That would make sense if AAA was paying out millions to politicians to have them get rid of seat belts in cars.

Regardless what they do as an organization, it still doesn't equate to gun owners.

Still

AAA

Driving is a reality in this country, and all auto clubs support the use and enjoyment of vehicle ownership. But, we think it is rather "interesting" that AAA:

Has denied that automobiles cause air pollution...
(Source: AAA: Automobiles not Responsible for Pollution: Cleaning the Air Study 1999)

As reported by the Environmental News Service in September, 1999: "'Federal regulators should refocus efforts to cut air pollution away from automobiles,' the motorists' advocacy group AAA said today." Clearing the Air - 1999, is the third such study performed by AAA.

Has, without informing their members of their policy efforts, weighed in on highway funding, suburban sprawl, mass transit, car design and safety, air pollution, and global warming.

(Source: The Amicus Journal: Winter 2001: Feature Story: The Secret Life of AAA)

Because, using its members as collateral, AAA, its local affiliates, and its partners work to influence national law and policy, and not to the good of the planet. Almost without exception, critics say, it advocates policies that damage the environment and endanger health.

"A lot of people belong to AAA because they think it's a nice place to get Triptiks and traveler's checks," says Daniel Becker, director of Sierra Club's global warming and energy program. "What they don't know is that AAA is a lobbyist for more roads, more pollution, and more gas guzzling."

Has been challenged by Environmentalists on many of their claims and conclusions.
Daniel Becker, director of the Sierra Club's global warming and energy program said in a statement: "It sounds like AAA has been breathing too much smog. A third of the nation's smog and 20 percent of the nation's global warming pollution spew out of America's tailpipes. With asthmatic children being hospitalized at an ever increasing rate, it is foolhardy and callous for AAA to imply that now is the time to let up on auto pollution."

The EPA did not challenge AAA's numbers, but a spokesman for the agency said the group's conclusions may be "shortsighted." The agency is committed to reducing emissions from all sources, according to EPA spokesman Dave Cohen. "This is not a contest," Cohen said. "Letting motor vehicles off the hook for their past performance is not a useful way of combating air pollution."

Actively Opposes Bicycle Lanes and fought against bicycle safety regulations for years...

So yeah, they sound very similar.

Gun nuts sure get pissed when people mistake clip for magazine, automatic for semiautomatic, etc... but love to put the "ban" word in people's mouths when it was never said.
Legislation either allows or bans.

Example: Magazine capacity regulation = ban on the manufacture of high capacity magazines (but not the sale of existing ones)

The same happens with censorship. When someone's words are muted, they say that free speech is banned.

Also, terminology matters when writers decide to focus on technical aspects of a device. Otherwise I can say the gun wasn't loaded when what I mean is that there wasn't a round chambered. Two technical terms, but unloaded would mean it doesn't have ammo in the gun at all.

Again, people get bogged down by facts but they still get bent out of shape by the misconception surrounding these facts.

And the term "gun nuts" is being applied to anyone who owns a firearm it seems. It's just a convenient way to stay ignorant. It's like saying "basketball nuts" because you know the difference between a travel and a 3 second violation.

The NRA Placed Big Bets on the 2016 Election, and Won Almost All of Them
The National Rifle Association took a historic gamble in 2016, and it paid off in a huge way.

The NRA’s big night came as a tidal wave of white voters without college degrees voted overwhelmingly for Trump, leading to one of the biggest election-night upsets in memory.

But the NRA’s investment, which was more than any other outside group, paid for a slew of ads that directly targeted the same voters who propelled Trump to victory. The organization’s radio and television spots sought to cast Hillary Clinton and the Democratic rivals of its preferred Senate candidates as an existential threat to the Second Amendment, and national security. It is a message that resonates in the gun belt, a swath of primarily Southern and Midwestern states where Trump achieved some of his most consequential victories.

Georgia state legislators on Thursday struck down what would have been a lucrative tax exemption for hometown carrier Delta Air Lines (DAL.N (https://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/overview?symbol=DAL.N)),

after vowing to punish the airline for ending its relationship with the National Rifle Association.

Hello Virginia? I think the NRA and Delta probably think things thru more than the Georgia legislature...

And this is a part of why I incessantly ask people on this board what they read. I have found that sites like WSJ, NY Times, WaPo, NPR, some right leaning, more left leaning sites, take time to more thoroughly examine the players and the game. And I want the board to post sites, but get none or crackpot sites. The immediate tendency is just to crack off with one's partisan take while the sites above have access to the actual players and delve into an extremely important motive $, and resulting calculated political moves. Instead we have posters going with extremely low probability conspiracy theory Twitter feeds because it feeds some fantasy.

