I'm down to give Dak one last year of evaluation under the tutelage of a new head coach, offensive coordinator, QB coach, AND veteran backup. It is painfully obvious that Dak has been in decline the past two years. I thought coaches were supposed to make players better, not worse.

It's painfully obvious that Rush, White, and Moore are a huge step down from Romo, Buttfumble, and Wilson.

I was going to find Daks MSU stats and.....see he was never really accurate. I did find that info, the guy had a great senior season, and then that historically great rookie season. He should be further along than he is but the potential is obviously there.

I believe it's mostly on the coaching until we get new coaches and things don't improve.

Maybe Dak has become too much of a celebrity QB. Too many endorsements, too much time out, not enough time in the film room and practice field. He keeps reverting back to bad habits, he was awful in training camp, and there hasn’t been talk of him working his ass off. However, he has been seen out during the week.

I have talked about that endorsement thing before, I don't like it for young guys who really haven't proven anything. That should be for the Peytons, Rodgers, etc.
Young guys with a ton of $$$$$$$$$$.

Yeah, Williams is a waste. Makes no sense drafting that little mf. There had to have been a Wisconsin lineman available at that point somewhere..
He got his knee scoped and should be out this week. I wouldn't say he is a waste at all, just in a bad spot without Frederick there and some iffy coaching first half of the season from Alexander. If he bulks up he should be OK.

I have a hard time seeing this Cowboys roster at 3-5 with Jimmy Johnson at the helm.
Shocked to hear Aikman unload like he did, that is a big deal.
While Prescott deserves another season**** under a new regime how can you sign him to a multi year big $$$$$ contract?
I do wonder just how much being a celeb now with a TON of endoresments has to do with Daks obvious regression. And, Zeke has to be jealous.
**** up above I said he wasn't the answer, I'm backing off that if he gets different coaching.

He's played in 45 games since 2015, and I can't imagine anyone using trash and Sean Lee in the same sentence. He is without question a great player.

1. Sean Lee, Dallas https://athlonsports.com/sites/athlonsports.com/files/shared/nfl/NFC%20East/Cowboys/SeanLee_2016_325.jpgThe Cowboys' defense can't function effectively without him in the lineup. First, nobody gives a fuck about your bullshit copy and paste wiki jobs and pictures.. Second, the opinion on Lee is shared among plenty of other Cowboys fans and obviously the Cowboys coaching staff. Nobody will dispute he's a great player and at the top of the chart for position when healthy.
The Cowboys surprisingly drafted Vander Esch last season over more glaring positions of need, because of how bad the defense became when he was off the field. The fact is they obiously KNEW he was going to miss a ton of this season. With Lee, it's not a matter of will he be injured, but how many games will he miss that season.
He cannot stay healthy. Bottom line. He has NEVER once played a full season, and his injuries have become more frequent in the past 3 seasons. This trend has followed him through his entire career, dating back to Penn State. The only reason he fell to the second round was because of him being injury prone.

Let's talk about Linehan and the power he has. I read that he (in addition to Garrett) was one of the main reasons they got rid of Romo/Dez/Wilson. He didn't like Romo constantly changing his calls at the LOS. He, like Garrett is fucking hard headed and stuck in his ways.
Enter Dak. When Romo went down, Linehan was successfully able to run his offense through Dak with no resistance. No audibles, no kills. Fast forward two years later and the vanilla scheme no longer works. The chickens came to roost. Everyone who was bashing Romo wishes he was back. :lol
Linehan couldn't win with Stafford at QB. He has no chance with Dak. Garrett on the other hand was a struggling QB coach before we came out of nowhere and anointed him OC. We have the two worst coaches in the league for developing a QB not to mention Kellen fucking Moore. Imagine if had gotten Wentz instead of Dak. You think with this brain dead coaching staff he'd be as good as he is?

That's funny as hell about Romo changing calls, because he was constantly killing shit and calling audibles out of the plays. He knew every played dialed in sucked nuts :lol
Garrett had one good season at OC, and Jerry was convinced he was a football genius. Jerry tried to buck his trend of expecting success within 3 years, and instead went into his relationship with Jason as the coach who he could mold into his Dallas Cowboys vision, while at the same time allowing him the time to fully build the team he needed to win. The only problem is, well, the guy he chose to do this with fucking sucks.
The hire of "the guy who was beaten for the job to coach the guy who won the job" if all you need to see what the fuck this staff is about. It's just a losing mentality there.. the media saying Jason plays "not to lose" instead of playing to win is spot on.
The team allowing that pussy to dance all over the star also shows where the team's mindset is.

Totally against young guys who have never actually done anything all wrapped up in endorsements. I do think it gets in the way. Older guys who have established themselves like Peyton, Rodgers, Brees, ok cool. RGIII, Mayfield, Dak, Gurley....nay!
How many products does Dak hawk, 4-6? Where is his head at dealing with all that, it sure isn't in football.
I do think others on the team resent it a bit, seeing a young guy making all that extra $$$$$$$. Who wouldn't be without them.

