I’ll always remember his play in 07 and 13. He’s the star of so many of the franchise’s greatest moments. One of my all-time favs. Not as fundamentally sound as TD, not as unpredictably chaotic as Manu, Parker was somewhere in between. And that balance is what made the big 3 fit so perfectly.

Good luck in charlotte! Have fun running trains on Jordan’s wife with Nic Batum

This. My lasting memory of TP will be his Game 6 steal followed by a basket, and then a step-back three over Lebron, at a time when it looked like the game was lost and TP had been injured (a conveniently forgotten fact by many). Pounding the Cock did a story on it once and compared it to a remarkably similar sequence that MJ conducted, except his team won that game.

But to me that's ok. TP, a 19-year old Frenchie half-breed that was overlooked by the entire NBA save the Spurs, and was supposed to amount to nothing special. Yet at his peak, he almost dethroned the self-anointed "King" and led his team to victory. The loss is very bittersweet for me.

2014, to me, was the whole team breaking out in honor of all the sacrificing Spurs, particularly TD, TP and Manu.

I still remember seeing him in his first game as a Spur.. about 3 feet behind the 3 pt line, and sinks his first 3 pt attempt with some funky ass raw shooting form. Drained it. Wasn't long before he sent AD to the bench. Will suck to see him in another jersey, but it had to be done.

Very tough year for the Spurs organization, 1st the Kawhi Drama, then Popovich’s wife, now Tony Parker. Will Ginobili be next? I can see Parker feeling he can still be useful to a team, in a meaningful way. As a backup he is cool with, not as a 3rd string, as he was towards the end of year. He barely played. He almost become a 3rd string guard and Parker was not ready for that yet, he almost had some DNP-CD. With the logjam of guards, Parker did one last great thing for the organization and moved on, so that D.White, Murray and Walker can play and grow. For the present and future of the franchise. I never saw him leaving. That being said, I have a feeling he will return after 2 years to finally be that 3rd string guard in a mentorship role, for Popovich’s final year, and Parker’s year 20 and then take a Spurs front office job.
Greatest Spurs point guard ever!!!
The Spurs mentorship now falls on Patty Mills.
Go SPURS GO!

Love TP man. Spurs wouldn't be the same if they hadn't picked up this 19-year old kid from France, and had him tested by fire.

Special moments:
- His Finals MVP
- The way he always performed against Nash's suns, always threading through the defense
- The way he carried the Spurs after 2010 when Duncan and Manu were slowing down
- His shot against LeBron James, game 1, 2013 Finals
- His game against Memphis where he went 6-7 for the game after not having a good playoff series

He made famous the teardrop shot. Now almost every NBA point guard has this in his arsenal.

I remember when Tony would be one of the top 3 finishers in the paint for the season, not bad for a 6'2 point guard.

I know my basketball game definitely's been changed by this guy (hopefully with a better 3-point shot lol).

But he always seemed to make the 3-point shots that mattered.

Not bad for the 28th pick in the draft, for a kid from Europe given the rein to the Spurs at age 19.

Here's to you TP. Good luck in Charlotte, and with Michael Jordan, and James Borrego. Hope that team goes to the playoffs. I know San Antonio will miss his presence on and off the court, but can't wait till we retire, finally, the great TP.

It's either that and/or he was more hurt than he let on, maybe not so much with being demoted, but with being phased out. Think he wanted to stay if they truly wanted him to and not just because they felt obligated.

If the Hornets stand pat, the only way he'll have have a "significant" role, is if in addition to backing up Walker, they force feed him some minutes alongside him. That would be stupid because it would come at the expense of Monk (as bad as his rookie season was, he's still one of their 2 best prospects and they're a fringe playoff team either way).

Tony was a great Spur! I'll never forget his many one-man fast breaks, clutch shots and focus over so many battles. I used to love how he and Nash went at each other. At his peak, #9 was an unguardable force.

Special player and breath of fresh air. Painfully unathletic team and then all of a sudden here’s this 19 year old flash of lightning in transition. The crossover, the spin. I used to marvel at how he could finish at the rim among the trees. If he was close to the rim he could finish off glass from any angle. Played with balls and passion despite constantly taking a beating inside. A franchise all-timer and we were lucky to have him. Godspeed and see you around.

