But not certain I would win.
Drive around Highland Park sometime if you're in the area. Lots of Beto signs.

And while Park Cities is likely to skew Republican in any election, they're not the kind of low information voters that would be swayed by a name. They'd vote for Kwame Garcia if he had an (R) by his name.

He’s literally been called Beto since he was in kindergarten. I’m sure winning over the Mexican vote in a Senate election in 2018 was the motivation for a five year old in 1977 to get people to call him that.
Why doesn’t Cuban-Canadian Ted Cruz call himself Rafael? Is it because he needs white conservative votes?
has he literally? lol mr. childhood friend.
as for cruz, same tactic.

Pretty sure anyone who would show up for a Trump rally was already going to vote for Cruz if they vote at all. For everyone else, they're just going to see on every local news broadcast in the state the kind of dumbed-down, divisive and empty rhetoric that has Trump's current disapproval at 60%. It's a stark contrast to what has been Beto's greatest strength so far.

Ted Cruz’s supporters are surrounded by Beto yard signs — they’e freaking out and raging at his campaign
https://www.rawstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/BetoCruz-800x430.jpg
Supporters of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) have been deluged by signs for challenger Beto O’Rourke and are furious at his campaign for mismanaging the situation, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (https://www.star-telegram.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article217558005.html).
According to the paper, Beto’s distinctive black-and-white yards signs have “seemingly dominated the landscape” in the state.
Cruz’s signs are rarely spotted, and his supporters are reportedly “increasingly agitated,” partly because Cruz’s campaign refuses to prove his supporters with signs.
Beto signs are popping up in traditionally conservative neighborhoods, which has freaked out Cruz supporters enough for the subject to come up at Republican meetings and events across the state.

Trump Combats Sexist Ad With Retweet Calling Heidi Cruz Ugly --- MAR. 24, 2016
GOP front-runner Donald Trump started a Twitter feud (http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/03/trump-threatens-cruzs-wife-sparks-twitter-beef.html) with Ted Cruz over a slut-shaming Facebook ad featuring his wife Melania. Though Cruz actually had nothing to do with the ad, Trump said he’d “spill the beans” about Heidi Cruz if the Texas senator wasn’t careful.
Now it appears these mysterious “beans” may be that Trump doesn’t think Heidi is very attractive.
On Wednesday night Trump turned to the retweet, his favorite passive-aggressive attack method, to point out the irrefutable truth that Melania is prettier than Heidi (when Heidi screws up her face into some weird pose never seen in real life).

Cruz allies take aim at O'Rourke over eminent domain, father-in-law
The Club for Growth, a national conservative group that recently announced plans for a seven-figure investment in the U.S. Senate race, is launching its opening salvo at Democratic nominee Beto O'Rourke.
Allies of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (https://www.texastribune.org/directory/ted-cruz/), R-Texas, are targeting his Democratic opponent, Beto O’Rourke (https://www.texastribune.org/directory/robert-beto-o'rourke), in a new TV ad over his support on the El Paso City Council for a plan to redevelop downtown El Paso that raised the threat of eminent domain.
The plan never went that far but fueled a contentious chapter in El Paso politics starting over a decade ago. The new TV ad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHl7-T2OktM) from the Club for Growth — a national conservative group that recently announced a seven-figure offensive in the race —
portrays O’Rourke as a puppet of wealthy developers who pushed the project, including his father-in-law, Bill Sanders.
The ad goes on to refer to eminent domain as a “government wrecking ball” :lol
and ends by tagging O’Rourke as “Beto the Bully.”
The commercial is part of an at least $1 million investment in the race that the organization announced last month, seeing a tightening race between O’Rourke and Cruz, on whom it spent lavishly in 2012.
Another super PAC, Texans Are, is also planning to spend into the seven figures on the race, and its first TV ads were hitting the air Tuesday too.

