They had a peace agreement in place and ready to be signed under Barak. Yassir Arafat backed out. Hundreds of millions of dollars were on the line for Arafat. He also thrived personally under the conflict. We still have not found where all his money, meant for Palestinians, went.

I believe the deal you mention did not include Right of Return for Palestinians. Which was a deal breaker for Arafat

The Right of Return would have allowed the thousands of expelled palestinians and many who lived and still live in refugee camps to return to their land.

The Palestinian population had grown enormously. There was a mechanism to absorb more than any other time.
This was a huge chance lost. Israel is not the only country that does not want Palestinians. There was actually agreement and money for land from other countries for the first time.

Arafat stole money from his own people after he became comfy not being a fighter.

The would have got concessions on 75% right of return at least. Much better deal than American Indians.

Hindsight definitely says take the deal.

This is my contention.

Israel has turned completely intransigent. They now have the goal of no Arabs as citizens in any elections. A Jewish State where you must be Jewish to be a citizen. This is exactly what Hezbollah and Hamas want so the funding goes on for the leaders. Then continue to use Palestinians et al as fodder. The organizations have become comfortable havens for higher ups who probably deal with Israel anyway. It’s totally rotten and going nowhere. Israel has become comfortable with rockets here and there. And they are basically free to strike Syria if things get out of hand under Russia’s watch. We have already seen this. Basically permission to bomb Syria if needed.

Totally agree.
BB is absolutely brutal. If Israel was not a democracy he might have gotten rid of all the opposition in Israel. He definitely would have shut down the press that continues to criticize him in Israel like Hareetz. The Jewish organizations that work with the Palestinians getting them lawyers and such would be gone. But ultimately they must vote him out. So the rockets etc will continue and so might the Israeli conservatives as they need violent opposition for votes.
