What happened? Did he come back from near death?

Pondexter said fluid was drained from his knee and, after a few days, it was discovered he had MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), a skin infection that is difficult to manage and, if not treated properly and promptly, could lead to death. Nobody knew when he developed the infection.

He was immediately taken to surgery to try to flush the infection out of his system. Dr. Williams explained to Pondexter and his family that MRSA tends to cause complications to the healing process of a significant injury.

Following the third procedure on his knee, he was hospitalized for a month.
"I was getting checked on every two hours in the hospital," he said. "I was doing three full bags of liquid antibiotics, which took close to two hours each time. There was a point where I was connected on both sides, whether it was antibiotics or IVs or all types of other medicines to keep me alive. It was pretty crazy. It's a full day, 24 hours, around-the-clock watch over that recovery. You're trying to eliminate an infection that's deadly."

Myisha and family members were by his side in the hospital for the first two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans were suffering their second abysmal year in a row and were on the verge of missing the playoffs again. The DNPs piled up for Pondexter, and some of the team's fans directed their frustration his way without any clue of what he was facing.

"My condition was really hidden because we didn't want anyone to know, and I didn't want anyone to feel sorry for me," he explained. "And when I was in the hospital, I would look on Twitter and see all the nasty comments saying, 'He's stealing money. He's at home chillin' and all this s--. Nah, I'm fighting for my life. I was close to dying."

Hmmm.... some interesting stuff in these vids. Seems impressive enough, but let's see what he'll bring to the preseason, and if he can prove himself there, then it's onward into the regular season, maybe, but I'm not going to hold my breath though... not bad, not bad... GSG!!!

I recall when he was in Memphis. He gave the Spurs problems come playoff time.

Honestly, it's worth the risk for the 14th spot.

Hey Ceperez, you're on point! He's worth the risk! Also, thanks Ace3g for posting that story on QP! That has now given me a whole new perspective on QP with his back story, as well as his battle to recover back to form. Kinda like RG 22's come back story, among other Spurs players who have interesting back stories. So, I'm gonna root for the guy, and hope he does well, and like RG 22, prove everyone that he can still play at a high level in the NBA. I liked his game when he was healthy and playing with NOP. GSG!!!

I like his game when he was healthy, so let's see what he can do. I had no idea what had happened to him. I knew he had a knee injury, but didn't know about that deadly skin infection. I thought it was his knee that had derailed his career. He did show flashes of being a really good player when he was healthy.

There's certainly a chance that Pon makes the team on his own merits, but I want PATFO to burn assets and cap space to get competition for him. If guys like Dangubic and Blossom can't beat out Quincy Pondexter at this point in their careers, there's no hope for them.

I'm sure Spurs will evaluate their SF options. This is not a done deal. If Pon recovers from his old form, he'll be better than at least Blossomgame. Dangubic is intriguing, he doesn't handle the ball well but he's got good size and can shoot 3s. He could be redundant with Bertans though.

I'm rooting though for Metu to get signed. Metu has a ton of upside.

I do get your sentiment. Spurs need to focus on building new talent. Pondexter is the type of player that you sign when your roster is loaded with talent.

I remember some sports writer (not sure if Matt Moore) tweeting a few years back he won't be surprised Pondexter ends up with the Spurs. Bad knee, had a skin infection after a failed microfracture surgery by the Pels staff, but fought through both. Cheesy Spurs fans would probably love him, great passer and teammate, capable shooter.

Metu is likely to sign directly with Austin and spend the year there. Dangubic has seemingly drastically improved as a shooter. I remember when he was drafted, the report on him that he was a very good athlete at 6'8 but could shoot. He's a career 38% 3pt shooter in Euro league, now.

Good defensive role player. 3 and D. He's better than Blossomgame.

Yeah, he definitely was when he was healthy, but hoping that he will regain his form, and be able to play as advertised! Liked his game when he was healthy and playing with NOP, so hopefully he has a chance for redemption. As for Blossomgame, being a rookie, he has lots to work on, still, but there's upside and potential in him that may pay off in time, IF he continues to be proactive with his growth skills and is still with this team. GSG!!!

No ill trash talking here, but he reminds me of a slightly better version of Jaren Jackson when he joined the spurs many moons ago.

Wonderful grab. Very underrated player. If he is healthy, which seems to be the case, he adds a good deal of versatility to the roster.

Good physical defender, can shoot the dead corner 3 ball, off angle 3, and he has a really high release point.

Coming off the bench, he is going to be able to out perform other team's bench players.

He has a good mid post game, but can space the floor well. Not a half bad passer either.

3 and D on the cheap and versatility.

This guy value will far exceed his pay.

In now so I can bump in in 3 months.

Waive him and call up some young players with a chance of improving.

Why is this guy on the team again? He was putting on a dribbling exhibition in garbage time (lost it too) instead of giving it up to Lonnie.

I really suprised that Ben Moore has not been called up he did get playing time with Indiana. It’s not like he has not played good in G League pretty much always close to a double double and fits a need SF.

Exactly, it makes zero sense why this guy is on the team. I would love to hear the thought process on this one.
