While you and me could chill and not give a fuck about having to work or in many cases not even have a high school diploma, these DACA people have to meet crazy criterias to stay. Work, have at least a high school diploma and having to report to a government official like some kind of criminal who's out on parole.

USA Today ran an article yesterday saying the real number of dreamers is 3.6 million. That’s not including the children of those 3.6 million who are legal citizens. Illegal immigration has brought in millions and millions of people and upset our demographics. And every time the numbers get bigger, more people come, nothing is done and then we need a bigger amnesty before you know it. Might as well just have an unlimited immigration policy, as long as you’ve never killed anyone or belong to a terrorist organization just come on in. We could be the most populated country on earth bigger than China. Either declare us not a country but rather a giant Walmart where people come to work and spend or enforce the law. Your narrative is that illegals will simply tunnel. Ok, but they won't walk freely across and tunnels can be controlled more easily than thousands of miles of open range. Criminals can simply break your window but you still lock your door because a barrier is better than no barrier.

I don't think the wall will produce the intended outcome. If anything it will create a worse situation along the border where class dichotomy is falsely sustained by a divider. The people coming across, by and large, aren't bad people but there needs to be a legit way to document these folks. If I was born in Mexico I'd be walking to the US as well, so I don't blame them. The Mexican government is shitty, only US criminals sneak over to Mexico but legit people in desperation sneak into to the US. We just need to create a system where we can work with Mexico so they don't need to come here. I don't see that happening. Maybe we should conquer Mexico and call it Amazonia, let Jeff Bezos preside.

The wall just needs to have wind turbines all down it. That would mean it eventually pays for itself, creates jobs and makes a hell of a noise.

As it was Hillary won the popular vote by 2 points. That is excellent accuracy.

I agree though I would make employers face criminal charges for hiring illegals, and I would zero out the funding for the wall and instead allocate it for raids and for prosecuting people who make illegal hirings. I'd also get rid of the green card lottery, that shit is stupid, and make speaking English a requirement since we want immigrants to assimilate. The only exception I'd make on language is citizens who want to bring their parents over to take care of them. It might be unreasonable to expect a sixty year old to be able to learn a new language.

1. End to chain migration (which includes no parents of CURRENT daca recipients [only those signed up] who caused the problem)
2. End to diversity lottery - use merit-based criteria on each individual.
3. E-verify - heavy fines for employers who violate
4. System to track/follow up visa overstays
5. Border security - not necessarily a wall but stop them from coming in.

Same way we do with temporary workers for vacation season in the national parks, in hotels, and in restaurants in tourist areas. Funny story. About 20 years ago I had reason to be at Tyson in Seguin and had the opportunity to watch chicke s by the thousands being unloaded. They would arrive on 18 wheelers in these 4' x 4' x 1' wooden crates and go on a conveyor into this big box. The empty crates would come out of a conveyor on tbe side and tbe chickens would come out hanging by one foot on a conveyor that took them by a spinning wire that cut their throat and started the process to tbe grocery store. I puzzled and puzzled over how that damn machine hung those chickens up like that. Curiosity finally got the better of me and I walked over there. The box had a door and I opened it...and found about 20 mexican women chasing chickens around the room cussing them in spanish.

Funny trivia I just read. Mexicans may really pay for the wall. In the past, illegal immigrants could use their ITIN to claim the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit. The child credit especially was massively abused as they could work in the US and claim 30 kids in mexico if they wanted. This cost 24 billion over 10 years. The new tax law only allows these credits to people actually holding valid social security numbers. That savings is more than the wall will allegedly cost lol.

Common sense says that if that high a percentage of immigrants are on welfare for > 21 years, that the rest of them don't balance them out. There should be a sizable number who are struggling (just like the average American) but not on welfare and some (but probably a small percentage) are doing well.

Report: 94 Percent of Confirmed Non-Citizens in Federal Custody Unlawfully Present

Survey of federal prison population finds almost 60,000 known or suspected aliens

More than 35,000 individuals held in federal custody are unlawfully present in the United States, according to new data released Thursday by the Department of Homeland Security.