Vander Esch, Smith, and Gregory looked really good last night... so did Amari Cooper, our de facto 2019 1st round pick...
the stinker in terms of recent early picks was Taco Charlton... we could have done so much better with that pick... imagine pairing Alvin Kamara with Zeke. Or, TJ Watt because we didn't even know if we'd get Gregory back at the time. Charlton is a very average DE/OLB in pretty much every way. Has been MIA all season long and was never first-round talent in the first place.
I feel like Sean Lee was a few injuries away from being a HOF linebacker... but if Vander Esch doesn't have Lee's injury problems, he could easily be a HOF linebacker, he's already among the best tacklers in football, had a very athletic INT last night and had 2 incredible tackles last night including the play of the game. Jaylon Smith is a heck of a 2nd ILB to have but LVE is the guy with the sure-fire HOF potential... barring injuries.
76 tackles in only 9 games as a rookie in a 4-3 defense is absurd.

Sorta nice game last night - but I still didn't enjoy that shitfest completely.
Half of me is hoping for losses just to see that shithole coach get axed already. Take the shithole offensive play caller with you.
Linehan is a master.
A master of getting field goals - and now that shithole kicker is also playing like shit.
Everytime the cowboys get close - Linehan must be immediately planning the best way to settle for 3?

Some thoughts:
-La'el continued to be a liability
-Tyron Smith looked better, but hasn't put together back to back games like this all season. Story of the Dallas Cowboys..
-LG was a non-issue with Conor Williams out of the lineup
-Dak continues to struggle with accuracy. It's like the more open the target is, the worse the throw
-Cooper was caught mumbling some shit under his breath after Dak missed him on the sure TD.. didn't look too thrilled with him
-LVE is a big ass LB, yet sideline to sideline speed is on point
-Maher missing seemingly easy FG's and cutting them close on extra points is probably going to turn up at the perfect point to haunt the team
-Never have I seen more hurdles in a season.. it's a legit go to move for today's RB
Even with the win, the season has pretty much numbed my enthusiasm for the team. Other than the hurdle Zeke hit, not much to give a fuck about here. Now we can expect them to come out against ATL and shit the bed.

He's going to get better and better with more experience, we can see the potential he has. If I'm Jones I wrap him up for the next decade.
Why they don't use his running ability more is a ..? He's not some frail RGIII, Kaeperick type. Ah....run him smartly.
Love how he handles the media, yep...class act.
That linebacker is a monster.

They use him effectively on the read option and he is getting better at running when they go 5 wide. He reminds me a lot of Big Ben with his toughness minus the rape.

A lot better athlete than Big Ben, and yep...tough. That one run he made bouncing off everyone, a classic. Not enough read options, this guy can scoot 30 yards, a legit runner.
What a great time ro have Dak with the East the mess is it. Hell he's the best QB in the division as is.
I'm not the first to notice this, it does appear Zeke isn't AS explosive as he was. You notice this?

He gave a lot of credit to Sean Lee for mentoring him on and off the field, but I think he will surpass Lee easily and some former players are comparing him to Brian Urlacher.

While in HS Vander Esch ran a 54 something 400m, he also ran the hurdles. A member of the 4x1, 4x4 teams. While he wasn't all that as a track guy, he was all that as a linebacker as a track guy. He spend years working on his endurance as a track guy, this is unique fir a linebacker. He was also a running back who gained over 1300 yards in a HS season. I do doubt he was as big then as he would become at Boise State, but he will always have benefited from that training in track.
He has ran a 4.65 40 recently.
I get it's early, but the kid looks pretty awesome right now. So either figure out to use Lee in tantum or trade him.

LVE with the fastest rise to stardom that I've ever seen from a Cowboys defensive player.. He struck marketing gold too by going with the "Wolf Hunter" nickname, because now he has an easily recognizable celebration that kids and grown ups alike will love, it's easy for the PA guy to pump wolf howls into the stadium after he makes plays, etc.. This will lead to a lot more money for him.
Vander Esch is 2nd in the NFL in tackles as a rookie and is already getting announced last during warmups.. His entrance comes complete with howling, and his celebration with all his teammates doing it. He's basically Ray Lewis at this point. Unbelievable job from the Cowboys scouts seeing this potential before the draft :tu

Taco Charlton is just as big, and makes plays whenever he gets the chance. It's time to bench Gregory and send him a strong message. Jason Garrett needs to hold him accountable.

Dallas defense is scary, but their offensive scheme is terrible. Every time 1st and 10 came up I knew a Zeke rush was coming. When you do something every single time, the opposing defense can easily plan and stuff it. Idiotic.
I think Dallas sealed the division with that win, and with that D and their soul-draining 9 minute drives they might actually make noise in the post season.

