We have enough data now to say that, no, work requirements don't do much other than punish poor people, and people with health problems.

They create a lot more red tape, and costly bureaucracy, and don't end up helping people.

It shows the importance of starting assumptions.

Work requirements aren't meant to help people get jobs and be productive, but to degrade the safety net and kick people off public assistance, saving money to pay for oligarchy tax cut

I guess expecting actual work or effort is too much. It makes me wonder if intellectual laziness is another tenant of conservatism, as it is so uniform here.

Conservatives, faced with data suggesting one of their favored policies, literally do the very least work they can to defend conservatism.

Liberal idea:
Get rid of cumbersome work requirements. They don't work. Simply give money to people who need it, and let them be the best judge about how to spend it.

Here's How This Cruel GOP Plan to Cut Medicaid Will Hurt the 'Forgotten Men and Women' Trump Promised to Protect

Arkansas' own numbers reveal their Trump-backed Medicaid work requirements are endangering coverage for over 12,000 people — including many who are working.

The rules require able-bodied adults in Arkansas to register their work activity with state health administrators, proving they work at least 80 hours a month.

New state data show over 12,700 people who are required to meet this standard have not, and

of that group, nearly 99 percent of them simply failed to log onto the state website and report their hours,

regardless of whether or not they actually work enough hours.

According to The Hill (https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/401975-new-data-shows-arkansass-medicaid-work-requirements-could-cost-thousands#.W3SIV6Oh_nZ.twitter), this is all despite the fact that

"the vast majority said they were already meeting similar work reporting requirements under the state's SNAP, or food stamp, program,"

implying that

many of these "forgotten men and women" are in fact working, but still in danger of losing their coverage

to the work requirements because of the difficulty in reporting their work.