People won't be swayed to vote for a (relative) socialist for any reason; they will vote against specifically what Beto is promising to do as an elected politician. "Nothing" is better than that.
Some will. Plenty of people will hear "socialist" coming from the Cruz campaign and be scared into voting for Cruz. But at some point people are going to notice their wages haven't gone up despite the promises and tax cuts from the Republicans who currently control the government and they're going to be persuaded to try something different. Generally the conservatives who have listened to Beto and attended his rallies don't find his platform to be a harbinger of the scary socialist hellscape that conservative propagandists have been warning about.

Sorry. I live in Pa now, don't see any ads. I got my "next big liberal" confused with the one from Florida. New Ted Cruz ad suggests Beto O’Rourke ‘grateful’ for flag burning. There’s just one problem.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) must really be feeling the heat in Texas because he’s resorted to flat out lying about his opponent, state Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D).
In a new ad, Cruz tries to claim that O’Rourke is “grateful” that people burn the American flag.
That couldn’t be further from what O’Rourke actually said.
The new 30-second spot, published on Ted Cruz’s Facebook page, is so heavily edited it’s laughable.
It shows a voter asking a question about flag desecration, then jumps to O’Rourke responding,
“I think that there is something inherently American about that, and so I’m grateful that people are willing to do that.”
To get that edit, the Cruz campaign had to cut nearly four minutes of O’Rourke speaking, as well as the full context of the question asked.
he audience member then mentions a Supreme Court case related to burning the American flag, and says he’s not sure how he would feel if his elected representative knelt on the floor or “supported acts that desecrate our American flag.”
In the four minute response cut out of Cruz’s new ad, O’Rourke clarifies that his view is there is nothing more American than people taking action to stand up for their rights. He praised the troops, as well as activists like the Freedom Riders, Rosa Parks, those who were spat upon at lunch counters, and those who gave their lives to achieve racial equality.
“They did all of that to stand up for the equal treatment under law of everyone,” he said. “People have been willing to nonviolently and peacefully protest to seek political solutions to otherwise intractable problems.”
He went on to note that unarmed black men continue to be unjustly killed, and there is often not accountability.
“[When] someone is willing to call attention to that, to try to awaken our conscience, to force us to do the right thing in the face of that injustice and violence and to do so peacefully and nonviolently,
I think that there is something inherently American about that, and so I’m grateful that people are willing to do that.”

Would you be able to support this grassroots effort?”
Another apparently unauthorized text shared with the Tribune also said it was from “Patsy” and told readers that
the campaign is “conducting an internal poll and would like to know your thoughts on the dangers of socialism.”
Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (https://www.texastribune.org/directory/ted-cruz/), said it had nothing to do with the texts. :lol

Repug voters have been voting tribal, been voting against their best financial interests for decades.
Cruz plays as, appeals to the Christian warrior/martyr shit.
It would be UN Christian for stupid Christians to vote against a so-called Christian. They don't really care the the bills he votes for screw them.
SO, what opposing candidate would help Texas financially? Texas is at 4% unemployment. The lowest is at 3.9% (2017) while the highest has been at 9.2% (1986) when Lloyd Bentsen (D) was in office.

Then the dude should try to not come off like a charity case. Why is he more worthy of respect than someone who went in and didn't get maimed? Doesn't make sense. Does make sense to feel pity though, because unlike the equally worthy of respect soldiers, this guy got hurt. Anyways, he can go right the fuck off. If he went to the military because he thought we'd have to respect him, then he didn't do it for the right reasons and sheds a bad light on folks to sacrifice for others.

Agreed. These billboard strategists are unimaginative fools. No one gives a fuck what GWB thinks. He's the party pariah that no one admits they voted for (soon to be Trump) :lol . You have to get in the mind of a Tex-ass type male. If you want to hurt both Cruz and Trump at the same time just billboard Trump's insults towards Cruz's wife and Ted's weak response. It emasculates Cruz for being so desperate that he would get help from a man that demeaned his wife and shows Trump's support of Cruz as inauthentic since both men clearly can't stand each other. Win-win.

