Any thoughts on the FA market? Seems like plenty available.
Landry, Watkins, Gabriel. A few others. Would all make a difference.

Don't overspend for one, imo. Build on the running game, bring Butler back, trade Dez, draft one in the mid rounds with great upside but less experience/name notoriety.
1st 3 picks should be..... DT, FS, LB in no particular order.

I don't know. Unless Dak starts to throw deep more, I'd like for them to have a great possession receiver like Landry.
I would like to see what they have in Butler though.
And I sure wouldn't go D, D, D in the draft. They've go to take a hard look at shoring up the OL. They were awful when Smith was out.
I think the young secondary can hold it's own.

Why is Dez still there? I have seen his teammates rolling their eyes on the sidelines for a few years, he's a joke and simply not worth the hassle. Yes, Witten has to go, he's just too sluggish.
The Cowboys need a speed receiver and yes Prescott can throw deep. They need a guy who can back off defenders, which opens up the underneath stuff. Any of the top NCAA TE's can replace Witten in time.
A free agent would need to run a 4.3 something for me as would a college kid at the combine.
Green Man

Jarvis Landry on the Cowboys would be ideal tbh. Zeke on first down for 6 yards, 2nd down pass to Landry for 4 yards, rinse and repeat.

Dallas Goedert is a local kid considered the top TE in the draft. Comparisons to Gronk more than anybody. Big dude ( even for a TE), soft hands, can jump out of the gym, etc.
Considering they need TE, run blocking, and receiver might want to

Butler ran a 4.3. IMO, they don't need to waste dollars on a speed guy if Dak can't consistently hit them downfield.
I'd rather see them get a good possession guy that can catch the ball in the middle of the field.

Unless a team has a guy capable of beating double coverage down field what happens? Yep, everybody plays up closer to the line, now what?
I played RB/DB, it's a whole other deal facing a speed guy you know can blow right by you.

As I said, they have a guy that can get down the field. Regardless of the drops. And unless they change something up, the Cowboys O is based on running and short passes. Why pay the money for a #1 speed guy when he may not see a catch able pass every game?
Landry would be perfect for them right now. Sure it would be great to get both. But Butler is fast enough to make the defense account for him. Even Williams has decent speed.

What cornerback doesn't have decent speed? It's when ya have a Tyreek Hill, a Julio Jones, a Desuen Jackson, a Sammy Watkins, that guy who can blow by any cornerback where fear sets in. So here comes that safety to help out, which does what for a running game?
Butler has done what?
Deion Sanders and Darrell Green are both in the HOF because they could run with any receiver.

Again, not saying he's a better WR but his speed is on par with Watkins.

And slow Jerry Rice (4.3; never) could beat any corner.
Decent speed and the ability accelerate. Accelerate means start, stop, and change direction quickly you damn oaf. Receivers need to get open, pure straight away speed does not get that done necessarily. Ask Renaldo Nehemiah.
You understand so little small fella. Still stuck on Bob Hayes. You are pitiful.

Dallas also did not have the offensive line this year. They actually had injuries. Prescott got put under pressure and got hit a whole bunch for the first time. That's when the happy feet and interceptions occur. The big 3 at guard(s) and center stayed tough so the Cowboys could run. But losing tackles, that's very tough.

And you still don't get it. Fast guys can be very easy to cover if they can't accelerate. If they can't jitterbug it and read defenders and or get defenders off stride. It takes more than speed. You want some guy that scares a D using pure speed. It does not work that way. You can play safeties very deep and still get run by with a player that has caught the ball in front of you.
You need to stop. You live in the world of Bob Hayes, that world is gone. You want to talk football because you think you know track. It's not working. And I sure wouldn't go D, D, D in the draft. They've go to take a hard look at shoring up the OL. They were awful when Smith was out.
I think the young secondary can hold it's own.
Smith will have back surgery and should be fine, a-la DeMarcus Lawrence last year. Drafting a swing tackle is important but you don't draft that until the 4th round at least.
Cooper was solid at LG, so you bring him back. You're not going to have perennial all-pro's at every position, you just don't want to have holes on the lines and Cooper is a nice player to have, not a liability and a very good run blocker.
Still, drafting an OT, OG, and a couple WRs in the mid rounds would be good after an all-defense first three rounds. Cowboys have four 4th rounders and two 5th rounders because of all the teams that overpaid the Cowboys' crappy secondary of last generation in free agency last offseason.

