We were talking about video game Barry Sanders. So, curious, what defense do you use to contain him, or any team built around a dominant running back in general?

I tend to use a lot of base defense cover 2/3, but I still often get killed with the outside east-west run and if I don't pinch my d-linemen I get gashed up the gut.

My D-line is pretty good... 95+ overall versions of F. Cox, B. Graham and D. Lawrence... linebackers are M. Kendricks, J. Hicks and N. Bradham. So what do?

First off, thank you and I owe ya one. THANKS~~~

I always use a goal line defense with my one controlled player the safety. I wait until I see how the play is developing before making my move. Took me awhile to get this. I started playing these games in the mid 90's so by now I pretty much have it all figured it. Yep, need a new system with a different game.

Rod Woodson is even more amazing than Sanders in Tecmo III, an ordinary game for him is two KO returns to score, an INTto score, three sacks and numerous tackles. While he was good he wasn't this good.

Has anyone ever ran back a punt to score in Tecmo I, I don't think it can be done.

As a kid I spent hours and hour playing electric football all by myself. I got to where I knew every player personally, what they could and couldn't do, yep, I had my speedsters, that cat who went around and round, the slowpokes. Yep, ya set all 22 players up...buzzzzzzzzz...set all 22 playes up...buzzzzzzz, set all......loved it. Hell, my kickers could kick all the way from the kitchen table into the front room, ha~~~~~~~ I 'd roll the dice for passing, an even number was complete, odd incomplete, boxcars...INT.

I did make my own game, a roll the dice game but without any real action, yep...sucked.

This was the NFL when I first got into it.

Western Conference

San Francico 49ers
Los Angeles Rams
Detroit Lions
Chicago Bears
Green Bay Packers
Baltimore Colts

Eastern Conference

New York Giants
Cleveland Browns
Philadelphia Eagles
Pittsburg Steelers
Washington Redskins
Chicago Cardinals

In 1960 the Dallas Cowboys came into existence, would ya believe they were in the Western Conference? That only lasted a couple seasons. The Vikings showed up in 1961.

Obviously Jim Brown the big star.

The AFL came into existence in 1960, it looked like this.

Western Conference

Los Angeles Chargers
Dallas Texans
Denver Broncos
Oakland Raiders (real close to being called The Senors)

Eastern Conference

New York Titans
Boston Patriots
Houston Oilers
Buffalo Bills

Their first "star" was a shifty, speedy RB out of North Texas State named Abner Haynes, a Texan (soon to be Chief)

Way back in the day we did have the Kansas City Cowboys in the NFL.

Gotta love the Tonawanda Kandex who played in 1921, they went 0-1 then..poof~~~~~~

You guys can't imagine the excitement of having the AFL vs NFL, think if we had two leagues today.

Avante

Time to drop the conferences thing and go with seedings, yep, March Madness.

To limit the big game to you can only face half the league in the biggie....why?

All this time and no Steelers vs Raiders, Cowboys vs Niners, Pats vs Colts in a SB, that is broke and needs fixing.

RB...Keith Lincoln
RB..Dickie Post
WR..Lance Alworth

The fastest white RB in history

http://trackfield.brinkster.net/Profile.asp?ID=7640&Gender=M&Page=Results.asp&EventCode=MA0

Only white RB to ever hold the WR in the 100 yard dash.

LSU's Heisman winner Billy Cannon ran a 9.5

Army's "Mr. Outside" Glenn Davis ran a 9.6, he also won the Heisman. As did his running mate Joe Blanchard "Mr.Inside"

What team has had more players who made the HOF on it than my Niners?

While they didn't make their mark as Niners...

O.J.Simpson
Bob Hayes
Rod Woodson
John Henry Johnson
Deion Sanders
Randy Moss
Fred Dean
Ricky Jackson
Kevin Greene
Chris Doleman
Larry Allen
Richard Dent

Now add....

Y.A.Tittle
Joe Perry..........first black to have a 1000 yard season/first player to have consecutive 1000 seasons
Hugh McElhenny
Jim Johnson.....bro of Olympic great Rafer Johnson
Leo Nomellini.....pro rassler
Bob St. Clair
Dave Wilcox
Joe Montana
Steve Young
Charles Haley
Ronnie Lott
Jerry Rice
Terrell Owens

Frank Gore will be there.

