Tom Laundry didn't perfect the shotgun.
History[edit (http://www.spurstalk.com/w/index.php?title=Shotgun_formation&action=edit§ion=1)]
The shotgun evolved from the single wing (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Single_wing) and the similar double-wing spread; famed triple threat man (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Triple_threat_man) Sammy Baugh (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Sammy_Baugh) has claimed that the shotgun was effectively the same as the version of the double-wing he ran at Texas Christian University (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/TCU_Horned_Frogs_football) in the 1930s.[2] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-2)
In the latter part of the 1940s, the Philadelphia Eagles, under Hall of Fame Coach Earl "Greasy" Neale, implemented the shotgun formation in their offensive attack with quarterback Tommy Thompson.
The formation was named by the man who actually devised it, San Francisco 49ers (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/San_Francisco_49ers) coach Red Hickey (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Red_Hickey), in 1960.[3] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-3) John Brodie (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/John_Brodie) was the first NFL shotgun quarterback, beating out former starter Y. A. Tittle (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Y._A._Tittle) largely because he was mobile enough to effectively run the formation.
The New York Jets (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/New_York_Jets) briefly experimented with the shotgun during the middle of the Joe Namath (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Joe_Namath) era to give the bad-kneed and often immobile quarterback more time to set up plays by placing him deeper in the backfield.
But the formation was not used on a regular basis until the 1975 season, and then only by the Dallas Cowboys (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Dallas_Cowboys), who used the shotgun frequently with Roger Staubach (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Roger_Staubach) at quarterback. The Cowboy shotgun differed from the 49er shotgun as Staubach generally had a back next to him in the backfield (making runs possible), where Brodie was normally alone in the backfield.
Since no other NFL teams used the formation during this time, some believed it had been invented by Tom Landry (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Tom_Landry). Instead, Landry simply dusted off the old innovation to address a pressing problem: keeping Staubach protected while an unusually young and inexperienced squad (12 rookies made the 1975 Cowboys roster) jelled. However, three years before Staubach ushered in the modern era of the shotgun to the NFL, Joe Theismann (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Joe_Theismann) of the Toronto Argonauts (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Toronto_Argonauts) regularly employed the formation north of the border in the CFL. [4] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-4) The Cowboys ended up in the Super Bowl that season, in no small part due to its new use of the old formation. The shotgun became a "signature" formation for the Cowboys, especially during third down situations.

This really does amaze me, do you honestly believe there is anyone who doesn't get what acceleration means? Really? REALLY?
Dude...
Reaction to the gun/strart.....now what happens, yep.....acccerate....UNTIL...a sprinter reaches his topend/max velocity.....then its sustain/maintain....then decellerate.
Pay attention....
Those able to maintain/sustain a higher % of their MV longer (meaning they dellcerate at a slower pace) are the ones who wins the races. Ok?
World clas sprinters reach MV at around 60/70m, then it's all about speed endurance.....ok? That is why 100/200m sprinters train at 300m, that SPEED ENDURANCE is the most important aspect of a 100/200m sprinters game. Yes, not so in a 40/60. There it's just start/accelerate.

Which lane requires the most intense force, which direction must the runner direct the force, and what is the force from say lane 4 for an average size sprinter? Give us the answers for the 200m and the 400m sprints.

Dear members of this fine board:
What we have in Avante is a memorizer-regurgitator.
This stuff he has been asked is present on the internet but it requires reading for application.
The easiest way to find a fake is pull him out of his comfort zone and ask for real application. Elite track coaches know this stuff and it's trivial for them. They take on much more difficult problems with many more variables. I am giving our resident expert "vegetable" the most straightforward track questions involving sprints with turns and we got complete panic.
Then, to attempt a try, Avante chooses a site referring to Centrifugal force which is a fictitious force. It does not exist. (except in the most radical frame of reference problems that are in no way used for something so simple. And if it is used the author will explain exactly how he is using it to be clear)
We got a total fake.

