Just heard on ESPNNews, that Kidd is ahead of schedule for recovery time for the surgery on his knee, and he is expected to be able to start the season on time.

Sounds like a ploy to erase the concerns that other teams have about his knee so a trade can be facilitated sooner than later. But at his age and with the amount left on his contract, any team would be crazy to trade for him without seeing him operate in a couple of dozen games.

they want a better back up just in case

sept 3 Bergen Record*(Scroll Down)*(registration required): "Veteran point guard Travis Best has reemerged as an insurance policy for Jason Kidd, who could be out until late November or early December following left knee surgery. Best may visit East Rutherford next week... The Nets have also discussed bringing in free agent power forward Marcus Fizer, who played under new assistant coach Bill Cartwright in Chicago. sorry not going to register for that story
