We're about to find out if the 2026 World Cup is going to go to USA/Canada/Mexico (United Bid) or Morocco.
* It's about $15 billion in revenue and most the infrastructure in place vs. $5 billion in revenue and most the infrastructure not in place. Voting nations stand to make about $50 million more each if US is picked.
* 2026 WC will be the first to feature 48 teams.
* United Bid would mean 60 games in US and 10 each in Canada and Mexico. All games from quarterfinals on would be in the US. Dallas/Atlanta to host semis and NJ (new Metlife Stadium) to host the final. 17 proposed US sites to be cut to 10 if bid is accepted.
* 207 of 211 member nations voting. Four having bids are ineligible to vote.
* 1994 WC in US still owns the record for ticket sale revenues and even triple 2014 Brazil.

http://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-world-cup/4/blog/post/3524721/how-2026-world-cup-bid-was-won-by-canada-mexico-and-the-usa
MOSCOW -- In the end, the United States-led bid to bring the 2026 World Cup to North America won the tournament's hosting rights by a landslide over Morocco, 134-65, at Wednesday's FIFA Congress.
However, as recently as a few months ago, there was a feeling that the sides were much closer, with some even believing Morocco had the edge. So how did the North American federations pull off such a resounding victory?
Also important is the legacy of a shared-hosting bid, which could open up possibilities for other regions -- perhaps even a North Africa bid including Morocco? -- to make a more reasonable case to host the world's biggest sporting event in the future.
Geopolitics was seen as a potential wild card (http://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states/story/3522203/politics-out-of-united-bids-control-ahead-of-2026-world-cup-vote), particularly given the inflammatory nature of some of President Donald Trump's policies and comments with regard to foreign countries, but it turned out to be less of a factor than most thought.
Russia, which had previously stated its support for Morocco, changed its mind and voted for the United bid; Venezuela, which is on the travel ban list created by the Trump administration, did the same. By contrast, North Korea, which earlier this week participated in a historic summit with President Trump and U.S. government officials, voted for Morocco.
Ultimately, Cordeiro said, this "wasn't a United Nations vote." It was about soccer and each voter cast a ballot based on what would be best for his or her own federation. That reality was in stark contrast to the 2010 bid vote, when two dozen FIFA executives awarded the 2022 tournament to Qatar (and not the United States), in an election that was later shown to be rife with corruption.

The six Canadian and Mexican locations are locked in. Seven US cities will not be selected. Speculation is that Dallas and Atlanta are the venues for the semis and NY/NJ is the venue for the finals. I wonder what factors would lead the seven to get axed? Hard to imagine LA not being selected for instance. And do they want two Florida / California sites for better weather? Do they try not to touch the Midwest sites to reach a broader base of fans? Seattle has a huge fan base (maybe the biggest), so it's hard to see it getting cut. What factor does east coast money play in it? I don't know, tbh.

Surprised no Chicago in the US bid..
Denver and Kansas are kinda meh.. Expect them to be cut..
Guessing the Final will be host in the new Inglewood Stadium or Metlife in Jersey, most likely the former.

It was initially reported that the three Canadian and three Mexican sites were locked in. It seems for sure that the ten games each in Mexico and Canada are locked in. But this one of a few reports having me believing that the initial report was wrong.
The other U.S. cities in the running are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey are the Mexican candidates, while Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal are the Canadian contenders.
Only 16 cities will make the final cut. What are Kansas City’s chances?

What’s the key to success for the U.S. in 2026?
Tim Howard: The key for the U.S., or any team that goes into this as a minnow, you hope your key players are in their prime, are leaders, and have the tournament of their life. You hope they reach the pinnacle of their careers at that point in time. For the coach, we need to play tactically and astutely. We need some luck on our side. Home field is huge in the World Cup. You saw that with South Korea in 2002 and France in ’98. Playing at home is a special thing.

Premier League is the only national league I care about, tbh.
Serie A is what I'd probably watch if I had to choose another (but I wouldn't be real excited to watch Juventes do their rite of passage even then).
So, then again, maybe Ligue 1 just because Paris Saint-Germain often has enjoyable teams.
Or I'd choose MLS if the Galaxy had a return to something like Keane, Beckham, Donovan; but I don't see that happening.
In fact, the MLS has become unwatchable in recent years. They really need relegation.

It's got some competitiveness in the top six that France/Spain/Germany doesn't have; but I don't get excited about it nonetheless.
EPL I can watch any match-up 1-20 and be into it.