Dude, I'm not the one who actually believes some middle school kid is capable of a 20.00 200m, this is you. So as long as you think that ya might as well shut up about sprinting, because ya don't know shit about it.
And, you can't talk sprinters or anything anyone actually cares about, the reason being ya know nothing about the sport. You prove that by believing some kid can run faster than world class sprinters.

Which lane requires the most intense force, which direction must the runner direct the force, and what is the force from say lane 4 for an average size sprinter? Give us the answers for the 200m and the 400m sprints.
Thanks.
You can use the average speed for an elite athlete in both races to make it easy for you.
You don't know shit besides regurgitating lists. You don't know stuff I learned in HS track.
You are a fake, and a large buffo toad.
Look it up and read about it and apply what you learned. You got a guy who graduated law school spending time study for exams who does not even care that much about track shaming you? Do I need to again post what you said about your track expertise?
Yep I do. Go to top.
So ya can't talk how some kid can run a 20.00, so you were just lying, ok got it.

My knowledge comes from my interest in the things I talk about. Who doesn;'t bone up on what they care about? still subscribe to Track & Field News (since 66). I can answer questions NOBODY...comes remotely close to answering them. First off nobody will ever take the time needed, second off I'd ask in a way that you'd just have to know like I do.

Jeopardy for SF Niners fans.

2.This Niner blocked a FG standing under the crossbar?
3.This Niner is the brother of an Olympic gold medalist?
4.This Niner won an Olympic gold medal and a SB?
5.What Niner was known as "Skeets"?
Avante

Ok, let the only real expert here answer the questions.
1 "Famous" Amos Lawrence a RB out of North Carolina.
2.Idaho basketballer/footballer R.C.Owens a WR.
3.Jim Johnson, (good trackster at UCLA) his brother the great decathlete Rafer Johnson (they grew up next door to a relative of mind in Kingsburg)
4.Bob Hayes....yep, at the end of his carer a Niner.
5.The great Maryland hurdler Renaldo Nehemiah.
I'd ask more but nobody would get any of them so...............

Right here in my hands I'm holding ...
THE OFFICIAL N F L ENCYCLOPEDIA
....545 pages starting with day one. Everything a guy could want to know up to 1986 when the book was written. I have read the book, twice.
Now add the fact I started following pro football in the late 50's. Yep, Ive seen George Reed CFL fame play, saw Jim Brown at Syracuse, saw Paul Lowe run the hurdles at Oregon State, saw O.J. in person run a 4x1 leg on that SFCC team, saw Roger the Dodger at Navy, saw all white SWC/SEC teams play.
In 1920 the Akron Pros went 8-0-3 with a black head coach Fritz Pollard. They were the only undefeated team. Then there was the Muncie Flyers at 0-1-0, then.....see ya~~~
I get we have a lot of....history sucks...types here, but let me tell ya you are really missing out, the history of this great game is totally interesting and what seperates Avante from all of you.
You wouldn't believe some of these team names.
Kardex...my fav The Tonawanda Kardex, gotta loved it.
Crimson Giants
Heralds
Jeffersons
Panhandlers...ha~~~
All Americans
Triangles
Independants
Celts
Brecke
Marines
yep, Green Bay Packers since 1921, New York Giants 1921, Chicago Bears 1921.
So when I say I can beat anyone in NFL/AFL trivia, dead serious. Not as up on the CFL as some might be.
No player in NFL history ever dominated his position TOTALLY like the great Don Hutson. His numbers completely dwarf what receivers were doing in his era. And, he kicked and played defense.

Let's see....
1. This cat played QB in college, as a pro he was switched to RB, had over 1000 yards as a rookie. Who?
2. What star Dallas Cowboy was a blocking back for Mercury Morris in college?
3. Only NFL 1000 yard rusher out of Furman?
4. First HBCU RB to have a 1000 yard NFL season?
5. Last HBCU RB to have a 1000 yard NFL season?
Good luck.

You basically have no real idea as to why it’s easier to run a straight 200m compared to a track 200 m that involves a turn. You have no clue what acceleration even means.
This, we know.
You are a fake.

Which is absolutely absurd. And you know it.
That’s what I have on your football knowledge.
