It was 1:1 at that point, Croatia wouldn't have to attack giving chances to France to score in counter attacks. The first goal for France, that wasn't a free kick either.

That was given on a phantom foul.

And honestly, I've reffed. I've made that f-up. What you do to try and make up for it is not give away another goal too easy; and this ref went to complete opposite way with it. He was bush league all the way. It's sad that that can happen at a world cup final.

Ah...I misunderstood the post. Thought he was saying the goal wasn’t from a free kick. Agree that first call was wrong.
And imo, it had more to do with the outcome than anything else.

Disappointing end to a great WC.
