View Full Version : This team should have tanked

They've looked absolutely awful all season with no outside shooters who are consistent in a league where the three point shot is valued more than ever.
There isn't a single team out West they can beat in a 7 game series, should have gone for the lottery pick.

Exactly. Should have tanked at the first news that Kawhi was having problems coming back from injury.

I don't think they'll need to tank. Seems like they are ready to drop the last 3 games and exit the playoffs.

if they tank it makes the LMA situation worse. He's not gonna want part of it, especially with the drama that PATFO has brought on Kawhi and forced him to stay away from the team

Maybe. I wanted the playoff experience for Murray, but the team might get humiliated and the Spurs need to rethink this roster anyways.

They already made it worse by giving him a damn extension. But this should be old hat for him... be the man, squeak into the playoffs, take that pounding.

Too bad for him that Stevens already coached a team without 3 of it's best players missing games either all season (Hayward), or for stretches throughout (Kyrie and Horford) to the second seed in the East. :lol

Horford played 69 games, aldridge 71 that’s close. Boston didn’t lose kyrie all year plus They have more good players than us.
tanking is a Dumb thing, you can’t tank with our roster you could just miss the playoffs.

Pop would never allow intentional tanking, he is a proven winner. However if there is truly friction with Kawhi if Spurs miss playoffs not only would they have a high 1st round draft pick but they could trade Kawhi and LMA and do a full rebuild and have picks galore like Celtics.

Patty Mills isnt a starter. I was wrong about him. I used to think that the dude wasnt even in his prime back in the day and he was the future pg. wrong. D Murray should still be in college so he has upside, but still 2-3 years away from having an average mid range shot. Danny Green can still play D but because he cant dribble much & shoot teams can double LA. Gasol is done. Spurs need to make major changes this offseason. If the threat of Kawhi leaving is good for anything, its maybe the Spurs will make drastic moves if they intend to keep him one last season and pursuade him to stay. Eventually this cap change will cause teams to over pay average talent and we’ll be back to big 2 and 3 teams instead of super teams. Some of these rookie contracts are starting to expire and they will want large paydays.

Yep, lost season. If only Kawhi had said he was out this year, then we could have traded our vets and developed our young guys.

And just think this roster without KL is the same or better than OKC who has RW and some other so called megastars...

They have players on big deals that aren’t pulling their weight. Not even taking about Mills. He’s been about the same player he has always been, but Pau is really washed up and Tony looks done. That’s 3rd and 4th highest paid players in the team: $16 and $15 million who are bench players and some nights really subpar. There’s some cheap players in the team that if you have to play is a guaranteed loss, which means they aren’t really NBA caliber. Joff and Brandon Paul. At least Davis, and Bryn, have helped win some games occasionally and are in cheap deals but the other 2 are cheap but haven’t really given anything of worth to the team.
They need to rethink this roster anyways.

Pau and Mills were bad signings this season. Mills is horrible when he's not hitting like last night. Pau is weak. Tony doesn't look motivated either due to him losing his starting position or because of the whole Kawhi thing. I say the Spurs need to try their best to move Mills and Pau. Same with Kawhi. I honestly don't care if Kawhi stays or gets traded. I was hoping for him to return, but seems like he obviously doesn't want to or "can't" because of "injury return management."
The Kawhi situation has affected the team and the season. Tanking wouldn't have been the best solution. They should've moved Kawhi at the trade deadline. Would have given us a better shot this season to be honest.

We'd get poor value for an injured player, people need to know he's 100% or else we get diminished returns

OKC would still take the Spurs in six, maybe five if that's the first round matchup. This is not a team built to win in the playoffs.

Agreed. OKC is a team thrown together a month before the season and they are still as good or better than us. In the playoffs, the Spurs will get exposed.

the spurs with kawhi would have been top 2 in the west... take away our 4th quarter choke jobs since the all star break and we're comfortably the #3 seed right now.
this team has sorely lacked a closer, and really, any perimeter player than can reliably and consistently create offense. you'd also be replacing anderson, who cant shoot 3's, with kawhi who's been a good 3 point shooter his whole career

Some people act like not having a top 3-5 player in the league for 90% of the season doesn’t matter..like the expectations never changed etc...
Spurs are easily Top 3 in West and arguably Top 5 in the league if healthy..which would’ve made them a “contender” if anyone disagrees with that notion you’re just a hater and a faggot tbh

And the people who wanted to tank are the same faggots who’ve been running their mouth before the season even started..and are the same faggots who believe everything the media says and read on the internet..probably voted for Hillary and drank the media kool aid #sheep
The media has never been on the Spurs side going back to 99’..if they can force or control the narrative of a Top 5 player to a big market like LA, Boston, or NY they will. The injury talk gets swept under the rug cause it’s not sexy or dramatic even though if it’s the truth..

never thought this roster could win it all this year even with a healthy kawhi. frontline is a joke, spurs are playing 4 on 5 when tony’s on the court.

Problem is they kept getting second wind with all the false reports of Kawhi *maybe* coming back. So they exhausted themselves gunning for just a shot, since if Kawhi came back they would certainly be in the mix. Now they're just exhausted and undermanned.