What team compares to that?

Let's take all the QB's who ever played in the NFL.

Now lets drop all but those who won a SB.

Now lets drop all those who only played in one.

Now lets drop all those who never had over a 110 QB rating.

Now drop all those who never led the NFL in TD passes.

Now lets drop all those who never missed a game in their career.

Now drop those with no NFL records.

So who is left standing.........Russell Wilson

FINALLY~~~~~~

This season the Seahawks will be lucky to go 8-8...but....look for Wilson to have by far his best season from an statiscal perspective. He will be in catch up games more than ever, so he will be passing more than ever.

He will start to put up the big numbers now, something he could have been doing all along if it had been needed.

He's shorter than me and I'm short for a guy. But he can be an okay 3rd down back option I guess this year behind Henry (bell cow) and Fluellen (backup bell cow, not a pass catcher).

Watching two Georgia RB;s going in the first 34 picks got me thinking about dynamic RB duos.

How about...

Marcus Allen and Charles White USC
Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders Okla St
Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams Auburn
Darren McFadden and Felix Jones Arkansas
Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell Penn St

Obviously the classic Army duo of Glenn "Mr. Outside" Davis (legit 9.6 sprinter when the WR was 9.4) and Doc "Mr.Inside" Blanchard. both won the Heisman.

Just going with big names there, I get both backs weren't treated equal in all cases.

The best duo in pro football history...."The Galloping Ghost" Red Grange and Bronco Nagurski, both in the HOF

Jim Brown and Bobby Mitchell had both cats averaging over 5 yards a carry. Mitchell a Big10 sprint/hurdles champ. And, a HOF receiver as a Redskin.

Speaking of dynamic duos....

Steve Smith and Chad Johnson were on the same JC team (forgot which) but.......another cat was the star receiver (forgot who)

I always miss a couple, knowing somebody will fix it. Not on purpose however.

Still not sure how Dickerson ended up at SMU, he was a stud in HS.

That White/Bush combo, talk about a classic thunder and lightnin'. there it was.

Blount and James at Oregon another power/speed combo.

Some pro football combos that need mention.

Jim Taylor/Paul Hornung Packers....both in the HOF
Rick Casares/Willie Galimore...Bears
Keith Lincoln/Paul Lowe....Chargers
Hewritt Dixon/Clem Daneils...Raiders
Matt Snell/Emerson Boozer...Jets
Joe Perry/John Henry Johnson/Hugh McElhenny....all in the HOF Niners
Larry Csonka/Mercury Morris...Dolphins
Franco Harris/Rocky Bliear...Steelers
Kevin Mack/Ernest Byner...Browns

Elbert "Golden Wheels" Dubenion

Elbert Dubenion (born February 16, 1933), nicknamed "Duby" or "Golden Wheels", was an American football (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/American_football) wide receiver (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Wide_receiver). He played college football (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/College_football) for Bluffton College (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Bluffton_University) (now Bluffton University) in northwest Ohio (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Ohio).
As a rookie (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Rookie) for the American Football League (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/American_Football_League)'s Buffalo Bills (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Buffalo_Bills) in 1960, DuBenion had seven touchdowns and 752 receiving yards on 42 catches, a 17.9 yd/catch average. He ran 16 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, a 5.6 yd/carry average. In 1961, facing tighter and deeper coverages, he upped his production as a runner, rushing for 173 yards and a touchdown on just 17 carries, a 10.3 yd/carry average. He had 31 catches for 461 yards and six touchdowns.
In 1964, Duby had one of the most sensational seasons of any receiver in pro football history, scoring 10 touchdowns among his 42 receptions for 1,139 yards, while collecting 27.1 yards per catch. In nine seasons, he totalled 296 receptions for 5,424 yards and 36 TDs for a career average of 18.3 yd/catch, and rushed for 360 yards and three touchdowns on 48 carries, a career average of seven yds/carry. When Wray Carlton (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Wray_Carlton) was released by the Bills on September 2, 1968, it made Dubenion the last player from the Bills original roster in 1960 to still be with the club.[1] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-1)
Dubenion ranks seventh all-time in the AFL in receptions and reception yardage. He holds the record for the longest reception in AFL playoff history, a 93-yd touchdown reception from quarterback (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Quarterback) Daryle Lamonica (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Daryle_Lamonica) against the Boston Patriots (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Boston_Patriots) in 1963. He is a 1993 inductee of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame and his number 44 is officially in "reduced circulation," meaning although it is not officially retired (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_retired_numbers), current players cannot wear the number out of deference to Dubenion.[2] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-reduced-2)

Today colleges start looking at potential recruits as early as junior HS. Young guy are thinking about a serious football future early on.

