I'm surprised Sports Illustrated is still around. They know less about sports than the writers at Good Housekeeping. How can they put Caden Stern at 63? The guy was a Thorpe finalist as a true freshmen. I thought it was possibly written by Leon Oneal, but Leon would have put himself #1.

seems to be on par with those who rank high school players. sterns should have been a five star since his junior year at steele, for that matter.

I like to laugh at the Ags as much as the next guy and they’re certainly as queer and cultish as there is in college football.
But they have the best WR, DB, and arguably the best QB in the state committed. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Evans wind up there.
Its gonna continue to be a war every year.
as expected, kourt williams committed to ohio state today. ags had been in his final five, but his choice today was no surprise.

Really hope they are able to pull in Noah Sewell. Prob my #1 target left for us. Might make or break our LB recruiting this cycle. Crazy how little LB talent their is throughout the state/country these days. 7 on 7 has really hurt the position.

going to be hard to take him away from Oregon but he'd be a huge get if it somehow happened. couldn't agree more on the state of LBs regarding the impact of the 7 v 7. it's clearly the biggest need for a&m on the defensive side of the ball.
looks like a&m, following the lead of texas, went international with a late 2019 commitment in Nik Constantinou, a former aussie rules football star. he should be the successor to braden mann.

LSU has been a thorn in the aggies side when it comes to north shore so it was nice to finally steal a recruit away from them.

If I remember right, the last player Texas got from North Shore was Cory Redding.

he was quite a football player.
corbin one of the early stand outs in a so far, not too impressive camp:

Dontae Manning/xavion alford/eaton Fong'd to A&M as well.
i've always felt pretty good about eaton but am a little surprised about alford trending towards the ags.

When it comes to EJ Smith, we know money and travel are not an issue. I think Georgia is off the table. Stanford stands out a lot, if has the brain I think they are a very strong contender. Florida obviously because of his dad. A&M due to proximity. Best guess right now would be: Stanford, A&M and Florida. I don't think tOSU or Georgia bring much to the table.

No way Jaylon Jones is a 5'star this is nothing but the MMC trying to give aggy a bump so they're ahead of Texas. Same with Hayes King, how does he get a bump when they haven't even played their senior year???

I'm not missing anything. Would you trade classes with them?? HELL NO! We have a far superior OL/DL class if you can't see that then IDK what to tell you. That OL class is a bunch of over weight Guards. You keep being you though.

Yes they have 3 awesome players committed. Beyond those 3 players, there isn't much to write home about. Texas got the QB they wanted and then they got another QB they wanted. This isn't a case of we lost out to them. Texas has 1 5'star and he happens to be at the biggest position of need. Texas is 3 for 3 on the Dline that you said Texas would wiff on. Texas has hands down the better offensive line class. Texas has hands down the better defense class.
Blair you are a terrible troll, no one believes for one second you are a longhorn fan. I'd probably respect you a tiny bit if you came out with who your real team is and stopped trolling.
i will say one thing about the ratings. while i love jones, i can say that his eye test has been inconsistent. when sterns came on as a transfer to steele in his sophomore season, one knew right away this kid was special. i kept wondering why sterns wasn't getting higher ratings because. week after week, he was just the best player on the field. jones had a great sophomore year (stern's senior year) but was somewhat disappointing last season and not worthy of five stars. i get that he was great at the opening and that coach saenz at steele leaves a lot to be desired as a head coach but i really need to see more from jones this season to be convinced that he is a real five-star player.
as a follow up to cupp's injury, fisher did not speak of it as a career ending one and fully expects him to be back and fully healed by next season.

Did they say what part of the leg got broke? from what I was understanding it was his lower leg, if so then it's a much easier heal than the thigh bone. The femur is a long healing process.

this is what i read earlier today:
"Baylor will be out for a while," Fisher said. "He had surgery today. He had a plate put on his ankle and tibia on the lower part of his leg, so he'll be out for a little while. He just got rolled up on. That was the only major injury we had in the scrimmage."
When pressed for a timetable, Fisher declined to give one, saying he is not a doctor. However, from talking to sources, it would be very surprising if Cupp were back this season.

If it's only the Tibia then he should make a full recovery. It's going to be a hard rehab. Any of you remember when Kevin Murray had his leg folded in half? Almost sounds like the same thing. When i was playing football my junior and senior year I had a newspaper clipping of Kevin Murray laying on the ground with his ankle folded over, it was my reminder to get my ankles taped.

i'll be checking out Jones in action, this weekend, against O'Connor.
Steele's Jaylon Jones looked every bit the five star last night, the way Sterns once did. He was dominant in the secondary and big on the offensive side of the ball, especially with star WR Jackson out for the game.

