SI named LMA to 2nd team All NBA
While Horford’s Celtics had a superior record, Aldridge (23.3 PPG 8.5 RPG 2.1 APG) posted much better numbers and advanced stats. In Leonard’s absence, Aldridge kept the Spurs’ offense afloat and extended the franchise’s playoff streak to 21 years. There’s no major hole in his game: He can create for himself, finish in two-man situations, and log big minutes as a trustworthy and intelligent defender. Had Aldridge succeeding in forcing a trade, the Spurs surely would have endured their first losing season since 1997.
They named DJ to first team All Defensive
In his first season as a starter, Murray established himself as the point guard no one wants to face. His wingspan is endlessly disruptive, his commitment is excellent, and he posted the best Defensive Real Plus Minus among guards with at least 50 games played.
When all the ballots are counted think LMA has a good chance of hanging onto second team All NBA. Seems like there is a chorus of support for DJ making a defensive team. Cool.

Don't see any downside here.

All-Defense is mostly random and subjective criteria, so it's tough to predict, tbh..
Aldridge should be a lock for all-NBA 2nd though..he should also be 3rd or 4th in MVP behind LeBron, Harden and a toss-up vs. Davis..I don't think he'll get the respect he deserves, though..

I don't know how Pop can receive credit, yet McMillan and Gentry don't..they've done the same type of job as him, all extremely reliant on 1 player and nothing without that star carrying them..

Pop always gets undeserved credit. They are actually idiots on other message boards that believe Duncan was only great because Pop made him great.

No way should a player ever play for credit hog Poop

Aldridge has been on the same level as Oladipo and Davis, this season..IIRC, Spurs net rating without him in 2018 has been similar to Sacramento's..
They're also 2-6 without him(including the NO game where he left after 12 minutes and they had a double-digit lead with him that they blew without him) and one of those 2 wins had Kawhi in the lineup..
Their offense is just "let's hope Aldridge is on fire tonight" :lol

Murray's defense is overrated to be first team, but I hope he wins. It gets him a reputation that will let him get away with more physical play because he's a "1st Team All Defense."

I dislike Aldridge as much as anybody here, but have to salute him..he put in the work on his body, he's playing through a heart condition, he gets swarmed and doubled every game, his teammates are unreliable, yet he's still having an MVP season, the best season of his career at age 32..

Davis has more star power than LA, and cousins played a large part of the season, while Pacers are out east.

There's little difference between the East and West, this season..the West only had 2 50-win teams, first time since 1987(and one of those teams is the Warriors, who aren't anything special without Curry)..
And the Pelicans have had their best stretch of the season without Cousins, with Davis having arguably the best few months of his career..Pelicans have more offensive talent than the Spurs(Holiday and Mitotic), but SA has much better defensive players(which is relevant, since SA's defense is far better than its offense)..
Regardless, I don't mind putting Pop ahead of those 2 coaches in the race, but they're on the same tier IMO..I just don't want to see Aldridge not receiving credit because of Pop's reputation, we've all watched how shitty this team is without LMA putting all the players and coaches on his back(that Aldridge-ball)..

the narrative for Lamarcus is absolutely true and he deserves credit... (specially if the talking head are going to credit Pop for this season's record... doing that without acknowledging Aldridge is hypocritical). well deserved for him.

Two of the three writers on NBC Sports put him first team All D, too. It’s got momentum.

Murray probably getting a bit overrated but he definitely has been very solid on defense all year. It is nice to see LA getting recognition though. I badly wanted his ass shipped out last year and it's pretty crazy to think of the difference between now and then. He worked his ass off and his mostly played hard every game this year and led a pretty subpar team outside of him to the post season in a year mired by various injuries. He deserves a lot of credit

I agree that Aldridge has been as good as AD and Oladipo, but the Pelicans have more talent after that imo. Who has the Spurs' second-best player been this season? Anderson? Murray? Who the hell knows? Nobody on the level of Boogie or even Jrue Holiday. The Pacers played an easier schedule too.
The Spurs' SRS of +3.20 is 2 full points ahead of Pacers' +1.18 and Pelicans' +1.19. To me that gives Pop an edge.

East is 597-621 this year (will be 603-629 after tonight, as all games are intraconference). Take out the 780 intraconference games and it’s 213-239.
47.2% winning percentage is certainly better than it’s been in the past, but still a ways from catching up.

He's definitely kept the team afloat.
Unfortunately, there is just a lot of hype ahead of him. Harden will probably get it because of wins, Lebron has the better stats, and Westbrook averaged another trip-dub.