DHS counted some 58,766 known or suspected aliens in federal custody for the end of fiscal year 2017. Sixty-four percent of those individuals have been confirmed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be illegal aliens, while the remainder are still under investigation by ICE to determine their immigration status.

The total is divided among 39,455 people held in facilities administered by the federal Bureau of Prisons, as well as 19,311 people held in pretrial detention by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Among those whose status had been confirmed, 94 percent were determined to be unlawfully present. That includes a 92 percent unlawful rate among those in BOP custody, and a 97 percent rate among those in USMS custody.

This report, the third released this year, was released pursuant to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in January. That order instructed DHS and the Department of Justice to collaborate in collecting information about incarcerated immigrants, towards the end of enacting the president’s aggressive immigration reform agenda.

Immigrants make up 22 percent of the federal prison population, as compared against 13.5 percent of the overall population. However, much of this disparity may be attributable to the federal government's responsibility for policing immigration offenses specifically—as of 2016, 62.8 percent of non-citizens incarcerated at the federal level faced charges of illegal reentry, an immigration offense.

The new report does not provide information about the distribution of offenses among the confirmed or suspected illegal alien offender population. Senior administration officials indicated that that information would be available in future reports, and referred reporters to information from the United States Sentencing Commission, which they said suggested that non-citizens were more likely to be convicted of immigration, money laundering, and drug offenses, especially along the southern border.

In general, non-citizen immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than U.S. citizens, and are less likely to be incarcerated than citizens. It is unclear as to what explains this disparity, though explanations include the threat of deportation that immigrants may face if caught committing a crime, thus adding to their overall possible punishment as compared against citizens.

Even one crime committed by an unlawfully present individual is too many in Attorney General Jeff Sessions's opinion.

"The simple fact is that any offense committed by a criminal alien is ultimately preventable. One victim is too many," Sessions said. "It's time for Congress to enact the President's immigration reform agenda so that we start welcoming the best and brightest while turning away drug dealers, gang members, and other criminals."

Also absent from the report is any information about incarceration of known or suspected aliens in state or local custody. These jails and prisons account for more than 90 percent of America's overall incarceration, meaning that the lack of state-level data leaves a conspicuous hole in the overall information in the report.

"DHS and DOJ are working to develop a reliable methodology for estimating the status of state and local incarcerated populations in future reports," the report noted.

Recently appointed Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen nonetheless saw the report as evidence of the need for more work by her department.

"While the administration is working diligently to remove dangerous criminal aliens from our streets, this report highlights the fact that more must be done," Nielsen said. "We will continue to pursue President Trump's immigration priorities, including securing the border, enhancing interior enforcement, and pursuing a merit-based immigration system, but Congress must act immediately to adopt obvious solutions to strengthen DHS and DOJ efforts to confront dangerous criminal aliens."

Such policy solutions include an end to chain migration and the implementation of a merit-based system like the one proposed by Sens. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) and David Perdue (R., Ga.) in the RAISE Act, a bill the Trump administration backs.

Trump however has made clear funding for the wall is an absolute must in any deal along with his two other immigration priorities.

oh we got stopped not far into mexico, near monterrey, and the "cops" said we were speeding and threatened to take our license plates and jail us if we didn't pay $800. we paid $20 and went on our way. lol thank god my buddy who was with me was puro mexicano and talked our way out of that bs. the dude in front of us who got pulled over too didn't have luck like us and they already had his plates(texas too) off his car.

Back before Nafta a frien of mine was a smuggler that smuggled high end electronics into mexico. Had a fleet of DC 3's. There was a big dog that controlled the Brownsville sector of the border. The anti-smuggler mexican aero-cops bought their jobs from him and then got to keep what they caught. The rule though was they had to patrol every night only where he told them to. My buddy paid this guy a bunch (probably 50k in todays dollars in cash every month) to call him every day and tell him where the "holes" were. It was a great gig for that guy. The mexican aerocops paid him a lot of money to work their asses off trying to catch the gringos that didnt pay him for safe passage.

We are all better educated on the subject - that's a good thing.
