How do you think that goes?
Does he actually play?
Do the Spurs ban him from the arena?
He plays, but the fans boo him on every touch?
How do the players react to something like this?

He signs and everyone pretends nothing ever happened.
He doesn't sign and the crowd begs him to stay until the end like they do with every other major player who says he's leaving. (Melo in Denver, Paul George in Indiana, etc)

Resign and trade his ass to the Kings or the Hornets or some other hellhole.

He may simply announce his retirement.

I wish, but this situation is unique with all the issues surrounding this past year and his non-support of the team during his rehab.

He's not going to be banned.. that's silly talk. I think both parties will be professional and I'm sure there will be some fans that will boo him. Best case scenario is that once he's back around the team and coaches, the real reconciliation can begin. We still have until Oct to offer the supermax and this saga has gone so many ways so a happy ending is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Thing that pisses me off the most is him not supporting the team on the bench. Its a business and if he wants out of SA I can deal with that. He deliberately didn't support the team when all he had to do was show his "injured" ass up. Tell you what, LMA did all the heavy lifting this past year without complaint. I hope Pop and RC play hardball on any trades.

Everything will be forgotten after his first 25pts 6rbs 2 steals and a block shot :lol

Which is not how we got to this situation in the first place.

I seriously doubt if Kawhi isn’t traded that he’ll show up at Spurs training camp. That would be very uncomfortable for him (who cares) or the other Spurs players and coaches who he’s reportedly said he’s having no fun with. I know I’d be giving him one helluva cold shoulder if he was around. That said I hope they just hold him until they can work out the best deal to anyone but the the Lakers (can’t reward collusion). Trade him by the deadline.

This totally needed its own thread, it's only been covered about fifty times in the big Kawhi thread.

48 minutes per game. Let's see how that quad holds up.

It's like I said earlier the Spurs need to play him 10-20 games. If he plays great in that span then other teams will make better offers.

He will have to play with the Spurs as normal or he will have to retire and give up money this year and the following year before he could sign with a new team. This is actually the best road for SA. If after a year KL decides he wants to go free agent, the Spurs then could go after other free agents like Tobias Harris or Klay Thompson that are better than any other package. This gives you a year to right the ship, and if it does not work you can go get players who are better than anything being offered.

Why would both parties be professional? Kawhi and his group haven't been professional in a year tbh. :lol

He may simply announce his retirement.
No money, and he can't "unretire" and go anywhere else later.

I don't think he can get out of it like that. It's too easy. I think if he decides to "unretire", he still has a year left on his contract, even if it's two years from now.

I wouldn't give him a cold shoulder, I'd smack the shit out of him the first time he goes up for a layup in practice

I thought the team still retained rights if a player retires and then comes back

he'd have to play, could you imagine his frustration missing 2 years of his prime

I think he will threaten not to play and ruin the locker room chemistry and eventually PATFO will get frustrated enough with his threats and going by the Spurs' way (and dignity to not take his shit) will trade him

He would play, that's my hope. And to be frank, with Pop and Manu retiring soon, and LA past his prime, I would love to bring Kawhi back another year and take a crack at the west conf teams. I can see them going all in that way.

Another fake injury and will go back to rehab.
Another fake injury and will go back to rehab.
I think the Spurs would probably get an independent medical exam at that point.
And if Kawhi is collecting another $20 million staying outside of SA, in NYC or California, he definitely will pay NY or Cal state income taxes on those funds.

With Lebron signing first with the Lakers and Magic talking about his two year plan, my guess is Kawhi starts the year playing for the Spurs this year, with the idea he signs with the Lakers as a free agent next year so the Lakers keep all their assets. Before the trade deadline, the Spurs basically give Kawhi away to an Eastern Conference playoff team (Philly/Boston) hoping to make some noise and the slim chance, that maybe, just maybe, they pull a Paul George resigning.
No money, and he can't "unretire" and go anywhere else later.
Shame, right ?

If Kahwi doesnt get traded....he will go from 100% healthy to 100% injured in about 30 seconds.
