I seriously thought that Astros would struggle against St. Louis tonight, but they took care of them with ease. The way Houston bounced back tells me that they will win the World Series.

The Astros will take the series in 6, the pitching of the Astros is awesome its carried them all the way to the damn series.......its over pepole face it the Stros just won it all by beating St. Louis

i saw all of the alcs, and the angel's lineup is nowhere near as solid as the card's - did you miss the nlcs? edmonds, pujols, walker, sanders.

I'd agree with that. The Angels lineup wasn't nearly as potent as the Cardinals was. Outside of Vlad, the Angels are a punch-and-judy team. It was a fairly simple task for the White Sox pitchers to give Vlad nothing to hit -- to play right into his aggressiveness -- since the Angels didn't have anyone behind him to drive home runs if Vlad gave in and walked.

At that, the Angels could have very easily left Chicago up 2-0, despite the Chisox pitching staff.

I think the White Sox have more depth in their starting pitching, but I wonder what they'll do if one of those guys falls apart -- that bullpen is seriously underworked and hasn't struck me as being overly impressive over the last 2 months or so. I think the Astros have better overall pitching depth, given the strength of that team's bullpen.

I think the Series will be an interesting one, since it's the antithesis of 90's ball -- lots of small ball; lots of get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in. Should be fairly low-scoring games. That's why, though, I think the bullpens will become big in the series, and why I'm inclined to think the Astros have a pretty good chance.

i think the stros are better able to manufacture runs, and they don't usually need more than 3 runs to win, unless clemens, pettitte, or oswalt has a bad night. 4th starter who knows, i think astacio or rodriguez had good run support for some reason. hopefully backe can pitch well in that 4th spot.

Statistics would be misleading on that front, since the Astros team that played the first 25% of the season isn't the same team that finished it.

I would agree that the Angels and Astros' lineups are similar -- both have one big bopper (Guerrero and Berkman), several guys who can hit around 20 HR, and a bunch more guys who are best suited to manufacturing runs. In my opinion, the Astros' roles are better defined, and their run manufacturers are more consistent than the Angels'.

Post All Star break, the Astros' offense has actually been better than the Angels' going by Team OPS.