I have never understood the above. And in a day, this might be gone from headlines, but some of the major information gathering papers will have more facts and more analysis. The whole "showdown" will be dead to the people who want to listen to the talking heads. And then some posters have the gall to put up pictures of sheep etc... The absolute blantant contradictions fly right by their heads. I guess it's easy to watch the TV. But then you get some exploring the deep reaches of 4chan to break something on their own... Just say you want nothing to do with any source that is more likely to deal with accurate Intel. I guess it's just a misunderstanding of what probability even means. Paranoia rules. False flag that first, you win.

Not immediately, no way.

The point still stands. Who is more likely to overreact immediately. Delta does this as a purely moral stand? Possibly. Calculated business decision... We will see. We will see this will be long gone in 2 years. No one will assess the damage to Delta, Atlanta, and or the NRA if any, it's too past. Delta could quietly call uncle later and it won't be headlines and they take a tiny loss for the possibility of a gain of filling seats with full payers? I don't know.

"The National Rifle Association has accepted contributions from about 23 Russians, or Americans living in Russia, since 2015, the gun rights group acknowledged to Congress.

The NRA said in a letter to Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., unveiled on Wednesday, that the sum it received from those people was just over $2,500 and most of that was "routine payments" for membership dues or magazine subscriptions.

About $525 of that figure was from "two individuals who made contributions to the NRA."

Think about it. This massive organization with an annual operating budget of $250 Million, whose rally boasted the President and Vice President of the United States, has decided that if you, a small business owner, voice support of "reasonable and effective gun regulations" in a way they disagree with, they will try to put you out of business for doing so.

It's pretty unbelievable that people still think these are the good guys.

“This is very strong evidence, if not proof, of illegal coordination,” said Larry Noble, a former general counsel for the Federal Election Commission. “This is the heat of the general election, and the same person is acting as an agent for the NRA and the Trump campaign.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a situation where illegal coordination seems more obvious,” said Ann Ravel, a former chair of the FEC who reviewed the records. “It is so blatant that it doesn’t even seem sloppy. You Can’t Understand The Brutal Reality Of Gun Violence Until You Hear It From Doctors

The NRA tried to push doctors out of the gun debate. They responded with raw accounts from the front lines of the crisis.

Teams were in the middle of changing shifts when a 6-year-old came to a Texas county hospital ER with massive gunshot wounds to her shoulder and chest. Her mother had been fatally shot by her boyfriend. When the girl tried to call 911, the man turned his shotgun on her.

After hours of surgery, Brandt saved the child. Since then, Brandt, now a pediatric surgeon at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, has operated on many more child shooting victims.

“All of us have some patients who we can’t forget,” Brandt said of the young girl. “In terms of being able to not be sad about it, it took months and months. I’m still probably a little sad about it.”

In November after the American College of Physicians issued new guidelines (http://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2709820/reducing-firearm-injuries-deaths-united-states-position-paper-from-american) on how doctors can help protect patients from gun violence ―

and the National Rifle Association responded by telling physicians to “stay in your lane (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/nra-tweet-anti-gun-doctors-stay-in-your-lane_us_5be4ba32e4b0769d24cb1cef).”
the NRA wanted these doctors to shut up

about an issue that touches their lives daily, leading to a record high of nearly 40,000 deaths (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/us-gun-violence-deaths-2017_us_5c0fc9a4e4b0edf5a3a90308?0g) in 2017

NRA retort was enough to lead many physicians to break their silence.

Under the banner of “This is our lane,” (https://twitter.com/hashtag/ThisIsOurLane?src=hash&lang=en) surgeons and other doctors thrust themselves into the gun debate,

sharing photos from inside operating rooms and telling stories about the agony of treating an unending flow of shooting victims.

(https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/doctors-gun-violence-this-is-our-lane_us_5c1c1203e4b08aaf7a86a67b?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=__TheMorningEmail__122718&utm_content=__TheMorningEmail__122718+CID_3146dc41 00577bcfb2f5732ec4d2db0b&utm_source=Email%20marketing%20software&utm_term=HuffPost&ncid=newsltushpmgnews__TheMorningEmail__122718) painting a diverse portrait of a problem that afflicts communities in a variety of forms, including mass shootings, assaults, accidents, intimate partner violence and suicide.

Their accounts describe exhausting work that doctors have traditionally shouldered in private. Many doctors told HuffPost they feel it’s their moral duty to show the public the truth:

Gun violence is ubiquitous in emergency rooms all over the country.

Many of the gunshot victims that come into the hospital have been shot before.

more illegal coordination:

he National Rifle Association appears to have illegally coordinated its political advertising with Republican candidates in at least three recent high-profile Senate races, according to Federal Communications Commission records. In Senate races in Missouri and Montana in 2018, and North Carolina in 2016, the gun group’s advertising blitzes on behalf of GOP candidates Josh Hawley, Matt Rosendale, and Richard Burr were authorized by the very same media consultancy that the candidates themselves used — an apparent violation of laws designed to prevent independent groups from synchronizing their efforts with political campaigns.https://www.thetrace.org/2019/01/nra-coordinated-ad-efforts-with-gop-senate-campaigns/
