The good for the Spurs 3 games into the season? They have the 2nd best offense in the league (117.6 PP/100).The bad? They have the 28th ranked defense (117.2 PP/100)
That super duper Spurs' defensive system better show up at some point, so that we can at least be middle of the pack.

Honestly, DDR looked gassed in the 4th/OT. Not that it completely excuses his poor play but we were going through him the whole night and he just noticeably didn't have the lift on his shots late in the game.

We just need Walker and White to get back ASAP.
And pray to god we can do something defensively.
I think White can potentially be a capable defender this season, that would certainly help out. DDR'S playing 39 minutes a game, thus far, he'll definitely get rest games in which Walker may end up starting .

Demar was a beast for 3 and a half quarters. He then ran out of gas. The W makes his game a very good one overall though.
He may have ran out of gas but his offensive possessions were predictable, go to the rim, pump fake, look for a bail out call if he doesn't get it = gets rejected or completely misses the shot. LMA was gassed as well but at least he had good possessions, just missed FTs.

In his defense he played the entire 4th quarter plus overtime, and finished with more minutes than anyone else on the floor, yet still managed to be aggressive to the very end. Unfortunately it made him play out of control for those crucial possessions, and made matters worse that he wasn't getting any calls. Still played a hell of a game overall.
Also, impressive performance from Cunningham. Defended Lebron well and had a game high 12 rebounds.

:lmao what a couple of loser teams with some loser chokejobs tbh
damn :lol
I swear LMA and DD have high fived more in 3 games than LMA and Nephew did in 3 years.
Maybe because DDR actually knows how to pass the ball? He had more assists in two of the three games (9 and 14) this year than Kawhi ever had as a Spur (7, four times). Offensively, this team is going to be fun to watch. Much better than taking turns on ISO ball. And pretty efficient too so far!
Defensively it’s going to be a train wreck but a lot of that has to do with no size at the 1 or 2. Penetration the PG are allowing results in bigs having to rotate over and giving up easy looks and offensive boards. Guys didn’t stay home with corner shooters tonight either.

Who else felt their heart sink the moment Mills rose up for that last shot?
I was sure it wasn't going in. It looked like it was off even as it was going in somehow. :lol It wasn't a "clean swish," it was one of those makes that clanks in and would've missed if it were 1 mm further off center.
But I'll be damned, the shot went in.
Edit: After watching replay, it was actually pretty clean. The cognitive bias to expect Mills to miss apparently altered my perception. :lol

He does put the effort in but a guard with average size and length, plus a lack of athleticism can only do so much on that end.
Offensively though, he's been solid 10-21 from 3 through the first 3 games and almost 15ppg-that's about all we can really hope for.

Derozan should have hadd 17 assists. LMA missed 3 wide open j's that he usually makes. DeRozan vs Oladipo should have a great match up next game. Let's go spurs.
DeRozan should easily win player of the week awards if he puts up another big game. He had 6 player of the week awards last season. Unfortunately after his monster 52 point game against the Bucks, he fell off completely due to depression or something like that.

I'd give LeBron a pass if he were playing another Western Conference squad with an established roster but the Spurs revamped the team arguably more than the Lakers did. They can say they played without Rondo and Ingram but the Spurs were without Murray and White. Lead was razor thin so it could've been anyone's ball game. It didn't help that DeRozan faded down the stretch. Amazing stat line, but I hope he learns to take charge in clutch situations. Glad the Spurs have some vets with championship experience; I won't be averse to having Mills or Belinelli take the big shots while Aldridge and DeRozan score in bunches.
Too lazy to quote DeRozan's stats choking against the Cavaliers. Will post some other time.

LeBron called a timeout when they didn't have any before he shot the game-tying 3. That's a technical and the Lakers lose. He should thank the refs for that alone.
Forbes got fouled by LeBron on the missed 3-pointer, Hart stepped out of bounds, McGee bearhugged Forbes on the Kuzma dunk, I could go on and on. The Lakers got some home cooking, besides that we only scored 2+ points off of free throws cause we missed like 10. So Walton doesn't have a point here. He's just scared Tyron Lue might have his job soon

You’re gonna pretend he hasn’t been disappearing with the Raptors?
I don't care who he was or what reputation he had in Toronto. You remember what Diaw's reputation was with the Bobcats (the worst team in the league at the time) before he was cut? You remember how he looked with us? All I care about is how they do in silver/black. It's a new beginning and the time to build a new reputation. Thus far, he's already doing that by proving he's an elite playmaker.