Loved watching this young 19 year old Frenchie come into the league and transform himself into the the dominant player he became.

Honestly there are too many moments to possibly list them all, and many have already been mentioned.

Getting the better of Nash year after year, torching other players with his blazing speed and the floater...that beautiful shot that broke the will of countless shot blockers.

I will always remember that floater over Shawn Bradley...looked for the link and didn't find it.

The career high in '08 vs the T-wolves isn't his best game, but still stands out in my mind.

Watching TP mature over the years from a scoring pg to the ultimate weapon when he would get his, to get others their shots...always keeping the opposing defense off balance.

A big part of the beautiful game for so many years. Finals MVP, selfless team first player, first ballot hall of fame, underrated defender, most feared single man fast break for over a decade, and greatest pg in Spurs history.

Just like Manu, TP could have had more all star appearances if he would have just been about himself...but he isn't geared like that.

Always deserved more credit for being tough. Took tons of contact night in and night out, but didn't get the credit for being tough like Iverson did. TP destroyed the Euro players arn't tough myth.

Part of a big 3 super team that was made in house, not bought.

Best wishes to you TP. You will be missed in SA.

One of the most underrated PGs of all-time, so fortunate that the Spurs didn't replace him with Jason Kidd..

One of the most underrated PGs of all-time, so fortunate that the Spurs didn't replace him with Jason Kidd..

He was always very good, but being the HOTS in the post-prime Duncan system took it to a different level, never thought he would become an MVP candidate and play at the level he did in 2013, especially the series against Memphis..
its also nuts how well he played against memphis in 2017 when he had been TOSB for years

Amen.

Rafters, Hall of Fame, possibly a FO position some day. :toast #9

:toast Not sure about the FO position. I kind of expect him to slip into a comfy French retirement.

Seeing the Big Three Era crumbling to a pretty inglorious end amidst the Kawhisis is pretty sobering. "There be giants" was once an apt description of the Spurs...

Damn, some salty mod just erased by thread or something. So, I'll just say it here for posterity; TP will be back for his 20th (or 21st) season to retire as a Spur. Unless he falls apart well before then. Then, the Spurs will sign him on for a remainder of a season.

Same here. I remember practicing his tear drop a bunch of times until I mastered. I'm the same height as Tony which influenced me to practice it after seeing how effective it was against big guys. That move was a money maker for me on the courts.

He was the most important piece to the Spurs rising from the ashes one last time even though he declared the Spurs done after 2011.

Dunno the specifics but maybe it had more to do with his role. Probably felt he had more to offer than a mentoring role.

Part of the plan to keep Kawhi..

Well said sir! Parker was monumental and did a great job keeping pace (for the most part) of our team. A great point guard to go along with the fast pace the game was heading at that time, Parker could run with the best of em. Cheers to TP. :toast

TONY probably would have banged the shit out of her if she was worth it my guess she wouldn't even make his top 100.

TP WAS A FEARED player by the Lakers in his prime... Everyone remembers the 2004 Lakers/Spurs for 0.4... But the sad moment for me was watching TP torch my defensive idol GP the "glove" so bad GP Pjax and Shaq bickered publicly on how to best defend him after he destroyed us in games 1&2.

Murray said his lasting TP memory will be the night Parker blew his quad tendon vs. Houston in the 2017 postseason. The two sat in the locker room for an hour after the game talking. Parker, knowing his playoffs were over, wanted to make sure Murray was prepared.

Really expected Tony would be a Spurs lifer, but he has to do what is best for himself.

He said he wanted to play 20 seasons and, to his credit, he's doing what it takes to get there. He still has time to put more money in his pocket, and feels like he is worth more than the vet min and a mentor role. Whether that is true or not...you can't fault the guy for going out to get his.

Props to Tony for recognizing that the Spurs are, for the first time in ~30 years, looking at a rebuild. They need to focus on the future, which includes guys like Murray, White, and Walker. They simply didn't have the money or playing time to let Tony ease his way into the sunset.

Here is hoping Parker comes back for a vet min when he is ready to take on mentorship, and can truly retire as a Spur. Either way, I have no doubt his jersey will be hanging in the AT&T rafters some day.

Thanks for the memories, TP!