You're completely wrong there. Charlton isn't particularly athletic, doesn't get off blocks and has largely been a bust (though I didn't want to draft him in the first place, was an overdraft tbh)... has attitude issues and has 1 sack on the season, 4 total in his career so far. Gregory, on the other hand, has the Von Miller explosive first step, runs a 4.46 forty, and pursues and tackles ballcarriers from behind. Has 4 sacks this year mostly playing situational pass rusher only. Gregory is a stud at RE/ROLB but he's basically a rookie out there due to all the suspensions.

I don't give a fuck how physically gifted Gregory is when he's hurting you the way he did. Tell me, with his "Von Miller" like athleticism, what has that amounted to this season? Gregory put us in position to blow the game and nothing he's bringing to the game otherwise is "can't win without". What makes things worse is the fact that Gregory is largely amounting to nothing this season and he's got D-Law on the other side getting the double teams.

Anytime you get a chance to talk about the Dallas Football Cowboys, it's a privilege.....it's a privilege.....we here at the Dallas Football Cowboys pride ourselves in hiring young men....and women....with character....character....
It's important that all of our guys have character....but when you're 6'6 240 lbs and run a 4.46 forty.....we let the character slide.....let it slide a little bit......
Now if you define character by being named First Team All-Big Ten and having 17.5 sacks in college then I'd say Randy Gregory has a lot of character.....Not only does Randy Gregory have character but he's a good football player in all three areas.....offense, defense, and kicking game.....

In a 4-3 you have 3 starting ILBs. Doesn't guarantee Lee a spot in the nickel or dime.
Worst case scenario you use LVE + Lee at LB in the nickel and move Jaylon Smith to SS which is a perfect fit for him due to his speed, instincts, tackling and hit power. Bum-ass Heath can warm the bench and play on special teams (where he belongs).

Cowboys have a lot of dead money coming off the books this offseason, I’d be really surprised if they can’t keep Lawrence. The 2020 offseason will be more challenging for them because of Zeke + Prescott.

Cooper is pretty awesome and he's shown that he can be a volume possession receiver, too, not just the deep speed threat who gets targeted 3-4 times a game. He's completely changed Dak on 3rd downs. Also, we traded a 1st round pick for him, so we can't let him go for nothing. (Definitely not for a 3rd- round comp. pick.)
I would definitely pick up Zeke's fifth year option to push that one back another year. Then potentially franchise him a year and let him walk. I'd set a hardline number on extending Prescott long term and not exceed it no matter what. Give him the Bortles contract, but look at what happened to Boooooortles this year.
I don't want to lose ANYONE from this defense... welp, maybe Jeff Heath. I guess Ty Crawford is expendable.

If you go by draft position then yeah, valid point.
I guess 1 bad first round draft pick every 5 years (Claiborne 2012, Charlton 2017) is acceptable when literally every other 1st round pick is an All-Pro Pro Bowler, possible future hall of famer (T. Smith 2012, Frederick 2013, Martin 2014, B. Jones 2015, Zeke 2016, Leighton 2018).

He'll make at least 16 mill per. They were willing to give that much to Watkins lol

hasn’t shown enough consistency to warrant top dollar.
I expect them to keep Zeke thru his 5 year deal, franchise him one season, then more than likely replace him with a rookie RB as RB careers are about 6 years now on average

Heath is not a bum...
He's really not.. he makes plays on special teams, and the occasional defensive play.. he's just not starting caliber. His shortcomings are masked in part because of Jeighton Vander Smith's combined 190 tackles

Being this close to being back to being relevant I can see Jones doing whatever it takes to keep it going. He'll figure it out.
Jones has already said he will break the bank to win a ring. I have no worries that the Cowboys will be too frugal, however a position like RB where rookies typically lead the NFL (Gurley, Zeke, Hunt or this season right up at the top in Barkley) I could definitely see them low balling Zeke.
Dude from college who changed his position to LB because it's best for his business is going to start a trend, watch

That dude from college is someone ya need to Google, he's more than ya think****. Yes, he could change things
Zeke is just too big, too important to mess with, I can't see Jones trying anything with him.
Bottom line
The Cowboys will end up...11-5...win the division, maybe win a first round game. Next season another Division title, then....hmmm?
Just a matter of time before another SB giving them what 7/8?
**** I Google his Boise State career, what an athlete.
Run Dak more, just be smart about it.

Whenever their backs are against the wall is when they decide to employ it. For whatever reason they don't keep it consistent with the RPO. I wouldn't overuse it, but they have the tendency to never use it.
I hope this win streak doesn't keep Linehan around. He still needs to go.

Watkins $16m/year (starting slot receiver, but only good for about half a season due to injuries) and Hitchens $9m/year (as average as it gets at linebacker) will really come back to bite the Chiefs in the ass soon enough..

