View Full Version : How long will it take for Silver to get involved with the Kawhi situation

Another serious question. With everyone around the league, players, talking heads/celebrities, coaches, etc chiming in on the Kawhi holdout. At what point will Adam Silver be compelled to step in and do something. Will it take an official complaint from the Spurs FO as the summer progresses? Will it take the Spurs getting pounded/swept in the first/second round? Opinions by a 3rd medical team that there is no structural damage to his quad? How about plummeting season ticket sales, or complicated trade rumors? Also, what constitutes tampering? He is, in fact, still under contract for 2+ seasons including this lost one, with the last one a player option.

Why would he? Kawhi in Cali would be better for the league.

The spurs have the contract edge. Same situation that lead to us getting lma and the warriors Durant, its free agent. Durant quit on okc in the playoffs, lma didnt, kawhi may have taken it to a new level, but hey it worked for gorsuch so the constitution clearly allows it

Spurs would need to file a complaint. If he's hurt there's no point. A complaint will not result in forcing an injured player to play. They might get a DPE or something. If he doesn't play in a long time they might forcefully retire him. I doubt Spurs will go there specially while they still hope he will get better.

Yeah, LaMarcus played through a hand injury his last year in Portland. The rumors were swirling that he would leave, but he didn't just sit out because he didn't want to play for that team anymore. He manned up and played injured and had one of his best years.

Yeah actually this doesn't make sense to me either. Durant clearly played hard in the playoffs the year before he fled to the Dubs. He led the Thunderrefs in scoring 5 out of the 7 games (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_NBA_Playoffs#Conference_Finals:_(1)_Golden_St ate_Warriors_vs._(3)_Oklahoma_City_Thunder). He wasn't at home or in NYC getting second opinions on some phantom injury to his pinkie, or not even cheering his team from behind the bench at home games. There was no team meeting where his heart was questioned. He just decided during or after the series that the Dubs was where he wanted to be. While he averaged like 30 on the Thunderrefs and carried them to game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against a 73-9 Warriors team.

If anything, sadly, this makes Durant bolting for the Dubs look like now the second most pussy beta move in NBA history.

No thank you, that is a terrible return. We can do much better, as well as sending Kawhi east.

Its not that bad...especially if they include a draft pick

Simmons, Embid, Porzingas would be off the table....maybe Boston could put something together.

who/what do you think we can get?

Lakers would never trade Ingram, Kuzma and Ball for one player, even Kawhi

The Lakers tampered to get Shaq in '96. They made it clear in interviews all year they were going after him. I remember West and Magic Johnson both saying during the '95-'96 season that they were targeting Shaq. The Magic tried to press tampering charges on the Lakers after they lost Shaq to the Lakers but Stern dismissed it. Stern didn't care back then because the Lakers got Shaq and that meant the Lakers being relevant again which the league profits more off of than the Magic being relevant. The same applies to this situation with the Spurs.