From that New Yorker (https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/ted-cruzs-iowa-mailers-are-more-fraudulent-than-everyone-thinks) article:
“Given its obsession with political science, it’s no surprise that the Cruz campaign decided to adopt the “social pressure” techniques to turn out voters in Iowa for Monday night’s caucuses.
On Saturday, Twitter came alive with pictures (https://journal.ijreview.com/2016/01/252498-said-undecided-iowan-received-controversial-mailer-ted-cruz/) from voters in the state who received mailers from the Cruz campaign.
At the top of the mailers, in a bold red box, are the words “VOTING VIOLATION.”
Below that warning is an explanation:
“”You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area.
Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors’ are public record.
Their scores are published below,
and many of them will see your score as well.
CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well.
A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday’s caucuses.””

"If you want a factual statement on Beto and his stance on Israel - here you go:
AIPAC is not partisan and does not endorse or support political candidates. Individual members do endorse and support candidates. Mike Nichols is an active member ofAIPAC and he over 50 other pro-Israel supporter endorsed the following letter:
As lifelong supporters of the State of Israel, we, the undersigned, are also proud to support Beto O’Rourke’s campaign for Senate.
Since 2014, Beto O’Rourke has voted for every foreign aid and defense assistance resolution enabling Israel to defend itself.
In the current session of Congress alone, he has co-sponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018 and voted in favor of the Memorandum of Understanding supporting $33 billion in security assistance to Israel and $500 million in cooperative missile defense funding for fiscal year 2019;
he has co-sponsored the resolution imposing sanctions on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard;
he has cosponsored the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act (as he has in each of the past three Congresses);
and he co-sponsored the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act, and the Taylor Force Act, which prohibits certain foreign aid being made available to the Palestinian Authority unless the PA takes steps to end acts of violence.
He recently signed on to the Engel/Smith/Lowey letter urging the administration to fill the currently empty role in the State Department of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, and became a member of the Congressional Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism.
Beto has authored a position paper on Israel, and we think it best to let Beto speak for himself:
“Israel is critically important to the United States.
Because it is the home of the Jewish people, because it is an exemplary democracy that shares our values, and because it is a crucial contributor to our national security objectives in the region, the U.S. should do everything we can to support the state of Israel. Israel is second only to Silicon Valley for high-tech innovation, and many of the medical and technological advances on which our whole society depends have been developed there. For these reasons and more, I am a proud advocate for Israel.
I support a two-state solution but one which the parties directly negotiate themselves.
I also support continued U.S. engagement and leadership in that process.
Any ultimate solution will have to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish democratic state, with secure and defensible borders, and will require a demilitarized Palestinian partner for peace.
Hezbollah and Hamas have thousands of missiles aimed at Israel and continue to call for its destruction. Iran is establishing itself in Syria and Lebanon as a destabilizing force. Israel has the right and the obligation to defend itself against all of these threats.
Palestinians and Israelis should be able to live in peace, with dignity. Key to that politically, is a two-state solution that allows for full sovereignty for the people of Israel and the future state of Palestine.
However, this cannot happen without committed, responsible leadership on both sides.
I am hopeful that a new generation of Palestinian leadership will be able to lead the Palestinian people toward a peaceful, negotiated resolution with Israel that results in two states.
I support Israel’s qualitative military edge, and I have voted for and will continue to support foreign aid for Israel.
I cosponsored and then voted for a resolution in the last Congress to encourage the Obama Administration to quickly finalize a robust and long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Israel.
The resulting agreement will last 10 years and provide Israel $3.8 billion per year.
I oppose efforts, economically and diplomatically, to boycott or delegitimize Israel.
As long as I am an elected official, I will work to build on these votes and experiences and continue to be a strong advocate for Israel."
In addition to Beto’s unwavering support for Israel, Beto supports Jewish Values.
Beto often discusses on the campaign trail the tragic mistake our country made when, in 1939, we turned away the MS St Louis, refusing to allow Jewish refugees fleeing from Nazi Germany to enter the United States,
as part of the explanation for why he supports sensible and humane immigration policies and opposes family separation.
He supports reforming our health care system to ensure that all Americans have access to quality health care;
he supports equality for LGBTQ Americans;
and he will work to address climate change.
Beto believes in the separation of church and state and opposes efforts which would allow churches to endorse political candidates.
We urge all Texans and all supporters of the State of Israel to join us in voting for Beto O’Rourke for the Senate."
Desperate Ted trying to rally the most gullible voters with manufactured outrage.

