I think he is injured all right. And I have no idea how well the injury has healed. The conspiracy is simply that our spineless "sports journalists" are so cowed by Pop that they apparently don't even address the issues (whatever they are) directly with Kawhi. They are co-conspirators with the Spurs organization in a real conspiracy of silence.

I do think that the entire organization is struggling to find its post-Duncan identity. I believe that PATFO saw some superficial similarities between Timmy and LMA, and through rose-colored glasses, thought that they would have a kind of Timmy Jr. in LMA when Tim retired. Pop tried to re-make LMA's game to approximate Tim's within the framework of the Spurs' offense. But they discovered that LMA didn't have the same skill set or willingness to adapt to benefit the team. I suspect that has caused some issues with some teammates as well as with Pop, which finally came to a head. LMA is a beta who wants to be an alpha, and the Spurs are adapting more to him and his game. I think Kawhi may have some resentment building up. (In fact at the time of LMA's signing I wondered how Kawhi felt at becoming the second highest paid Spur behind a brand new FA signee.) I don't remember the last time that I heard Pop (or anybody else) refer to the Spurs as Kawhi's team or to Kawhi as the leader or face of the franchise. Kawhi is on the sideline while people are praising a pseudo-star who consistently disappears or outright fails at crunch time "leading" HIS team through a season in which Kawhi was a pre-season MVP candidate poised to lead the Spurs back to the championship to avenge the loss last season when they were Zaza'd out of a legitimate shot. If I were he I would harbor some resentment over all of this, wouldn't you?

That's not necessarily to suggest that Kawhi is completely at odds with Pop or the Spurs, but I do suspect that PATFO might be a kind of lightning rod for all the turmoil going on inside him. I know that Kawhi could have thrived in an offense in which LMA did adapt his game to be more like Tim's. Kawhi has seen several styles of Spurs basketball, and he has grown through them all. But there is a definite, unavoidable on-court conflict when one guy needs to feel like he is the go-to guy but another guy is the real-deal go-to guy. Who gets "touches" in crunch time and who should?

I'm starting to believe Chinook's conspiracy theory of there being turmoil somewhere in the organization. Shit seems weird this year.

This conspiracy theory ranks right up there with the Belluminati.
