Duncan took less after that point so the Spurs would have had the cap space to build another title team around him in which they were able to.

I was surprised his feelings were allegedly hurt by what Parker said but like I have said before if it bothered him he should have confronted Parker instead of retreating and going into hiding. That's not something a grown man does. I do believe Kawhi suffers from some sort of trauma from his father's death that makes him a very passive-aggressive person and then factor in he's a mute which makes it very difficult for people to relate to him ala his teammates.
