins a game.

Maybe "peaking" doesn't exist, but what does exist is good and bad moments/streaks. I prefer the Spurs to get to the playoffs on a good moment, tbh.

Adding a player like Kawhi has to mess everything up, but they can figure it out. Just takes time.

Rudy has already been playing 30 minutes on occasion.

Yep. Long season. Spurs usually don't reach their height until the RRT, and if no more injuries crop up, I expect that to happen again. December is always the hardest month to get through.

Of course it takes time. But also he has played just 15 minutes in the first half of last two games and the offense still looks like shit in the 2nd half.

There are Spurs players that started better the season but in last 5-6 games are not doing well. If they can reach that level again, esp young guys, everything will look fine.

Spurs have gotten off the great starts in the Wing Stop era, but even so, late November to the middle of January were about the worst they played the whole year. Same with the Rockets series.

Pau has been shitting the bed mostly and Rudy IMO hasn't been playing that well. He scored well tonight but not the previous games and He's still very TO prone.

Dijon and Davis have come along strongly though, Manu has played well, Mills is finally making shots and Tony has been effective.

Looking forward to having a full team but it's going to take time. Glad to take care of teams they need to beat though.

This season was really unusual with the number of games missed by important (in usage, minutes, and impact) rotation players, coupled and the fact the team was guard heavy. It's given an opportunity to Bryn, Davis, and Dijon, who have stood out. Eventually Pop will have to optimize everyone and that's also going to take time. This season is somewhat fluid.

Pau's one of the players that played better early, the same about DJ and Brandon. They looked great in the first games then were non-factors and improved in last two games esp DJ

Anyway, inconsistency is part of the process in young players development so it's fine but it makes look the offense even weirder...

Was anyone disgusted that three or four times in a row that Leonard attacked he was clearly fouled and the ref's swallowed their whistle? The guy never gets fair treatment like other stars do.

Dude that's the beef I had. I went into haters thread expecting to see that but nope. CJ Williams fouled him often. Pop was losing it and Kawhi was clearly frustrated. Since when does a rookie scrub get that much respect against a superstar. It was baffling and pure disrespect.
