View Full Version : Loop 1604 traffic growth is insane.

The traffic numbers for San Antonio were updated for 2004.

Loop 1604 caught my eye.

In 1990 the 26 mile north arch of 1604 averaged 9,580 veichles per mile a day.

In 2003 the 26 mile north arch of 1604 averaged 37,692 veichles per mile a day.

In 2004 the 26 mile north arch of 1604 averaged 42,653 veichles per mile a day.

Loop 1604 has experienced ridiculously blistering traffic growth since 1990 with average AADT counts up well over 250% along nearly the entire route, and up over 600% near Bandera Rd. Overall, volume is moderate to heavy along entire route. The section between I-10 and US 281 now exceeds 100,000 vehicles per day, up from a paltry 25,000 in 1990. Recurring congestion occurs during morning and evening peak periods between Bandera Rd. and US 281.

I am sick of the size of the city anyway...

I am moving out to Leakey in a couple years if everything goes to plan.

Traffic blowz here now.. someone tell all the people to leave because Tag
said we are a "small market"... so that means everyone on 1604 get out of
tiny town USA.

Why so far away?

Why not the Medina Lake area or Bandera. Far enough from the city life but close enough to still enjoy it.

I just like the area. North of garner. It's sweet.

And not crowded. Life is slower and sweeter.. I am tired of the grind.

Heavy traffic makes someplace a major market? Really? I guess Austin must be like New York and Los Angeles combined then.

When your infrastructure can only be described as pure shit, your traffic is gonna be bad.

And I may be a retard to you guys, but I believe Oh, Gee was being sarcastic.

What would a thread be without a sarcastically weak insult by Marcus Bryant.

Yay for predictability!

Anyway, here is a chart with net growth numbers for 1604:

Probably because I was asked to because no renderings of the River North project have been made available on the internet.

But the thing is, I have to justify nothing with you. So if you'd please get off by back.

Here's a hint, why not avoid any threads I start? Can't you be mature enough to do that?

Y'all are missing the best part of this! How about TK making a graphic file out of an Excel snippet (whether it came from the city manager forum or not) just so he could toss statistical salad?

That's way more impressive than a mere digital picture of a television set.

The growth between West 410 and 1604 continues to amaze me. My grandparents live on I-10 right outside of the loop near Wurzbach, and I remember when that was basically the edge of town.

ShoogarBear

So, 800K vehicles and 42K vehicles per day on 1604. Assuming each a vehicle gets on 1604 an average of twice per day, thats 21K different vehicles or about 2.5% of all vehicles in San Antonio that use 1604 daily.

I guess I can believe that.

Yea people cry about the economy but this really is a guilded age .. at least here. Look at the decadence in these high end houses. It's like a little roaring 20's Mansion building spree...

One thing I am happy about. Is Toyota is now steering more development out towards the Bandera to south of highway 90 area. Litte more west than north.

I guess you didn't get the sarcasm layered over that post.

Extra Stout

I guess you didn't get the sarcasm layered over that post.Well, typically sarcasm involves saying one thing when the opposite is obviously true.

Since this is the internet and nonverbal cues such as facial expressions, vocal intonations, or gestures cannot be used, very subtle sarcasm is much more difficult to catch. Effective sarcasm when only typed words are available almost has to be "over-the-top," even silly, to be understood.

So, for example, if you were posting pictures of buildings or graphs with traffic counts, and in a particular post you did so with bittersweet thoughts about the effects of sprawl, unless those thoughts are explicitly communicated at some point, neurologically ordinary people will not comprehend your attempts at sarcasm.

What you lack to some degree is something called a "theory of mind." The gist behind that is that other people do not have access to all the same information you do, especially about things like your own mental state, and therefore can have false beliefs about things where you know the truth. In this case, most people would expect that any of your posts about buildings, highways, or development would spring from your usual enthusiasm about those subjects, even if you were not particularly enthusiastic about a specific detail, such as traffic congestion or sprawl.

Remember that while people may tease you endlessly about your difficulty communicating in social situations, you still probably will end up being a very good civil engineer, architect, or urban planner some day, provided you can work alone mostly.

I hope I have been of some help to you.

You can thank the developers for much of the traffic problems. Each subdivision is its own enclave, and the only way to travel to and fro is on a major thruway. It gets worse and worse as you go north in San Antonio, and 1604 is about the only way to get from one place to another that far north. Name any other way that goes west-east. The Wurzbach parkway is nice so far, but 10 miles out of the way.

You can also thank the developers for trying their best to build in the recharge zone and sooner or later, adversely affect the aquifer.

Marcus Bryant
10-26-2005, 09:39 AM
Yep. Those developers are gonna fuck SA up.

Can someone get me a count on the number of 'churches' with big ass billboards on 1604? I can think of at least 3.

Hagee's fortress is such an eyesore.
