I’d agree that in the NBA, it really is a crapshoot past a certain pick, but if you’re a shitty team with no superstar level talent then having a better chance at a top 3 pick makes a huge difference.

And tanking just slightly increases the chance of having an opportunity to make that possible difference. I'm just saying it's quite a reach, not an instant solution. Tanking doesn't usually lead to turning a franchise around. A franchise-changing player like Duncan or Lebron only comes around once or twice a generation.
