I made a site for game grades and I wanted to see if you guys like it. Get your feedback to make some changes. Hopefully it can get some use at the end of this year and I can make improvements in the off-season so it's better next year. Or get told it's shit and stop investing my time in it tbh.

Front page:

If any of you guys want me to delete your work from the site just let me know.

You'll only be able to look at the front page and the grade examples without an account. If you log in you'll see a page to create your grades and an archive of your work.

Create page:

Starts with a title(e.g. (Spurs) vs. Lakers-parenthesis around the team you grade). Then you select a team which will populate the drop downs with every player on said team, plus the coach, general thoughts, and game thoughts. Next to every player is a drop down for grades from A+ to F(for Mills), INC, or dashes if you don't want a grade. It's preset with 15 player grade sections(I can add more if needed). If you want the writing portion to go through you must select a name/game thoughts/general thought title for the drop down.

Archive page:

This page will list all the grade reports that you've created. You can delete your article by hitting the trash can and a "yes" "no" option will appear(be careful, because if you double click you'll end up deleting the article below it). You can also edit your article by clicking on the pencil. Which will take you back to the create page and show you everything you typed. That is what you can edit. The names/game thoughts/general thoughts titles will not be there. You do not have to fill those in again and you can't edit those or the grades. Just the portion that you wrote.

Those are the only pages you can't see without creating an account.

As of now the only rosters on the site are the three Texas teams (Spurs, Rockets, Mavs). I will be adding the other rosters at some point.

Looking for feedback and hopefully some people on here that will try it out.

Visually, it looks good. It will probably help to have higher-quality grades if things like the photos and fonts are locked in. I really do think it won't be as useful as it could be until the grades get standardized, though. Even looking at those examples shows how varied the definitions of the letter grades can be. Standardize that, and there's so much you can do with that data.

In any event, this is great work that I hope you continue. If I can help in any way, let me know. It's a breath of fresh air to see folks still trying to improve the fandom and not just running away like so many have recently.

Good initiative. My only peeve is I would appreciate see the players referred to by names instead of pejorative like fathead and stuff like that. I wouldn't discourage anyone from giving an honest opinion but things of that sort change the tone from an honest review/opinion to a troll take. Not sure you want to monitor stuff like that but appreciate it if you do.. This site is enough for troll takes. But again, not sure what you can do about that.

You need to figure out a standard format bro.

Good news for you is that anyone doing the grades would have to utilize the drop down for the title which will be their name and not "Fathead". Of course they can can still type that in the main body of their message.

Currently it takes approval for your article to be featured on the front of the site so some professionalism would be the goal. That being said at the moment the bar for getting approved is very low. Of course being featured currently, basically has zero value in terms of viewership. Being able to easily link to your work on different forums is a plus though. And if you want to do that then you'll probably limit spurstalk specific culture like "Fathead".

Perhaps in the future but I'm hoping for now people will share their work on forums where that discussion will take place. If I can't get anyone to use the bare bones then nobody is going to go there to comment(at least I don't think).

Can you be a little more specific? Too vague to trigger any creative solutions.

Just run a javascript function (or similar)once the submit button is hit that checks the body of the article for the usual pejoratives on this site. If it gets a hit, then you decide what to do with the article. regexp is your friend in this situation.

If anyone actually uses this site I will probably ask you to be an admin. At the moment that means access to everything that gets created and approving quality grades to be featured on the front page.

Also might have some other reasons to get your assistance(based on some potential ideas).

Thanks for offering your assistance.

Good point! If you want it to be more popular though, you might want to allow people to post their own articles (Spurs or NBA related), not just game grades. Also, are you just making as template where people can use and then embed into a forum or are you trying to create a site where people will go to talk basketball?

I have no need to police the site. They can make their grades with jokes and share them in any community that they frequent.

The goal is to have some value in being featured which will encourage professionalism. In theory people will want to create work that appeals beyond just spurstalk.

Definitely would be nice to create an environment where people will want to post articles about sports. If this goes anywhere that is absolutely something that would be implemented in the future.

It's not something you embed on the forum. You create the grades and you link to those grades. That's the format.

Thanks for your input.

Sounds good. Looking forward to it. FYI submitting the article takes a few seconds to load you'll see the progress bar at the top of your screen, so don't think it's not going through and try to smash submit.

Alphabetic grades are OK, but why not use numeric 1-10. Then they could be averaged.

The photos and font are locked in. When you pick a player on the create page the photo automatically shows up after you submit.

I think the bolded and this quote are indicating similar things. Not changing it yet but I recognize that numeric grading system will be more precise. So a number system combined with a rubric on what each number represents to guide individuals is probably the best method to get some consistency.

I just started with the Alphabetic grades because that is what has been commonly used on here for years. Perhaps not the most precise format but it was common on here and grades are also commonly used on other sites for drafts etc. So recognizable and fun.

Thanks for the feedback from both of you.

For those that created accounts you can create grades and nobody will see them but you. So you can speed through the process and look at the outcome. Then you can delete it from your archive.

Really cool initiative! Don’t let anyone discourage you. As a fan I always enjoyed timvp’s takes and thought last year’s campaign where people signed up for games was a great way to do it to avoid overlapping.

Hey Nathan89 I’ll go back and read this again, but is this something where fans choose a given game to grade and then it’s posted on ST? Is that the idea or will multiple people be reviewing the same game. Again excuse me if I missed this.

Multiple people can review the game. And then link to it from wherever they want on the internet.

If anyone is concerned about duplicate work from Spurstalk creators then we can setup some turn taking process like Chinook did last year. At the moment that shouldn't be a concern that prevents anyone from doing grades. It's been awhile since they have been done. So if anyone wants to do grades just do it because you'll very likely be the only one.

Thanks. Still waiting for someone to break-in the site with some fresh grades tbh. Spurstalk is the only sports forum I shared the site. I was hoping to gain a little traction on here before sharing elsewhere or adding more rosters(currently just the Texas teams). Seemed like a natural fit but bad timing with the release given how people are currently looking at the season.
