Kings: Garcia the leading candidate to backup Peja

Kings rookie forward Francisco Garcia, just seven months removed from the trip to the NCAA Final Four with Louisville, is making a push for the backup small forward role in Sacramento. "With Garca, it's just a matter of how quickly his learning curve comes," coach Rick Adelman told the Sacramento Bee. "He's not real disciplined defensively, which is not real unusual for rookies. He turns his head too much, he loses his man too much. But those are things he should get better at, because he's willing to work."

Garcia has played high-energy basketball every time he's taken the court and that has definitely made an impression on Adelman. The rookie has Louisville coach Rick Pitino to thank for getting him as prepared as possible to make the jump to the next level. He's not more than a late round flier pick, but if the Kings starters are sidelined by injuries this season, his game could become more prominent.