:lmao Ok, I'll admit he's alright on special teams, but his zone coverage as a safety is some of the worst you'll find in the NFL... he does NOT need to be starting on defense... and his tackling is mediocre to bad at times, he got pancaked on a tackle attempt in week 4 of the season by Kerryon fuckin Johnson who promptly scored the TD.

I think he's earned the starting job frankly and has a track record of making big plays. He doesn't have natural athletic ability and an IQ like Darren Woodson, but makes up for it with hustle and heart. I got no problems with Heath starting whatsoever and I'm not going to throw him under the bus for getting pancaked on one play. I think he's just going to get better the more you play him and like you said he's invaluable on special teams. A real glue guy.

His athleticism isn't the problem at all. I believe he ran a 4.38 40 time. He also knocked out one of the Seahawks' special teamers out for the rest of his career with a bone-jarring hit.
His problem is lack of instinct and he's one of those guys whose brain freezes when he's out there on Sundays. I'd definitely replace him with Earl Thomas in the offseason.

Have to give the GarrettBot props on this game tbh
Good on him to keep attacking the corner with the weak hamstring. If Dak completes that easy long pass to Gallup, the game is over and there would've been no drama. Another good call to go for it on 4th, and realizing that the Philly offense was on fire at that point in the game
Also, it's his job to have the team prepared to come out mentally every game and he seems to consistently do that week to week. Fuck me, everytime I try to like the GarrettBot he lets me down though

Makes me think a lot of Dak's struggles are mental. He looked like the black Aaron Rodgers today without Ezekiel Elliott, but I think that's mostly due to the fact that the pressure was off since it was a "meaningless game". That last throw to Beasley was unreal.
Also, with how loud the Cowboy fans were in NY, I was hoping the Rams would get the #1 seed because I'd have no doubt it would be a 50/50 game with all hispanic Cowboy fans in CA

Good win but I’ll say that it really hurts them in the long run if it means that Linehan is safe. This kind of offense doesn’t usually win SB. And with the modern offenses in the league putting up historical points, they’ll become even more antiquated. They have a great D and a good O line. Great RB and WR and fine complimentary players. Their window is the next few years. If they don’t get a new OC, they aren’t going to be much more than they are now.

Ya, NFL legacy is largely based on scheme, coaching, supporting cast..Romo was a better QB than Eli Manning, but won't be remembered as such..
Eli was better in the playoffs. Went into Lambeau & Candlestick and won

I don't really consider Deion a Cowboy. More of a mercenary who went wherever the money was. Loved to move around and travel.

:lol at Garrett all smiles and cheers with the Rams at the handshake line.. I truly believe there is nothing on earth that is capable of pissing this guy off. I bet you could spit in his wife's face and he'd smile and clap through it.

FWIW Cowgirl fans, regarding the bogus *In the Grasp* call.....
Cowboys lineman La'el Collins, it should be noted, may have broken a rule by wrapping his arms around Prescott while Fowler was attempting to grab him.

Didn't see this one. Bogus call?
Two key penalties at the end of the first half Saturday night in Los Angeles cost the Cowboys points at both ends of the field, as the Rams took a 20-7 lead into the locker room. With the Rams facing a 3rd-and-14 at their own 45-yard line, Cowboys corner Byron Jones was flagged for illegal hands to the face away from the play, bailing out Los Angeles with an automatic first down. Two plays later, Todd Gurley broke free on a 35-yard touchdown run.

I just saw one replay but it looked like a good call. Just a bad penalty. Was possibly the biggest play of the game.

Regardless of the grasp call, isn’t it an automatic penalty if the defense hits the QB in the head?

It's called selectively around 30-40% of the time and usually only the top 5 or so QBs in the game get that call. Kind of the Kevin Durant-esque superstar call.

They might not, OC works closely with qb coach and may not want him. Garrett also said they were keeping Linehan Monday morning

True. I hope they get rid of him. Nothing against him but I don't think he's the guy to be coaching up an young QB.
EDIT...just found this but not sure how good the source is
Kellen Moore (http://rotoworld.com/player/nfl/7479/kellen-moore) - QB - Cowboys (http://rotoworld.com/teams/clubhouse/nfl/dal/cowboys)
Calvin Watkins of The Athletic reports the Cowboys will retain QBs coach Kellen Moore.
Dallas relieved OC Scott Linehan of his duties on Friday, though it appears Moore is staying put. A six-year NFL vet, the former Boise State standout has been on the Cowboys' staff since last season. He could be a candidate to replace Linehan, though we're guessing the Cowboys will go with an outside hire

Isn't John DeFilippo the no brainer hire for them to make at OC and/or QB coach?
EDIT: nevermind, I see the Jaguars hired him yesterday.
