Gotta go balls to the walls tonight if you want to extend the series. It wouldn’t surprise me.

If spurs go up big early I can see where the emotions of what happened take over and the warriors concede knowing that they can come back in game 4 and win. Kind of like let the spurs have this one kind of thing . But who knows, it might be opposite.

Tough to predict..they could come out and play hard for Pop as people are predicting, but they could just as easily not care about basketball and come out flat..Parker has already commented on the difficulty of playing a game tonight.

Before the series started I thought this would be the one game the Spurs would win before losing the series in 5. Hard to tell now.

Yup. I guess we'll see. Manu also mentioned how tough it'll be.

No surprise. Thanks for the update. Thoughts with Pop he must be devastated. Retirement at his age is a real possibility too.

Actually id think the opposite. I don't think Pop wants to garden in an empty house.
Well, at least we don't have to worry about Messina forgetting to put Kawhi back in the game like other assistant coaches have done.

No. It would normally be, but not now. Why would he retire now just to go home and sit by himself making the sudden void in his life even worse? He will coach for several more years until he adjusts to the drastic change or isn't able to coach.

It’s possible. If he was a younger man I wouldn’t even mention it but he’s nearing 70 and I think this will hit him really hard.
Plus, he’s getting tired of coaching and it showed b4 Ms Pop death. Him giving that statement after game 1 that he is “so tired of this” showed his state of mind. And his interests away from basketball keep him very engaged. I didn’t think he was going to do more than another season or two anyways.

Two. He'll coach the next two seasons, and then ride off into the sunset with USA*Basketball.

I think he wasn’t meaning to coach much more than a couple of years anyways. I didn’t think he’d say past 2020 when his commitment with team USA is fulfilled. He does seem like he’s looking forward to life after basketball often iMO

He meant the interview stuff, but he actually gave a lot of reasons why he still enjoys coaching in that interview. Mainly surrounding the young guys.
I could see him not wanting to be a distraction this season, but who knows.

You think he's going one and done when it took him so long to get the big chair? Krzyzewski coached three Olympics and some World Championships/Cups. I expect Pop to do at least two cycles. He won't have a full time job after the 2019 WC, and how hard is it to roll out the basketballs on the gym floor for the best group of 12 players on the planet? His commitment will be 3-4 months, split over two summers, every four years.

If he didn't retire with Duncan, and he doesn't retire immediately after the travesty of this year, I say he coaches at least 3 more years barring a serious health condition.

Pop has struck me like he’s been ready to retire for a while. He’s struck me at times like he’s hung on bc of that commitment to Lamarcus, Tony, Manu, and Kawhi extending the championship window. It has come accross in many different interviews. But I don’t think he has the stamina or interest to coach a rebuild. This thing with Kawhi may sap him of energy and interest, specially after a season he almost lost LMA. We will just agree to disagree since this is just an opinion.
not talking about anything beyond 2020 since he will be 72+ and health is the major thing from then on

Haven’t seen anything legit. A report I saw said her condition was since the mid 90s but worse in recent years.

Just a few days ago, Charlotte have received permission to interview him..I wonder how last sad news will affect Pop and Messina's future. Even if Pop doesn't retire next season he could ask Messina to stay...

I want Messina to surprise me this game....He's too much conservative about lineups and style -even more than Pop-, Spurs need something new and crazy to face GSW.

Pop would never do that. He always encourages his players and coaches to expand their opportunities and take other jobs. Por ejemplo, he's done it with Boban and Simmons in recent years on the player's side and with Brown and Budenholzer on the coach's side.

Agree. But if he doesn't feel that well and -maybe- wants to retire in 2019 summer, he could ask Messina to stay one more season to become Spurs-head coach in the next.
