It’s going to be another long season. Who do you think we should target in the lottery?

Why not, we aren't winning anything this year anyway.

Might as well trade DeRozan. Y'all a playoffs team with DD. One game, let's not overreact.

I know you’re a Raps fan but know that our starting PG is out for the year, his backup is out for a few months and the backup of the backup is also out. It’s not a one game thing. :lol
We also traded and lost most of our defense too through trades or free angency.

I'm seriously thinking of turning over the TT a couple of months earlier than I have in previous years (meaning probably on this side of New Year's). I'll start small. Give me five guys you want PATFO to draft in the first round (talking to the floor here), and I'll start filling up the database.

Too early for me to think about this other than a funny thread but if things were to go south quickly I am sure I’ll have a wondering eye. Last season if you recall they still did well up until all star break when the dysfunction with Kawhi got bad, the team lost focus every time he thought he was going to come back, and Pop had to sit LMA with that bad knee while Joff sucked. That’s when they really went on a losing skid (Danny with that sore groin worsening and it showed too). Anyways that’s the past but the point is that things didn’t look poorly until late in the season.
We shall see what happens this tonight was just one game.

Spurs have had sustained excellence for around 2 decades now. If they miss the playoffs it's nothing to hang your head over. 2 injuries to key players in the NBA preseason and plus the loss of Parker, Manu, Kawhi, Green.
Yeah if they can't get a playoff spot it shouldn't be a surprise really even if Pop is the head coach. They have a playoff team on paper so if they have an off year, retool and come back swinging next season. Off years happen in the NBA, just hasn't happened to Spurs in quite awhile.
The front offices and coaching staffs goal is obviously to make the playoffs, this team will play teams hard and fight every game. I am expecting them to get in the playoffs but it's not going to be a surprise if they can't make it this season.

Rudy may be hurt again after his great pre-season as well.
Just tank and get Sekou. Have Parker "talk" to him so that he re-signs with us past RFA.

Is Zion really that good? Seems massively undersized to me.
Anyway, as I continue to plan for the new draft thread, has anyone found any good reliable replacement for DX yet? Someone last year mentioned The Ringer. Ideally, I'd like a site that at least makes a report on guys with a legit chance to be drafted in either round. NBADraft.net does this, but that's a very weird site. Tankaton is nice because they give highlights and some thoughtless numerical comparisons. I never got too into The Stepien, because it lacked profiles on a lot of prospects. RealGM has a wide array of stats, especially for international players. But it has no depth at all. Just hate what ESPN has done to DraftExpress, even if it was financially good for the guys involved.

I don't know about Zion, I just wanted to rhyme
The Stepien might be a lot worse/collapse this year after one of the guys got hired by the 76ers
Hardwood Homies podcast might be the next alternative, but I don't know if they do a lot of written stuff for easy accessiblity. Plus the main guy is like 19, so his scouting acumen might be limited

undersized?............. zion looks like a monstar from space jam & hes already dominated against pro teams
He’s listed as one inch shorter and 35 pounds heavier than LeBron James.
He is the same height and only 10 pounds lighter than Julius Peppers, the Hall of Fame defensive end who amassed 154.5 career NFL sacks.
He is two inches taller and 15 pounds heavier than Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 overall NFL draft (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-draft) pick and defensive end for the Houston Texans.
He has 15 pounds on DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/players/101096/demarcus-cousins), despite Cousins being listed as four inches taller.
He is the same weight as Brock Lesnar, who is four inches shorter.

I think Randle has shown that undersized, burly athletes with skills have a place in the new NBA
Zion shouldn't be any worse than Randle and Randle is a part of the fastest paced big man rotation maybe ever.

Wonder if he'll stay in the draft this time. He lost money by staying, but he might struggle to be a first-rounder if the comes out this time. I'd still draft him with the Toronto pick. They need to attack the front court in a similar way to how they attacked the back court. Just keep drafting guys until someone sticks. They should use their natural pick on a wing, though.

We're talking about a high lottery pick though, not signing Zion in free agency. He needs to have star upside, not just "a place in the new NBA". I actually liked Randle quite a bit, so the comparison itself doesn't bother me. But if the team is up there in the range to pick Zion, they need to come away with a franchise player.

It was his MCL and ACL as far as I saw.
The only thing with keeping on drafting injury prone guys is they may not end up with anyone they will give them minutes. What point is talent if it can't stay on the court?

I actually think they should trade both picks for a higher pick wich would probably be in the 12-16 range. Better chance of getting a player with a higher ceiling. And it should be a SF that can defend.

SA Girl you are correct it was his ACL and MCL that we’re torn. Man his family has terrible injuries definitely has to be something genetic:
Bri Porter - 5 Torn ACL
Cierra Porter - Mutiple Knee Sugeries - Medically retired
Michael Porter - Two back surgeries
Jontay Porter - Torn MCL and ACL

To me it depends on what draft picks we have if can can get
8 to 13 and Toronto stumbles and gives us a 20 to 22
pick then I think we stay pat. That should get us a stud at Center Or SF and second pick should get a very good player be it PF, SF, Center

This draft seems very shallow in talent from everything I've read about it, as early as it is. Luckily there are a lot of quality SFs , which is the biggest Spurs need so they may look at someone dropping to their spot, but if the picks are in the 20s they may not keep both. I expect them to shop the Toronto pick around the deadline for an upgrade at PG anyway.

A lot depends who comes out early but you are right a lot of SF will be available in the draft my bet is;
1st Pick:
Daniel Gafford Center Ht: 6’11 Wing: 7’0
Kris Wilks SF HT: 6’8 Wing 6’10
O’Shae Brisset SF HT: 6’8 Wing 6’11
D’Andre Hunter SF HT: 6’7 Wing 7’0
2nd Pick:
Rui Hachimura SF HT; 6’8 Wing 7’2
Sagabe Konate PF HT 6’8 Weight 250
Luka Samanic PF HT: 6’10 Wing 7’0
I would use a trade to bring in a decent seasoned Vet PG anyone better then Mills and Forbes.

Not every draft has a franchise player.
In that case, getting a rich man's Randle might be the best plausible outcome.
To compare, what little I've seen of RJ Barrett hasn't impressed me at all. Maybe another Harrison Barnes?

Decent chance this guy falls to a range where the Spurs could pick him now.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25074140/rich-paul-darius-bazley-1-million-internship-result-broken-system
NBA agent and Klutch Sports co-founder Rich Paul called the choice of top prospect Darius Bazley to forgo college and opt for a $1 million shoe-company internship the product of a broken system, saying Wednesday the on-court component of the next seven months was "the one thing that we were missing."
Bazley, ranked the No. 13 prospect in the 2018 by ESPN, decommitted from Syracuse in March and said he planned to play in the NBA's G League. This week, he again changed course, landing a first-of-its-kind, three-month job with New Balance, a deal Paul brokered.
It might seem silly to think PATFO would want someone who forewent a year of basketball, but they supposedly cared about Murray's high-school tape a lot more than his college tape. So they could make a decision on a guy like Bazley even without him playing, provided they get to see him work out. If he was ranked 13 before the season, I think he could drop into the high-20s easily. Seems like a worthwhile gamble. Dude has a lot of skills, but his tape is of the Thon Maker/Ryan Richards variety.

waste 2yrs develop the rookie, then kick him to the curb to rot on the bench or another team
as long the culture is still here, pop/patfo will stick with vets and favorite sons of bitches...
