I think the critical question is can the Spurs tank below Detroit, Charlotte and/or the Lakers. It’ll take a mighty effort but in Mills we trust.

Not a chance as far as I can tell.

Worst case, Spurs win 3 more and finish at 40 wins. Detroit is at 30 wins with 16 games left and the Lakers at 29 with 17 games left.

They've split the season series with Detroit and have split with the Lakers but still play them one more time.

Can't imagine the Pistons or Lakers to pull ahead of them.

Good news is that the best the Spurs could do is the 13th pick.

The Jazz just picked Donovan Mitchell with the 13th pick.

Can you imagine a player like a Mitchell crushing teams for the Spurs next year?

The Austin Spurs.

Because that's where Mitchell would be right now if he was drafted by San Antonio.

Wouldn't be fair to Patty Mills to not start him at the 2.

For the sake of the tank, Mills had to play.

But the Spurs still have at least 2 expected wins left against tanking teams: Orlando on Tuesday on the second half of a back to back, and Sacramento with the 81st game of the year.

Those could be prime White games that won't hurt the tank and get Mills rest out of respect for him him being one of RC's "big 4"

There's also a road B2B in Los Angeles where game 2 is against the Lakers and that would be a good opportunity.

I personally see them drafting Baby Fathead III who will have a cranium bigger than even our two current Fatheads combined. He'll be a ball dominant player with poor handles, no jumpshot, and below average athleticism, but will at least gets his fivehead in the passing lanes now and then.

Despite still probably being better than Fatty Mills, Pop will keep him on the bench for 3 years because "wouldn't be fair/getting over himself/not his year/etc".

Must be frustrating for Manu who may be playing his last season as a Spur to possibly be missing the playoffs for the first time in his career. The West is just a mess this season with most of them having near or the same record. It such a mess even a 3 game losing streak can push you out.

Nah. It’s not frustrating. First if something like that was going to frustrate him, he should have known when it’s time to retire... Don’t want to hang around too late after the expiration date if he’s going to be frustrated. Second, he is happy to just be playing with his friend Pity Mills.

I guess this is the way to get Manu to retire. I love him and do feel bad for him especially since at the beginning of the year he did step up and help win us some games but he just can't do it anymore. In his latest article Manu sounded exhausted and hurting all over and saying that he can't keep carry the team with all the nagging things bothering him. Good time for him to retire. They're retiring his NT number this summer they might as well his Spurs number too and let him go enjoy his life. I don't think you'll see him either working with Spurs front office or coaching afterwards.

People love to cite that “close to the 9 seed” stat like it’s a knock on SA :lol. SA is closer to the 2nd seed in terms of wins than they are the 6th seed.

What’s really funny about posters griping about schedule and being third is it feels like we’ve been saying “it will stop” for a while now. Yet? Here we are, still third seed. What about the mighty Thunder? How about those surging Wolves???

Some of you should watch nba outside of SA.

Spurs are still in the playoff hunt and still close to the 3rd or 4th seed. It’s jumbled up, even with a horrific stretch and SA is getting Kawhi back.

Damn how the mighty have fallen. From "3rd in the West bitches" to "still in the playoff hunt"....

We were always going to be in the playoff hunt, since the 3-10 seeds in the WCF have always been relatively weak. That's no new discovery. The sad part is as pathetic as those teams are, we're worse. To be honest I'm not entirely sure Pop brings Kawhi back at this point which is why he hasn't confirmed jack shit.

The only hope is that the teams we’re competing against for these spots are gonna be playing each other and a few tough opponents like Houston. So that keeps things close. But the bad thing is the tough remaining schedule.
