Clippers guard Shaun Livingston, who is sidelined by a strained lower back, has steadily increased his work in practice and could return to full workouts after an MRI exam early next week. Livingston is expected to be ready for the season opener Nov. 2 against the Seattle SuperSonics, coach Mike Dunleavy told the Los Angeles Times.

The Clippers brought in point guard Sam Cassell this offseason and despite the veteran singing the praises of Livingston, this has the makings of a position battle that could last the entire season. Cassell is relishing the role of mentor and should be the starter, but Livingston's upside is far greater in the long run. Fantasy owners in keeper leagues should jump all over him, but otherwise he's probably a season away from contributing significantly.
