It's about ego for a lot of these guys including LMA. A lot of these guys feel getting selected for the ASG is validation for being one of the best players in the world. The ASG game is crap but believe me it means a lot for the players. It's part of the reason why a lot of guys don't want to play for the Spurs because they know their scoring will go down and thus hurt their chances to get into the ASG.

Especially a capstone to such an illustrious career where he gave up so much in terms of playing time in order to help the team. On a weaker team he would have been a starting star and probably awarded All Star recognitiion.
