Good news for Texas, but doesn't really change the reality that they need to win out in their scheduled games plus the Big XII title game to be in the national title game. At least it looks like they won't face the prospect of being leapfrogged by another team in the BCS.

I think that is obvious, because any loss and they are out of the title game.

Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated in this forum.

Curious that beating Texas Tech -- a team proclaimed by so many around here to either suck or not be very good -- has paid off handsomely for the Horns, who are now perceived to have smacked around a highly-rated team (mitigating the effect of Ohio State's fall in the polls).

USC certainly did nothing this weekend to lose votes. So UT's rise must signal a change in perception about the Horns.

Even if Texas fans think Tech sucks or is overrated, it's lucky for them that the voters thought the win over Tech actually carried some weight.

I think holding that high powered Tech offense to only 17 points was a pretty big factor. Also, USC hasn't proven jack! They are slipping by some pretty bad teams. Their only true test was against Notre Dame, and they should have lost. Texas has been consistant the whole season (so far). Plus, they beat 2 top 10 teams. I think USC will lose to either UCLA or Cal before its all over.

Doesn't guarantee they would win though.

This is why we need a playoff....end all the questions.

FromWayDowntown
10-24-2005, 05:13 PM
It's going to get really, really sticky if Georgia and Alabama somehow reach the SEC title game undefeated (I don't think they play each other). If that happens, one of them will have to emerge from the SEC undefeated and if that team gets shut out of the national championship game, it will be 2 years in a row that an undefeated SEC champ is denied the opportunity to play for the title (and almost 3, given that Oklahoma playing LSU was no gimme at the end of the season two years ago). I can't imagine that the powers that be in the SEC will be very keen on that idea -- those teams play brutal schedules and the idea that the undefeated champion of that league doesn't deserve a shot is hard to comprehend.

Virginia Tech will have the same argument because of the strength of the ACC.

If you have 4 undefeateds and the 2 that come from, arguably, the 2 best conferences in college football aren't playing for the title, the system has a major flaw.

samikeyp
10-24-2005, 05:18 PM
Personally I think the system is already flawed.

Texas will be #1 this week, it will go back to SC next week.

I thought the computers sucked last year with everything that went down, this only confirms it even more.

If you haven't lost a game for two years, are working on your third title, you should be #1 until you lose.

Not really. People who are texas fans knew tech sucked and knew tex would own them. People who run the polls thought the latter. Two seperate groups.

Make it happen, CBF!

Doesn't matter who is #1 and who is #2. I don't see either of these teams losing, and they are clearly the top 2 teams in the nation. VT, UGA, and Bama might have arguments come the end of the season - but USC and UT look to be in a class of their own, although USC is riding their history. I'd probably agree Texas is the best team in the nation right now, though it pains me to say it.

Thanks man that's all I wanted to hear.

Cuz I'm one of the biggest skeptics and pessimists I know...but after the last two college football weekends, I have to say I'm very confident about a possible USC game.

But...what if USC is really so bad ass that they're making their games seem close, just to fool Texas? What if Leinart fumbled on purpose?
Reggie Bush seems to defy reality with some of the shit he pulls off.

This will be an excellent college football season overall, when it's all said and done.

When Virginia Tech beats Boston College this week, and then wins the ACC championship game, they will bump USC to the 3 spot and that would mean that USC would be on the outside looking in in the Nat Championship game. If that does not give rise to a playoff system, nothing will. I hope that happens, because the BCS would explode.

IF VTech gets by both Miami and BC, and IF USC can get by Cal, Fresno, and UCLA, Texas may be on the outside looking in. A lot will also depend on how each of the respective teams' opponents do, too. My gut feeling is that VTech and USC will each lose one before the end of the regular season.

Never take a&m for granted at Kyle Filed, NEVER. I can think of nothing more pleasing for a&m fans than for them to end the season by beating the #1-2 team in the nation, also in the process ending a five year losing streak. UT just needs to stay focused on the game at hand, and we'll worry about a&m on T+1. I do think if we play our game we should handle a&m without too many problems, just can't overlook them our get caught up in thinking about a MNC game.

^ God, I hope you're right. You've got to understand, I've been watching and attending UT games since 1981. My last memory of UT having this good a shot at potentially winning a national championship was 1983 when we lost to fucking Georgia at the Cotton Bowl, a game we should have won. So, when I see us ranked #1 in the BCS I begin to get those little voices in the back of my head........................"remember 1983.....remember 1983.....remember 1983". It's very disturbing.

I will vote for anyone named Bush for the rest of my life regardless.

What do we have to lose? As long as they're governor of a major state, surely the name Bush qualifies them as a good leader :tu

Red and yellow?

Man Dre 7 must be retarded when it comes to college football either that or he is way too much into USC.....cause seroiusly...there is no way in hell Texas is going to lose in the Championship game....they havent been to the big show in how many years??? With Vince Young manning the quarterback position there will be no end to the possibilities.....just simply as Michigan....

No, I am not retarded. I am not a USC fan either. I am just not so much of a UT homer that I think they will blow out USC. :lol

White will make a bigger splash than Bush if USC plays Texas. Bush is electric, but Texas can bottle him up. Tlong loves his big brother USC. Oregon state sucks.

??? Did you see the Ohio State game? No they can't, at least not on special teams.

This is the t-sipper's biggest weakness, and something they will have to address if they get that far.

Okay, he may make a dent in special teams, but that will be his biggest impact. I meant that they will bottle him up on offense. Also, he will have to do his damage on kick returns because I don't see them punting more than 5 times.

Oregon State will get a bowl game this year...but basically you are right, they are an average college football team this year.

I would definitely root for USC over Texas. Pac-10 RULES!
