Pretty sad how Amuseddaysleeper tries to downplay Ronaldo's impact in every post. Just accept that Real is struggling without him, easy as that.

Again, if Ronaldo is replaced with a Cavani type scorer they'd do much better.

Ronaldo has ONE goal in CL this year, it's not like Juventus are doing amazing in CL with him. Of course he would've helped Madrid, but as I've said many times, it's not just Ronaldo leaving which would obviously hurt any team, it's Ronaldo getting ZERO replacement.

That's the MUCH bigger issue.

They will need to implement sideline technology.

He needs to go whatever the outcome will be.

Get rid of Bale, Casemiro, Modric for the start.

Bring in Hazard, Icardi and maybe Eriksen.

An above angle would have been nice. One angle it looked way out, the other angle was close. Stay with the original call was ok.

Dude, not even a combination of all the GOATS put together would salvage this team. Florentino just didn't give a fuck about this season for some reason. Not replacing Ronaldo was proof number one, giving head coaching job to Solari was just the icing on the cake.

You're the absolute mong who calls Messi a spectator. Absolute idiot take after idiot take.

Now that you're precious Ronaldo is declining you have nothing left to say.

You are wrong on so many levels with just about everything. Imagine calling a 4 time CL winner a choker, when outside of the bad Roma loss every other team they lost to went on to the Finals.

And again, Ronaldo got SCORCHED everytime he faced Messi, whether it's the league of CL.

Ronaldo was constantly outshined over 70% of the time.

Sucks you'll have no one else to talk up with Ronaldo no longer being relevant in a famrer's league.

True but Ronaldo carried those Madrid teams to the finals the last years, simple as that. Two times he got help in the final, also true.

The thing is, if you look back during the 2017 year especially I gave Ronaldo credit.

But I don't see him as the best player in the world but I don't doubt that without Madrid don't get to those finals.

But I absolutely think he can get almost too much credit seeing as how the memorable CL moments came from Bale and Ramos in recent years.

He's an amazing player, I even paid to see him last October. It's like Kobe, I hate Kobe but I'd still pay to see him and did.

But even this year, Madrid conceding 4 has more to do with Ramos being gone than Ronaldo.

Madrid scored 3 times, that's normally enough to go through a 2 legged tie, but I agree losing Ronaldo hurts, just not replacing with anybody was much much dumber.

Serie A has been won 7 years in a row, it’s like psg winning the French league.

They’re on pace to win the least amount of trophies they’ve
Won in over half a decade. I agree Juventus aren’t in as bad shape as Madrid overall, but formronaldo where he only shows up in CL unless it’s a final then he’s become kinda irrelevant as he is in a one horse league.

Not sure who replaced James, Cristiano, Morata, Kovacic and Pepe. Since the 2016/2017 season Florentino has been diluting the talent, it doesn't came as surprise Madrid can't compete with Barça or any good Euro team, not even at the Bernabeu. Three consecutive loses at the Bernabeu, getting eliminated from the Copa, the Champions and without chances in the Ligue too. With this roster not even Zidane could do something, much less Mourinho.

Is there a more overrated thing in soccer than "the home advantage in the Second leg"?

Especially in KO stages of CL: European pitches/atmospheres are almost the same these days. And with the introduction of VAR, refereeing bias effect has been reduced significantly. Let's just scrap the archaic away goals rule and have the two team go at it for 180 (or 210) minutes..

Nah, the away goals rule is fine to avoid penalties and teams settling for boring stretches of football.

For example: if United scores one more goal, without the away goals rule the series would be tied. United would definitely park the bus and PSG would maybe try to go for the win but they wouldn't go all in either because they know they wouldn't be getting eliminated, thing which could happen if they get caught with a counter. So, what would happen is both teams would be playing it safe for the rest of regulation and ET, which would result in a snoozefest for the spectators.

With the away goals rule we know we are action either way. If Manu doesn't score soon, they will have to go all in to try to get that goal. If Manu does score soon, the ones going all in would be PSG.

I do agree that playing the second game at home isn't much of an advantage with this rule.

MU, even with their first team, is not as technically gifted.

PSG arrogance was on display.
The shame of having to boot the ball out of the back, it’s too much for them.
So they bring it up in the face of early pressure and gift a goal.
They don’t try to win, they try to nutmeg.

They lost to a mid field full of shiny happy kids. Who listen to orders.
PSG was clearly the more talented team.

Had one good CL final performance and he’s the GOAT, Messi average performance in the CL final is far better than. ronaldo’s CL final.

But yeah, Ronaldo scores in the quarter finals so he’s better.

When gone head to head Messi always outshone Ronaldo.

Ramos and Bale were always the ones to carry Madrid over the hump when Ronaldo stopped showing up. He was awful in 2014, 2016 and 2018 CL finals, didn’t even score after the quarters last year. His teammates always show up.