Cruz is a champion debater, an appellate attorney, and senator. He’s got a strong advantage in this forum and it showed. Beto should ask for a town hall debate with ordinary people asking questions. I think he’d show better.
Cruz achieved his goal: make Beto look like a far lefty for Texas standards. But I think Beto did a good job of taking to his base. He knows his base is smaller than Cruz’s base, but his job is to get high turnout and hope that Cruz’s base gets low turnout in a midterm election. I thought he did well, but his followers are going to want more fight and less flowery ideals.

I’m team Beto, but Cruz won the debate.I did the zero volume thing for 30 seconds. I was unnerved by how veiny/tendony/strained Beto's neck looked. Oddly, it didn't look like that from the other side.
Beto also did a lot of swaying and bobbing. Cruz is clearly more attuned with the "cool" impassive TV style of presentation. Beto's been out in the hustings, straining his voice on the stump and it shows.
Beto has hustle but not polish. TV ain't a local VFW or banquet hall.

Beto loses, but not by as much as he should.
Cruz is relatively detestable for a Texas Republican.
I’m less concerned about the optics (though they’re important nevertheless). Cruz had a tight message, knew who he needed to speak to, got his shots in, and appeared and sounded in control. He was on the offensive. Beto didn’t have the composure or the message (or at least was effective in delivering it) that he needed he. Beto is in the mood of Obama’s, but is clearly less effective.

Didn't seem childish to me. I can't really think of any more preferable response (it certainly beats something like "typical" or "that was uncalled for"). It was the perfect brush-off because he avoided outrage and sarcasm. It would have been easy to look like the weaker party there. He didn't.
He turned a side jab by Cruz into the most memorable and defining part of the debate and highlighted exactly what he needed to highlight by doing so: that Cruz is divisive and unlikeable.

Asked about “Texas Values” by the moderators of the debate,
O’Rourke went directly at Cruz and
the negligence he’s shown Texas
as his naked ambition to become President preoccupied most of his time as Senator.
Beto: Only one of us has been to each county in Texas and would have an idea of what Texas values are.
Within months of being sworn to service, your senator Ted Cruz was not in Texas.
He was in Iowa.
He visited every single one of the 99 counties of Iowa.
He went to New Hampshire, South Carolina.
He went to the Republican presidential primary states instead of being here.
He shut down your government for 16 days in 2013.
Too many people were getting too much health care in the United States of America.
In 2015, he missed one quarter of the votes in the United States Senate.
In 2016, he missed half of the votes in the United States Senate.
Tell me, who can miss half the days at work and be rehired for the same job going forward?

At least Beta O has one thing going for him - at least he didn't let a young lady die in the water like Teddy K. "Swimmin'" Ted Kennedy was able to serve a lifetime Senator post where he had little to no chance of being voted out in Massachusetts due to his last name. I think the new BO has warm feelings for the Kennedy Klan.

Mr. 66,700 posts - if Chelsea Handler and Judd Apatow support a certain candidate in a big way, I'm pretty sure I need to vote against that candidate for the State of Texas. Perhaps Beta should migrate to California so he can really mesh with the people out there.

He admitted what he did wrong 20 years ago.
He was busted. "Admitted" lol. You think he went drunk driving once and got caught that one time or do think he went drunk driving multiple times? Regardless he didn't admit anything. Also Kav might not have anything to admit so your standard is moronic.