Speed doesn't make the receiver. See Adam Thelin.
Different receivers beat you different ways... that's why it's ideal to have a variety. There are 4 general categories of receiver in today's NFL:
A) Big possession receiver/flank run blocker/jump ball catcher/red zone monster ... Best case: Megatron/Terrell Owens, Average: Dwayne Bowe/Dez Bryant, Worst case: Noah Brown
B) Pure speed receiver/deep threat on any down/returner/gadget player ... Best case: DeSean Jackson/Tyreek Hill, Average: Tommylee Lewis, Worst case: John Ross III
C) Route running wizard who can line up from anywhere ... Best case: Adam Thielen/Jordy Nelson, Average: Riley Cooper, Worst case: Jordan Taylor
D) Quick, elusive and small, great in the flats and shallow ... Best case: Wes Welker/Julian Edelman, Average: Cole Beasley, Worst case: Trent Taylor
Ideally, you'd like to have at least one of each. Avoid the "jack of all trades" guys, but if you can find someone elite in two or more of these categories, you've got a blue chip.
- Julio Jones fits both A and B and is elite
- Antonio Brown fits both B and D and is elite
- OBJ fits both B and C and is elite
- Megatron fit both A and B and was elite
In fact, if you can't find one of the above type of "double elite" receivers, don't draft a WR in the first round at all, imo.

I think the Eagles screwed up by paying Alshon Jeffery, tbh. I thought they were better that that when they committed to Jernigan, but they bit the cheese. Could have brought back both Burton and Bradham for combined half the price of Jeffery, but they screwed it up & now they'll likely lose both in the offseason.
Jeffery got a big fat goose egg on the stat sheet against a bad Raiders secondary a couple weeks ago on Xmas night. He only looked good the majority of the season because Wentz was on the team. Remember how average he looked at times with Cutler? Yeah.

And C Trump's all because you rely less on the quarterback for pinpoint accuracy. Adam Thelin it's wide open so many times because of his route running.
Every receiver you listed as a speed guy. Deep streaks or fade routes falling out of bounds make highlights but I'll still take a guy who just gets open all the time.

although, look at Green Bay this year for the counterexample, the route runners were the ones that Hundley couldn't find to save his life (that Rodgers has loved his whole career) whereas the big physical guy Davante Adams emerged as the best WR that didn't need a good QB to produce.
The more I look at analytics the more I'm actually convinced that Keenum is a pretty damn good quarterback, and it's not a fluke. He did far better than Goff last year with the same team and a bad coaching situation, for instance. He's been at least decent throughout his career and surrounded by very little talent, comes to Minnesota where there is some talent and he starts looking like himself.

His first year he fell into the best offensive line in the league and things were peachy. The D improves but without those tackles? Totally stagnant. With or without Zeke that's a just above .500 team. They got gifted the Oakland game. And the kicking game that had been the best... Gone. Really consistent NFL winners Pats, Steelers, etc... can deal with these issues because they know what they have at QB.
Gotta have tackles with better D and a good kicking game with Prescott not yet proven. Or, get Dak killed next season. Receivers are everywhere to be had.

It's strange that you're so hellbent that the Cowboys made a mistake getting rid of Romo, yet you're happy to see the Clippers essentially do the same thing with Chris Paul.

He loves Romo because he's the other Phillip Rivers.
But yeah, Kellen Moore has sucked since college. Couldn't get on the field in Detroit and terrible in limited action in Dallas. Why isn't Romo the QB coach? That would make a lot of sense. He's extremely smart.

Names fast guys and refuses to acknowledge that it's the guys that get open that will burn you. The speedsters are a home run hitter. The fact is that soft hands and route running will get you more deep yards than a quick guy that you play soft on. Deep plays are mostly made from biting on the underneath. Defensive s are getting bigger, faster, stronger. QBs are expected to be scramblers nowadays.
Without fear of the underneath route, why risk getting beat deep? Think.

Guys like you have looking at 40 times so much and that's why Thelin has always been overlooked. Of course you need to mix things up. But your bread and butter can't be a burner. Not sure why you seem to think a slightly slower guy that is open more often is vastly inferior to a one dimensional guy. Go pick up Usain Bolt if it's so easy and make him a cowboy.

Don't overspend for one, imo. Build on the running game, bring Butler back, trade Dez, draft one in the mid rounds with great upside but less experience/name notoriety.
1st 3 picks should be..... DT, FS, LB in no particular order.
Butler is proven trash. I don't care if he makes a great play every 6 games, he's nothing more than big body.

True story?
While at Alabama Don Hutson ran both track and played baseball. (football) He played/ran where it made sense. Well there he is playing baseball on campus with a track meet also going on, so.....
He walks over to the track dressed in his baseball gear wins the 100 yards in a sizzlin' 9.8 then returms to the diamond to hit a homerun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hutson played vs white cornerbacks who couldn't break 10.8 in a 100, he is still the most dominating player ever at their position. He was on a whole other level.
Lets go ahead and hire Brandon Carr to coach the secondary and have Joseph Randle come in and run the team through conduct courses while we're at it :tu :tu
