Player A Dwane Wade gets traded to the Heat for a 2nd round pick.

Yet on all the player-for-player trades, the $ amounts have to match.

I tried looking it up.

Isn't Wade on a minimum deal? I guess you can trade minimum contracts without getting salary back.

This is correct. Plus MIA. Has a DPE (Disabled Player Exception) from Waiters as well.

So how about when a player is above minimum?

Example Fatty Mills. Ok no one wants him, that is not the question.
Q is, with his 10 Xs 5 salary, can he be traded for draft picks? Like 500 of them?

Depends. If the team has enough room below the salary cap to absorb Mills contract size for the year he’s in (the length of the contract does not matter, only the year they are in) then yes.

In 2k18 the Bulls offered me Portis and RoLo for Mills and Joff. I took that deal so fast. :lol