Serious question. What threat are you talking about? Other than Jaylon Jones and Demas who in that class would you want and think they strait up beat us for? A&m will always get a few guys we want every year, that wont change. We are going to sweep the top 3 DL in the state, which you were all doom and gloom back in the spring saying we weren't going to get any of them.
They absolutely wanted Jaylen Garth, Alford, Eaton as well.
We have already got several 2021 kids they wanted.

yeah, the last thing you want to do is give bulletin board material to the best team in the country that is playing before their home crowd.
starting RB, jashaun corbin is out for the remainder of the season with an undisclosed hamstring injury. true freshman isaiah spiller will take over as the starter. ags will be very thin at RB going forward.

I wonder what it’s like to be thin at Rb?
i think texas will be able to get away with it more in the big XII and with herman's offense. much of jimbo's offense is predicated on establishing the run. that will be difficult to do going forward (on top of the injuries, their O line was already struggling in creating gaps).

the msu game was a nice sample of the youth on the current aggies squad as several true freshman really stood out. leal, spiller, wydermyer, green, richardson and anias smith all had solid games. a lot of the sophomores were also really solid.

Glad we were able to hold onto everyone today. Chris Morris, Fadil Diggs, and Donell Harris all received furious runs from other institutions late but Jimbo was able to hold.
3 scholarships left including possible transfers. Possibilities include:
Zach Evans RB
McKinnley Jackson DT
Sedrick Van Pran OT
Edgerrin Cooper LB
Javonne Sheppard OT (transfer)
Rounding the class out with any of those three would make for a great cycle.

we will likely lose a QB but not sure if that would be this season. it all depends on how the depth chart plays out in the fall. also, i agree, this roster is shaping out to be more about the underclassmen, especially since quite a few true and redshirt freshmen played so well this past season.

he is starting to remind me of speedy noll, another five-star, who played sparingly for a&m due to numerous off-field issues. no doubt, a high-risk, high-reward scenario. considering the lack of depth at the RB position, i would venture to guess that jimbo will at least take a shot at the kid, unless he has knowledge of other issues that have not been made public.

Can you really be big brother when you haven't won a conference title since 1998? The Ags have taken a step forward, but they are no closer to being the big brother than Texas is of regaining their elite status. If/when they can overcome Alabama they can start calling themselves big brother. Texas and A&M don't play each other and neither have won jack since Texas won their conference in 2009, both have still proven to be the retarded step children of their respective conferences.

Pure political move, however if it was Texas sitting at #5, they would have gotten in. Still it wasn't right. However as was pointed out on another site no team that has made the playoffs has ever had a loss on their resume like the one Ags had to Bama.
in the end, A&M is a tier 2 team, along with the Irish and the Sooners but ND is the NCAA's darling to there was no way they weren't going to get in. their legions will probably switch to watching highlights of their glory days once Bama is up by 4 TDs by halftime. it's been a screwed up season all the way around but the likelihood that clemson and bama meet up again in the title game is at least what probably would have happened had this been a normal season.

Anyhow, Ohio State getting in with just 6 games is the only thing that doesn't sit well with me. They have only played two teams who are competitive (Indiana and Northwestern) and looked like crap in both outings. They are in just because they are Ohio State and honestly they should have an incomplete grade with only 6 games played.
A&M should have been in but you could make a case for everybody so its not some huge travesty. However, what we have learned and what I do realize more and more every year is that the playoff just needs to be expanded already. You see Dabo lobbying for this daily even though the current format is more beneficial to him. There's always going to be an argument with someone being left out, but if some of these non power 5 schools like Cincinatti can run the table and still not even got a shot it just all makes it feel futile... like what is the point?

I wouldn't say that but the SEC cannibalizing on themselves all season with no out of conference games definitely made it seem that way. For example, if Auburn was able to play some non-conference games they would all of a sudden be a 8 or 9 win team and be ranked inside the top 15-20 making that win seem a lot "better". You'd think the committee would understand this but they weren't interested in doing anything other than putting the big names in and getting the least amount of push back.

