There's no need to throw shade at anyone. Everyone but Aldridge is inconsistent enough that different people have stepped up on different nights. (Hopefully at least Rudy gets consistent bc the team needs him)...
But anyways the point is that there will probably be opportunities for others to also step up.... Whether they do or not still to be seen. I hope Grandpa Juice isn't the only one who still got it.

He can’t do it every game, but every 8-10 games he gives us one of those vintage Manu games. Gonna suck when he retires at the end of the season and it’s Kawhi’s fault he won’t go out on top.

I love how he can miss every shot but when they really need one he seems to pull a shot or play out of nowhere. Amazing he can still do it at 40. I'm going to enjoy watching him play for these last few games because I really see him retiring at the end of the season. He seems really frustrated and exhausted with the season.

Manu in his prime > Harden.

They are almost literally the same player, except Manu is/was more clutch, a better defensive player and more Athletic.

The only question would be durability.

I prefer Manu to Harden also but im not sure manu was more athletic....without a doubt he was more clutch & a better defender

i also think he was a better passser although Harden runs the p&r just as good if not better.

On the season, both are scoring about the same. Tony is shooting better than Manu and leading the team in assists, but he’s not hitting the shot-clock with game-winning attempts, so it’s hard to compare the two.

Duncan then Manu.

Both have also failed to put some very important games away but they never gave up. And neither afraid to look bad helping the team. Both had the guts to look very bad on some nights. Can't understate this character in an NBA where a guy gets posterized and feels like a fool after the game even though the team gets a win. The player only remembers that he looked bad. What Harden has is that he's deceptively quick, great finisher in the paint, gets to the line constantly and is a very high % FT shooter, can hit the 3 at a better than average clip and has good court awareness. He can't defend for shit, but that's about all he cannot do. He's yet to put any of that to work in the post season and make it count. Seems to fold there. Manu has a lot of great playoffs under his belt, along with some real turds. Harden just has turds.

Awesome dunk, but he was helped when his knee bumped into Yao’s body. That momentum carried a him little higher.

Just think what Manu's stats would be like if he hadn't sacrificed being a starter for the good of the team. Twenty years ago teams were still playing starters at least 30 minutes every game. Pop hadn't begun to rest players and control their minutes like he has over the last few seasons.

Frankly, Manu's magical way of playing was much more entertaining that Jordan. Jordan was a great player and very methodical, but didn't have as many "did you see that shit?" moments as an all around player.

I'm more interested in imagining what his stats would look like if he was in his prime on today's NBA, tbh. His style of play is just perfect for the way the game is being playing right now. Case in point: Manu 0.2, AKA: James Harden.

For the Spurs, he would be a better offensive option than Aldridge, imho.

In this perimeter-oriented league, an elite scoring guard is always a better offensive option than a bigman

He is averaging 8.8 points and shooting 43.6 percent, numbers that are up from last season.

It’s not a matter of whether he can play, but at his age, what are you playing for? Kawhi leaves and this team is likely a lottery team. Does he comeback to play for a lottery team? No. It's largely about whether the Spurs look like a true contender, but that feels like a long shot right now.

If this season the Spurs weren't a lottery team, what makes you think that next season, with whatever we get for Kawhi, we will be?

Also, Manu has said before that at this point of his career he just plays for pleasure.

I think he came back feeling the team had another year of contention. I'd be very surprised to see Manu come back if Leonard is gone though, despite him still being a quality player who could give the team another year. Especially since his contract is only $2.5 million.

At face value it looks like Parker is aging more rapidly than Manu so it's possible. Granted, I believe point guards wear and tear faster than other more static players - but compared to a shooting guard it's very close

Based on his back-to-back DPOY seasons, Finals MVP, and top 3 MVP votes for two seasons... Yes, Kawhi is the 3rd best Spur. I agree it's harder to say that after this season, but it doesn't negate it.

I really think he's played better the past two seasons than in 2015 and 2016. I really think he should keep playing. Take it year by year. Just sign one year deals.

Anyway, first thing I wanted to post on Spurstalk after just watching the game right now - Amazing performance from Manu. Spurs played great as a team and it was good to see them make some outside shots this game. Keep it up and try and bring even more effort to game 5. You never know what can happen. Just play as hard as you can and see what happens.

Spurs were close to a lottery team. They barely made the playoffs. Trading Kawhi would likely mean young, unproven assets, which means growing pains and losing. I think he loves to play because of the rush of games like today, games that matter. But when you aren’t playing games that matter, it’s all grind. At that point, why not just enjoy your family and find yourself a challenge in a different aspect of basketball. I just feel like it’s the end mostly bc I think it’s the end of the Spurs era, and I won’t be surprised if both Pop and Manu walk away after this year.

emanueldavidginobili

I honestly doubt he plays another season. I think Pops wife passing away actually will be a factor in his decision to return. I think he says screw the basketball and just enjoys life with his family.
