The town is buzzing about a punch Kevin Garnett landed on the chin of former Gopher Rick Rickert during a scrimmage at Target Center. Rickert, who won't talk about what happened, needed some stitches to close the wound.
That is not like Garnett to do something like this. He doesn't even do it during the regular season. Rickert must have done something to aggravate Garnett. DUCKS SAYS then why will he not talk about it?

All things are pretty quiet on the Timberwolves signing front. According to owner Taylor, 11 players are signed and the only addition will be a veteran who the club can sign for $1 million on a one-year contract.

Former Gophers defenseman Jordan Leopold, who recently suffered a mild concussion while playing with Team USA in a World Cup of Hockey preliminary game, has had two other concussions -- one in high school and one with the Gophers. So Leopold has to be a little careful about his return to hockey.
Wesley Washington, the California basketball player who signed a tender with the Gophers but had a problem gaining admission to school, is now attending Compton (Calif.) Community College and doing well in school. Washington has renewed interested in being a Gopher and will visit the Minnesota campus in the near future as a recruit. He became very good friends with some of the Gophers, and there is a good chance he will sign with the Gophers once he can qualify academically.

Gophers guard Adam Boone was a 40 percent three-point shooter when he was playing for North Carolina. Last season he made just over 30 percent of his three-point shots. The other day in a workout, Boone hit 41 consecutive three-point shots without anybody guarding him.

Former Gopher Kris Humphries, who has signed with Utah, is working out again after being sidelined because of a badly sprained ankle. The Jazz is going to travel to Russia for a series of games this fall, which will be a nice trip for Humphries.
Brylee Callender, the Lakeville all-around athlete whom some recruiting services rated the top football prospect in the state, is attending Feather River Community College in Quincy, Calif. Callender, an outstanding baseball player, thought he might be drafted. If he can get his grades in shape, there is a good chance he will enroll at Minnesota.