Ronaldo is a better CL knockout player than Messi in recent years, but on the biggest stage Ronaldo was a ghost 75% of the time.

Honestly, I'm just going back and forth with Bynumite's outlandish takes on Messi. Truth is I do think Ronaldo is ONE of the all time greats, and you could certainly argue the greatest CL performer of all time.

He is absolutely a beast in the knockouts. And another CL with a third team would be incredible.

Will have to see if it actually happens. CL looks wide open this year.

And I absolutely agree with you about Simeone's tactics. For a guy running around and grabbing his balls a few weeks he came into this game with the biggest pussy tactics since Valverde's pathetic display against Roma last year.

Absolutely shameful from Atletico.

Also, as great as Ronaldo was, a lot of credit should also be given to the rest of the team. Especially Beneducci.

If the game was already 4-1 by the time Barca got the penalty, it wouldn't have made a difference but that wasn't the case, that was the opening goal. Up until that point it was still 0-0 in the 2nd leg of a KO stage, of course the 1-0 for Barca is gonna change the dynamic of the game and open up things for them. Barca was still struggling to score until the 80 min mark, who knows what happens if they had one less goal at that point and Lyon the upper hand.

Bottom line is Barca was offered the advantage in the eliminatory on a bad call. In previous seasons, there was at least the element of human error. Like Ronaldo's 2nd goal most likely wouldn't have stood if not for goal line technology. Now with VAR in place, there's absolutely no reason for bad calls like the barca penalty to still happen.

But that's VARcelona for you, even with human error out of the picture and the ability to review penalty calls, they still get bad calls to go their way :lol

So we really acting like Barca wasn't eliminated by Roma just last season after choking a 4-1 lead? :lol

I can see them beating United but Liverpool's front trio should feast against a Barca defense that has a tendency for brain farts.

For instance, in Lyon's goal Barca players completely failed to clear the ball on 3 separate ball disputes inside their box.

Didn't United beat PSG missing like half it's roster? Haven't they been on fire ever since Solskjaer took over? I don't know why you think it will be an easy tie for the most mediocre Barcelona of the Messi era, tbh.

PSG were missing two of their top 3 players. And thoroughly outplayed united in that second leg. United just got their ass handed to them by Arsenal.

If that psg tie was to get played again wth Cavani and Neymar missing psg would go through. United had like 3 goals off of 4 shots, very fluky.

United have has several jammy results especially in the Tottenham game where de Gea went mental.

I haven’t even made any predictions, simply that United aren’t as good as some people may think. I’d take this years Barca team over last year no question.

Should Barca face Liverpool, it may get ugly for Barca.

The same Liverpool team that's 6-5-2 in all competitions over their last 13 games (draws against Everton, West Ham and Leicester City, Loss to Wolves)? If that's a series that could get ugly for Barcelona, they don't deserve to be in the Champions League quarterfinals to begin with. I can't even remember when last year's hero Mo Salah scored a goal for Liverpool. They're basically being carried by Van Dijk.

United probably did Barca a favor by knocking out PSG and the best player on the planet Mbappe. That could have been ugly for Barcelona. United is a giant step from Lyon especially defensively so slightly overrated or not, they're more than capable of upsetting Barcelona.

Disagree. Better than Lyon for sure, but defensively they are worse than Barca. United are going to struggle against Messi and Dembele. Barca’s midfield is significantly better.

And I don’t think Barca will win CL. Hope I’m wrong, but Liverpool are a whole tier above united.

After Roma, anything is possible, but I’d say it’s 70/30 to Barca to beat united. The psg result was jammy as hell.

Barcelona didn't even score at Lyon and with 75 minutes left in the 2nd leg, Lyon were a goal away from taling the lead on away goals. United isn't a possession team so it gives people the illusion that they're getting dominated. PSG had the ball but didn't have a ton of quality chances. De Gea is one of the best goalies in the world and United has tightened up their defense since Mou's firing. It should be a low scoring affair with Barcelona controlling possession. Lukaku and Pogba are more than capable of superceding Coutihno and Dembele. Messi will be Messi but as PSG found out, having the best player on the pitch doesn't guarantee victory, and this is coming from a guy who prefers Barceloa to beat United.

Barca DOMINATED Lyon over both legs. Lyon literally looked good for 25 minutes out of 180. Barca are better at just about every area of the pitch over United. The only area is GK which is a coin toss and probably favor De Gea.

United just don't create enough chances. Barca, unlike last year in CL, have been creating a crazy amount of chances. I do wish they could be more clinical as it's frustrating to play Lyon off the pitch in the first leg and only gave a 0-0 to show for it.

Lukaku is an absolute bottler and their backline leaves a lot to be desired. Ole has done a wonderful job with them but while I expect the game at Old Trafford to be close I think Barca will wreck the hell out of them at Camp Nou.

If it's anything less than a 3-1 after both legs then the board would legit need to overhaul half this roster.