You are reaching. lol
He got in a wreck from drunk driving at the age of 26. Kav allegedly felt up some girl as a drunk 17yo. Putting lives in jeopardy is significantly worse than that and he did it as an adult. "Reaching" lol

LOL felt up. he attempted rape.
Tell me, do you usually feel girls up by tag teaming them and putting your hands around said girl so she wouldn't scream? Alpha!

You don’t support Beto? After all that work Cruz did to tie Beto to your favorite politician Bernie?

Attempted rape is way worse. Drunk driving - no one got hurt -period.Beto admitted it and changed course.
Attempted rape - he traumatized a 15 year old girl. Had an accomplice too - who also jumped on her. Kav covered her mouth to hide her screams. Had the rapists not been blacked-out drunk they would have completed the rape - but his accomplice jumping on them both - gave her a brief escape route and she luckily found an escape.

Are you seriously saying that his drunk driving wreck was worse than attempted rape?

Attempted rape is a giant leap from what was actually alledged to have happened. So "attempted rape" is not in the equation.

Attempted rape is a biased leap from what actually occurred.
Stop speaking of the allegation as if it's a fact. Beto driving drunk and getting in a wreck is a fact.
Your entire comment is extremely biased.

Allegedly he did something very far from attempted rape. It be like if I got drunk in highschool and started beating someone up but stopped when someone came in the room. Obviously an attempted murder stopped by the entry of another.

He jumped on her, began groping and pulling her clothes off, she was trapped, she tried to scream for help - he covered her mouth, his accomplice cranked the music to disguise the crime, then the accomplice jumped on them both - both attacking her - but because of the rapists being drunk - they tumbled and she found a way to escape - otherwise - she would have been raped - possibly by both attackers.
Maryland calls it a
Felony of Sexual Offense in the Third Degree
Here is their Penal code section;

(a) A person may not:
(1)(i) engage in sexual contact with another without the consent of the other; and
(ii) 1. employ or display a dangerous weapon, or a physical object that the victim reasonably believes is a dangerous weapon;
2. suffocate, strangle, disfigure, or inflict serious physical injury on the victim or another in the course of committing the crime;
3. threaten, or place the victim in fear, that the victim, or an individual known to the victim, imminently will be subject to death, suffocation, strangulation, disfigurement, serious physical injury, or kidnapping; or
4. commit the crime while aided and abetted by another;

Are Dems holding this guy to the same standard as Kav? Seems a guy with a history of drunk driving would automatically be dismissed. I mean how is a 26yo drunk risking the lives of others not causing mass outrage by Dems? Seems odd tbh.
Trump lowered the bar abysmally. That's the answer to your question.

Especially when someone chimes with nothing but a needless insult. I'm sure he uses every opportunity to call people Nazis, racist, sexist, etc and a great deal of the time incorrectly. This is a widely used tactic. Idiot was generous.

He was so drunk he got in a wreck. He put the lives of others in jeopardy. Classification of the crime doesn't override that reality.

Because there's clearly a new bottom that some people are willing to excuse. So certain strategies that worked in the past need reconsideration.

The incident alleged takes a leap to get to attempted rape. Drunk driving is a serious crime and being so drunk that you get in a wreck much worse. And this something he probably did many times. Kav has an alledge groping that happened in highschool and it appears there are no other allegations. I'm not sure how one could possibly think this alledged one time event should carry more weight than a factual drunk driving accident.

That's not really new. They excused Clinton. They are just applying high standards to people not in their tribbe(Kav) and low standards to people in it(drunk driving Beto and Keith Ellison). Let's just recognize that. People don't really give a damn.

Who are 'they'? You keep bringing Clinton, which means you didn't excuse him, but, then again, neither conservative team cheerleaders like you or the liberal team players like boutons are the high value voters for politicos. They know people like you will hold their nose if they have to, and vote for them, or, push come to shove, you won't be voting for a liberal. It's the people that are on the fence that really matters to them. That people used to equate "I grab em by the pussy" as a political career killer. Not anymore. So politicos continue to fine-tune their message to the new times.