Christian McCaffrey was a good HS sprinter, as was Robert Woods, Sammy Watkins, Tavon Austin, Ezekial Elliott, Todd Gurley, none of them ran track at the NCAA level. Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, Herschel Walker, Curtis Dickey, Darrel Green ran track in college and played football. And as a group they were faster than those mentioned above.

We aren't seeing faster RB's/WR's today. There are no Cliff Branch, Mel Gray, Isacc Curtis, Bob Hayes, Jamaal Charles, Chris Johnson, Curtis Dickey.

9. Russell Wilson, QB Seahawks

Wilson can thank his consistency (and the quarterback boost) for landing in the top 10. He’s never ranked higher than 15th on the player’s list and ranked ahead of Kuechly (No. 11) only one time (2012). Based on the votes, his fellow players ranked him as the fourth-best quarterback in the league over the five years

Tecmo Bowl, Niners vs Rams.

30 seconds left in the game, Rams 27 Niners 21. Niners on the 5 yard line 4th down, a handoff to Jerry Rice around end (I use him as a RB), NO...stopped on the one. Rams ball.....game over. No not really....SAFETY...15 seconds left in the game, Rams 27 Niners 23.

Yep, Rams have to kick off from their 20, back to return the kickoff...Merton Hanks. Yep, you guessed it....TOUCHDOWN.

Niners 30 Rams 27

Niners still undefeated.

Russell Wilson was ranked 5th among current QB's. OBVIOUSLY he's done far more than Wentz. I think this is very realistic...

1.Can debate Brady/Rodgers
3.Drew Brees

4. Now right here why not Russell Wilson?

Frank Gore could become the 4th leading rusher of All Time in 2018.

Drew Brees will become the All Time passing yards leader

Larry Fitzgerald could become the second leading receptions leader in 2018.

Ya don't think of PITT, but....

Dan Marino
Tony Dorsett
Curtis Martin
LeSean McCoy
Mike Ditka
Larry Fitzgerald

Hell, Syracuse

Donovan McNabb
Jim Brown
Larry Csonka
Floyd Little
Jim Nance
Art Monk
Marvin Harrison
John Mackey

Packers defense still blows so it doesn't really matter.

Then again always have a punchers chance with #12 behind center.

We really do need to forget 2017.

Yep, always in with Rodgers in the game.

Adrian Peterson needs 100 yards to move past Marshall Faulk, Jim Brown, into 10th place on the All Time rushing list.

I usually agree with Cowherd but.....

When Mayfield does anything it's.....who wouldn't vs these preseason defenses. When Darnold does anything it's...the kid just has it.

Hmmmm?

High school kid plays safety, linebacker, WR and kicks. A linebacker/WR...???

One of the most amazing videos ever is that of Reggie Bush when he was at Helix HS in San Diego.

And this one....

Obviously ya can't talk HS videos without this one.

Adrian Peterson needs to be thankful he's getting another shot. Not the time to be getting selfish and play the jerk about playing time. The best thing he need to do is... thank you.....and accept any role he is asked to play.

Just how fast is Tyreek Hill?

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Lauderdale,_Florida), Hill later moved to Georgia and attended Coffee High School (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_High_School_%28Georgia%29), where he won both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the 2012 Georgia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_%28U.S._state%29) 5A state meet.[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyreek_Hill#cite_note-2)[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyreek_Hill#cite_note-3)

Football was his first sport, and he did play in HS.

This is a 4.1 40 guy. He holds the NCAA 100m record, the WORLD 60m record.

Here he was today in Brussels vs the worlds fastest sprinters.

Check out that start. Absolutely amazing.

Heads up.

Sometime during the season some announcer will say....he has world class speed. Ok unless he is talking about Tyreek Hill he will be wrong.
