Using NBA.com’s PDF chart (https://turnernbahangtime.files.wordpress.com/2018/04/2018-nba-playoff-scenarios-april-10.pdf)of all possibilities, below are the nine (out of 16) different scenarios from the Spurs POV.

No matter what happens, the only four opponents the Spurs can have are Portland, Utah, GS, and Houston.
Out of the nine unique scenarios, only TWO * will result in the Spurs getting the 4th seed, (and home court in the 1st). *Correction per Chinook - 5th Seed scenario below allows for homecourt vs Portland.

Keep tabs on four games tonight:
Spurs at New Orleans, 7pm
Denver at Mnnesota, 7pm
Memphis at OK, 7pm
Utah at Portland, 9:30pm

Use this to determine what seed, and what opponent you want, and who to root for tonight.

4th Seed- Host Blazers

Spurs win
Memphis win
Utah win

---------------------------------------
5th Seed
At Utah

Spurs win
Memphis win
Portland win

Host Blazers

Spurs win
OK win
Utah win

---------------------------------------
6th Seed

or

At Utah

Utah win

---------------------------------------
7th Seed – at GS

or

---------------------------------------
8th Seed – at Hou

Spurs lose

In the fifth-seed Portland scenario, the Spurs would host, even as the lower seed.

so if spurs and utah win, we host regardless of the OKC game?

Really? That seems like the ideal scenario.

We're at NO, so expecting a loss. I'm guessing 7th seed.

Basketball-wise, obviously want Portland for matchup purposes..

From a narrative perspective, getting the Warriors would be nice..it would be a boring series with 2 unwatchable teams, but it's the best time to attempt to get some vengeance against them..

While I'd hate it as a fan, I wouldn't mind Houston as a gambler..should be easy money with several blowouts and Vegas will overvalue the Spurs..

Anyone knows when Curry will be back? Is it certain that he is still in rehab? Is there any way we can put Kawhi´s "entourage" around Curry?

All this questions must be answered before i make a desition.

Why do they get to host as the lower seed? Something about divisions?

In that scenario, SA and Portland are tied. The Spurs have the one-on-one tie-break, but the Blazers win the higher seed because of OKC's interference. HCA is determined by a separate tie-break only between the teams in the specific series. So it would reset to SA's H2H advantage over Portland to determine who hosts Game 1.

It's important to note that this would have been the same even under the old rules, because a) HCA was still determined separate, leading to Portland being a fourth-seed without HCA in 2015 and b) Portland wouldn't even be a division winner in this scenario.

:lol If I do, it's only because of the constant mistakes I've made over the years in my analyses and then having to go back and figure out where I went wrong. The Spurs hosting Portland as the five-seed is my understanding of would happen. It's what everything I've read suggest would happen. But a significant part of me expects to be wrong if the scenario actually plays out. Then I'll find out there's some superseding rule I didn't know about. Then next year, I'll account for that new rule when posting about playoff scenarios. Rinse and repeat.

That's called "learning from experience". Amazing how many people in life can't Well done.

Chinook 2020 should be the perfect seeding computer. :lol Let's hope ST is still around by then.

Thanks Chinook. Updated the list. You need a supercomputer to figure the matchups out evidently.

I'm actually really excited about tonight. And not just the spurs game but to see how everything falls in place.

I'm rooting for spurs win, jazz win, and being realistic OKC win. The toughest of those 3 is for spurs to win. I almost expect to be blown out but I guess you never know. Would be sweet to win.

Minnesota wins go to the Bay.

Denver wins and it's HTown.

Highest pick since 1997

Considering we are getting swept in the first round, it should have been higher...

Seedings would change but matchup stays the same:

Portland win:
3) Por vs 6) NO
4) OK vs 5) Uta

Utah win
3) Uta vs 6) OK
4) Por vs 5) NO

This is based off that NBA.com cheat sheet.
I'm guessing Rockets and GS are hoping to avoid having the Uta-OK matchup in their bracket.

And to think, we should have a higher one had they tanked like I wanted them to missing playoffs.
