Seems ridiculous to have a tournament for 2 irrelevant positions in the playoffs. This will make those positions even more irrelevant. Instead of getting the team that played the best over an entire season you get the random winner of one game.

If they changing the playoff format going top 16, may as well go all out. They could go 7 West vs 10 East , 8 West vs 9 East and vice versa. Best out of 3 in five days. Game 1 of playoffs start on day 8, allowing a full week of rest for all top 6 teams in each conference.

I've always thought they should do this for the lottery teams, have a second quick tournament.

Winner and 2nd place get lottery balls, 30 team A, 20 team B for top two picks. The rest get slotted and pick by regular season records from best buy or worst.

Maybe some sort of format like this. I think it'll help eliminate tanking.
