Why not, they did five in a row ?
For the last three games in SA, starters and second unit will play more.

How'd you get home so quick? We were just getting in our car at 10:15.

Oberto looked good. Seemed to like being in the thick of things. Made a great pass to Van Exel. Apparently uses the same barber Manu does (or doesn't use I should say).

I was at work- not actually in attendance. I left mid way through the third.

The grinch boss who stole the spurs games is gone.
It is a much more relaxed work environement and no one rushes me out anymore.
Still, I am being careful not to press my luck so that I can stay longest when the games really count. = )

I saw Jerome James give him the hip on a rub. It was one of those semi-moving screens. It caught him on the thigh and he went down. I couldn't tell how badly it got Manu but he didn't try to score too much tonight. NY was collapsing the lane whenever he tried to penetrate.

Rasho was very aggressive about setting screens for Tony last night. These are the kinds of things that never appear in a box score but contribute to the overall effectiveness of the offense.

can someone tell me what happened in the last quarter? We got killed 31-17...

The Spurs seemed to be able to stay just ahead of the Knicks all night. In the last 3-4 minutes of the game, Pop took his scorers out with the exception of Tony (I don't see Brent as a true scorer). He had TP, Barry, Sanders, Marks and Rasho on the floor in the last 3 minutes and the Spurs only scored one FG and had 3 TOs. Frye and Jackie Butler played excellent interior D during that time.

The Knicks, on the other hand, had Jamal Crawford - their penultimate scorer (since Marbury was sitting) and a hot Channing Frye, and they didn't miss.

That's how you lose a game after you controlled it the majority of the time.

A few observations from the game:

- Tony's jumper was looking much improved, but he still has terrible free throw issues
- Van Exel was in the zone
- Oberto had some mice moves but still needs a little more time to get used to playing with his new teammates
- Rasho looked really good in the game, nice ad aggressive. He even tried a one hahded SLAM :wow. He didn't make it, but if he keeps up that kind of aggression I see no reason why we should trade him.
- Duncan's free throws looked nice, at least for this game
- Barnes was guarding Bowen, so I didn't really get a good enough look at him to see if he would have been worth getting for defensive reasons
- To quote Timmy, if he loses the hair, he's "basically retarted" :spin

My Game Report

Jackie, Mandy, Lily, Pam, Kristen, Speedy and I made our way into the SBC Center, named as so for now but likely to change in the near future (my vote is to call it the AT&T Arena, if they must change it). Warming up on the court was Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Brent Barry, joined a bit later by Robert Horry though he used the Knicks tunnel rather than the Spurs tunnel where I was. Most of the players had come and gone but I did chat with Tony Parker, letting him know I was visiting in from California. He asked how long I’d be in town for and told me to have fun at the luncheon, he’d see me on Tuesday (I’m also going to the Pacers game) and shook my hand.

Jackie was talking with some friends by the court so I went over by her, which also happened to be near where Horry was warming up. Robert saw me and said hi but continued his warm-ups. I saw Ginobili leave and take a picture with some fans that had flown in from Argentina, they were jumping around they were so excited to have met him. Barry made his dash to the locker room but did say hi to me, which is probably the longest conversation I’ve had with him yet (he never stops for autos). I was back by the Spurs tunnel and Horry went back to the Knicks tunnel so I didn’t get a chance to talk with him.

Jackie and I had seats in the 5th row, but there was only 1 row of seats in front of us besides the 2 rows of courtside seats. We were in the corner between the Spurs tunnel and the Spurs bench. I managed to lose my notebook that I normally take notes on (and a great thanks to the janitor guy who crawled under the bleachers at the end of the game to retrieve it for me) so I’m just going off memory here.

Tim Duncan – Timmy is Timmy, though he does seem to have a 70’s look to him with that fro. At least he shaved the beard. Funny moment in the first quarter – he almost fell on top of a cameraman but there was someone holding him up by the shorts to keep him from falling, that had to be uncomfortable (for TD and for the cameraman).

Tony Parker – His jumper does look better, want to see more of that. He’s said repeatedly in the past that Stephon Marbury is his toughest match-up, probably because he relies so much on his speed and Marbury can keep up with him and also has more strength.

Steven Barber – I saw this guy first! If you’ll remember the summer pro league in 2003, I saw this guy play and even told Peter Holt that I thought he was good, he reminded me of Tony Parker. Check out some of my game reports (http://www.mistilynn.com/games.htm) from then to see my write-ups on him and pictures. Anyway, he’s on the Knicks squad now and played quite well, he looked excited just to be there and did his best to match-up against Parker. He’s got a good shot, good speed and did okay on D.

Rasho Nesterovic – Did you see that jumper he took? I saw him catch the ball there and go up for the shot and said, “Oh no…” but then he made it. Good job Rasho, hit some more of those. When does Nazr get back?

Robert Horry – Okay, so he didn’t have a brilliant scoring night but it’s pre-season, he doesn’t start warming up until April or so. My guess is he was mostly out there to help get the new guys acclimated to the system. At half-time, Emmett Shaw found me to give me his ticket from the Finals Game 5 and some confetti from the championship celebration for my collection, thanks Emmett and good to meet you! The funny part is that he said he didn’t know where I was so he asked Horry who told him where I was sitting and that I was in the pink hat (note: that’s the pink hat that says, “got horry?”).

Michael Finley – Ball hog.
After every single shot he took, which was a lot, I yelled out ‘Ball Hog!’ because he seriously took a shot every time he touched the ball. I sure hope he was doing that just to try and find his stroke and get used to the system because … wow.

Malik Rose – He got a very loud ovation when he was introduced and spent much of the warm-up time chatting with Horry, Duncan, Parker and all the guys. During the game when they’d be lined-up for someone shooting free throws, he be chatting and joking around with whoever was next to him, usually Horry or Duncan. He’d stop by and say something to Pop during the game and they’d laugh or he’d chat with Bowen. He definitely had some nerves going, picking up 2 quick fouls in the opening minutes and finding his only points at the free-throw line.

Thanks to Mandy for the magazine with Horry on the cover, to Mike for the Lakers basketball cards, to Emmett for the Game 5 ticket, to everyone at the game waiting for me while we got my notebook out from under the bleachers and to the girl that was at the game in the Horry jersey just because you were cool enough to wear an Horry jersey.

Very true he didn't pass very much but I would think that that's what the Spurs want from him, and what can you expect he's a shooter. I thikn if there's any problems with his # of attempts Pop wil let him know.

He shot 13 shots, tops on the team with Tony Parker. To be fair, I think Pop's trying to get him into a groove wihle trying to figure out his best spots in the offense.

Fin also got 2 assists with 0 TOs. The previous game against New Orleans he had 4 assists. He won't strictly be a chucker, so lay off, man!

10-24-2005, 04:55 AM
Finley has handles that make Jack look like Stockton....I rather him just shoot it.

But all these people that think Finley is some kind of stud are in for a rude awakening...he's an unclutch volume shooter....he needs to take a lot of shots to shoot his 44%, but doesn't ever make the ones that matter most.

Typical Finley playoff game:
Shoot a ton of bricks, get hot for a quarter, usually late third early fourth, then miss all the big shots down the final 5 minutes(always willing to take them though)...either that or turn it over.

Doesn't have good handles, isn't clutch(but thinks he is), and needs a lot of shots and minutes to get his...

That is Michael Finley.

But I am the happiest guy in the world that he is on the Spurs now...because I won't have to listen to all the shit I had to listen to last season....not only that but I get endless enjoyment out of watching all the tools who rip Antione Walker for being a ballhog, kick their own ass.