United and Porto were the two teams I wanted most. I think Ajax would've been tougher than United personally. United are jammy as hell, but certainly better than they were when they had Mou.

Wouldn't say they got their 'ass handed' if you exclude the first 20 min. Lukaku pulled a Lukaku with his chances and Arsenal also benefited from a dodgy penalty and a DDG error. No clue why they didn't start Martial (then took him off if fitness was an issue).

Not sure if this is in response to the Wolves beating United in the FA Cup but the league cups are generally viewed around England as gimmick cups. I'm pretty sure De Gea in net would have stopped both Wolves goals from happening. The Wolves are also a very tough out at home. They're capable of beating anyone if you take them lightly.

Oh, hey look, Juventus lost to Genoa 2-0 in Serie Z and Look out Champions league, Liverpool just squeaked by Fulham 2-1, arguably the worst team in ther EPL, thanks to a Mane flop in the penalty box. Be scared! Be very scared!

This is a very good side when they get intense against good competition.

Mane flop? No way. Liverpool were not good but the foul was a good call.

Spurs are out immediately unless they try something very different.

I have hardly have confidence in Barca, I don't rate Valverde highly at all. I thought last year's team was one of the 2-3 worst Barca teams of the decade.

I just think United were playing over their heads and are coming back down to earth. If you can't at least have confidence against a mediocre United squad then Barca should overhaul half the roster.

I still don't think they'll get past Liverpool or City. Our defense can be exposed against those teams. And Pep and Klopp are better than Valverde. They've been brutal in CL in recent years but I'd take last year's Roma, Juventus and Atletico all over this United team.

The Roma tie was a humiliating choke, don't get me wrong. But even that Roma team fought back in the SF to be one goal from making it to the UCL Final.

It's bizarre how some people in here vastly overrate this United squad. There is no way this tie is 50-50. It'll be close at OT, and then Camp Nou Barca will bust it open hopefully.

I think United beating Barca over two legs would be a bigger upset than Ajax over Madrid. Madrid had been poor all season.

Speaking of coming back down to earth, Liverpool have been the definition of mediocre since January. Liverpool were a product of Mo Salah last season and this season, they're a product of Van Dijk. If you don't have confidence that Barca can beat Liverpool, What makes you think they should dominate United?

They bowed out of three straight champions league QFs all of which they were favored (Athletico, Juve, Roma) so a United win might come as a surprise but certainly not inconceivable..

I agree with you that Liverpool have looked out of sorts for many months now. That Fulham game was brutal. Maybe the pressure of them trying to win the league is getting to them, or teams have started to figure Salah out a lot more. On the flip side I'll take Mane's form over anyone at United right now. But I'm sure United will play better than they did vs. Wolves and Arsenal.

I know Barca has choked in recent CL's, I don't think even think they'll win this year's CL, though I hope to be proven wrong.

However, Atletico and Juventus went on to the finals. Atletico nearly won both of their CL's, one match being a late Ramos header and the other going to penalties. Had Griezmann not missed his penalty during the first 90 minutes then who knows how the 2016 one goes down.

Juventus had conceded the least amount of goals at a record pace heading into the 2017 Final. They had a halftime implosion, but going into that match, along with both of those Atletico teams you definitely had some genuinely good teams Barca lost to. Not just some random no name underdogs.

As for Roma, I think last year's team was MUCH better than this year's Roma squad. They had some dumb tactics in the first leg against Liverpool but came back to being within a goal of advancing to the Final. That one still stings as a Barca fan, but my god were Valverde's tactics (much like Simeone this year) beyond awful in that second leg. Trying to turn Barca into a hyper defensive/park the bus team for 80 minutes (until he finally subbed on Dembele, by which point it was too late) was really pathetic.

I'd take all of those teams comfortably over this year's United squad. United's best hope is to keep a clean sheet at OT (doubt that will happen, Lyon was extremely lucky to have not conceded in the first leg) and then try to win by virtue of away goals in the second leg.

Outside of De Gea, United are a trainwreck defensively and their midfield leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe with Matic back Pogba plays forward a little more again and Martial stays healthy but in regards to their attack it leaves a lot to be desired. I still can't trust Lukaku right now.

Dembele will most likely miss the first leg which is huge for United. He would've had a field day going up against United's right flank. I hope Valverde gives Malcolm another chance but Dembele should be out and Suarez has an ankle injury right now but hopefully should be ready for the first leg.

I know it sounds like I'm making United come off as some second division team but I just don't think they'll be able to beat Barca. I think a 50-50 tie sounds crazy to me. But it is the CL.

I think Liverpool have struggled but I don't think this is who they are, Salah won't be this bad forever and Mane is out of his mind in great form. Firminio is great and Klopp loves to pressure and hit teams on the counter which is a weakness of Barca.

I hope I'm proven wrong about Barca's CL chances, let's see what happens.

Either way, I'm hoping it's a fun tie against United. Haven't played them in so many years.