I would again get creative on the skimpy side.
I would give byes If I had an 8 team bracket to fit in the proper smaller number of teams before I ever had all 8 filled.
If you play in a tough conference dont worry about getting left out, just win your bowl game and that no loss MAC team will get killed in the playoff first round and you end up ranked ahead of them.
And if you had an 8 team bracket Alabama would be in every year even with 2-3 losses.
And if one year we had 2 teams clearly the best, I would play one game.
*My wishes will never happen of course, too much $ to be made with more games.
This is how the NCAA basketball tourney become a joke with everyone screaming for that 2-15 seed upset. Its only fun because its a giant mess lending itself to office betting. The NCAA BB regular season is so boring. Football, the games count so much more. From beginning to end of season you have to be on. If you go to 8 teams, I would never allow a two loss team in the bracket.
Achhh... Itll end up at 16 before I wake tomorrow.

Oh well. I have a feeling this kid would rather pursue a career in baseball anyway. Still the filthiest D-line recruiting haul in A&M history this year. We got some dogs on the d-line.. and o-line for that matter. Love to see it.

I agree I hope we can land Harold Perkins, but LB recruiting is kinda a thing of the past in today's game. With all the spread and 4-2-5 base defenses you really only need 2 or 3 or 4 guys that can play at that position compared to 7-8-9 rotational guys on the lines and in the defensive backfield. I think well see a few of the young linebackers make a name for themselves this year in White, Russell, and Cooper.
4-star 2022 Bridgeland dual-threat QB Connor Weigman committed to A&M; he also plans to play baseball.

Yes I’ve read that Ewers and Maalik Murphy are at the top of his list. I could potentially see Ewers flipping back if Texas puts together a good season but it probably hinges on that.

When Chris Simms flipped from Tennessee to Texas it happened after Ricky won the Heisman and met with several recruits at an ESPN function. Chris got a bit star struck and flipped. That would be about the only thing that might convince Ewers to flip back, there is no way Texas is going to make the playoffs or challenge Ohio State, Bama, ore even Oklahoma next season.

I would not be surprised if A&M sneaks into the playoff in the next few years. They are now in the final cut for the top two dlinemen in the country and Weigman is going off. 7 tds and counting at halftime on ESPNU.
weigman has all the makings of a star so that was some good news to temper the rather disappointing news regarding the arrest and consequent suspension of michael clemens this past week. that makes two defensive lineman that have been arrested and suspended this month (mckinnley jackson being the other).

if ever i thought that the Ags were going to beat Bama this season (which i really wasn't after seeing the o-line struggles so far), such enthusiasm would have been weakened by the news regarding King. Calzada does not have the escapability that king has and he'll need it against bama and most of the SEC. a big blow for king though. if calzada plays decent enough, king will struggle to get back and even if king can make it back to play in some games (i'm suspect of that), he'll have lost valuable experience. and then he'll have to compete with weigman who will be enrolling in the spring and is having a hell of a senior season already. a really bad break, literally.
now that aggie fans have seen how overhyped this current squad is, maybe they can focus on the big picture-continuing to shore up o-line depth and building on the LB corps and the secondary (biggest needs). here's the most updated tracking:

Nice win. Calzada finally showed some poise but it helped that his coaches moved the best OL (Greene) to the guard spot and had Calzada roll out of the pocket. On defense, they used a lot more blitz packages. Hope this win builds some momentum. And it was a nice win for some key recruits to have seen in person.

In ATM he actually will have a QB, who has an offensive line, that will give him time to get open.
ATMs offensive and defensive line were very good against Auburn I thought.
ATm is playing very solid football so that Jimbos vanilla play calling is working fine.
And ATMs pro to be tight end has actually dropped some passes so they can get through mistakes made by their stars.

Fisher needs to step down as OC.
They have a very solid team in place. Fisher help put it together. Just step aside with the QBs.
You absolutely have to make first downs against a team like Miss, especially in the 1st half. Miss could have scored a lot more than 15 pts in that first half, ATM was perfectly in the game, and Fisher and those calls. This offense has the capability to be more than vanilla.
Teams like ole miss and miss st. can play big 12 on you and win some games. Saban finally figured this out and got the hell away from the offense.

yeah, his offense is painfully reminiscent of r.c. slocum's offenses. great use of running game and tight ends but a hesistancy to go vertical or get the ball in his playmaker's hands. i can only imagine what a kiffen would do with the likes of ainias smith, demas, or achane. it's frustrating as hell having to see a team go three and out so many times while the defense is doing its best to keep the team in the game. this was the third time this year that fisher was outcoached.