well I'm rooting for him and I hope he does't let the ghosts of Choking's past get the best of him the next 2 seasons.

people seem to forget that Kyle Lowry is a big time choker as well. Toronto always lost game 1 cause it was a given Lowry would shit the bed. I think that rubbed off on him too. Demar being put in Popovich sets with Spurs around him and Lowry gone? I think he'd do much better here in the playoffs than he did on the Raptors. Besides that LeBron won't guard him like he used to and he should improve on D here.
The real closer on this team shold be "No, not this guy" Rudy Gay

LeBron called a timeout when they didn't have any before he shot the game-tying 3. That's a technical and the Lakers lose. He should thank the refs for that alone.
Forbes got fouled by LeBron on the missed 3-pointer, Hart stepped out of bounds, McGee bearhugged Forbes on the Kuzma dunk, I could go on and on. The Lakers got some home cooking, besides that we only scored 2+ points off of free throws cause we missed like 10. So Walton doesn't have a point here. He's just scared Tyron Lue might have his job soon
tried so hard to give him his first win and guy couldn't deliver lol. The refusal to give up their young guys not looking good at the moment especially with the Raptors starting 4-0.

Dead last in pace too, not that has anything to do with defense, but to give up 124 points per game while being dead last pace is shocking haha

I wonder if Pop has nightmares about this when he sleeps at night, considering he values defense more than offense. Hopefully he can improve some of it through coaching although the personell is not ideal

No nightmares for Pop -- he loves to see things (like defense) he can improve.
He's got a team playing fairly well with huge potential for improvement in an area he understands so well.
He fears things he can't improve.

Much easier than improving an offense with no scorers . . .

Except guys usually take time to get their legs under them. 3 games in + the season starting earlier? makes perfect sense.
That wasn't the problem. He was forcing the issue looking for calls. All he has to do is do what he did all game... Just probe and dissect. He played with a lot of poise and patience. Then when the game got on the line, it's like he forgot everything he did all game and made what appeared to be forced drives to the basket when it just wasn't clearly there. Pop helping him to overcome this will be key for our ceiling. Pop needs to be the DeMar whisperer tbh.

Kemba Walker is a FA at seasons end. Maybe if Charlotte loses a lot of games, he becomes available at the deadline. Not a great defender, but decent enough to put Forbes and Paddy to shame.

Pop lost his best defender last year (Leonard) but had Murray, Green, and Anderson. This is a valid question, given the small sample size indicates there's a lot of work to be done.

some TOR fans on Twitter were surprised DeMar was capable of actually beating LeBron. Says a lot about what they think of him especially on crunch time. It's most likely a mental/killer instinct issue, hopefully it gets fixed one way or another.

He was tired by the 4th, yet looked to attack inside. That was a very good sign tbh , most would settle for jumpers. Falls on pop for not giving him a breather. Demar played 17min straight.

Pop seems to have transitioned to an offense-above-defense coach in the very season that the NBA has become a defense-optional league.

Yes, I agree. But he is a whole 3 games into his Spurs career and already has a career high assists game under his belt. I would add that almost had a triple double, too; however, in this new NBA, triple doubles will be depreciated severely.

Prolly was tired, but jumpers aren't the only alternative. He needed to continue with the passing game that had already netted him a new career high in that department.

Hoping the Spurs culture can remedy this. I'm very confident the team and Pop can. If he can get over his yips, as well as improve his D, we could be really good. He's a lot more well rounded offensively then Kawhi and is a much better fit for our team and modern basketball. The ball has been moving. We are averaging like 30 assists per game. The flow is great. We just got to surround him with some people that can lock down on D and shoot with range.

Well he should have two perimeter players that enhance the defense back within a few weeks or so. That should hopefully improve not only half court but also our piss poor transition D.

Yeah I didn't want to take anything away from him, he had an amazing game, but I'm concerned about Raptors DeMar and in the playoffs. You can change teams all you want but this type of issue isn't laziness or lack of effort, it's mental. He has to overcome this. I believe Pop and crew can help him with his demons and if that's the case we could be dangerous. It's all that's keeping him from superstar status. He's got the game, now he just has to become a closer. Right now we have two beta and a halves. We need an alpha for late game situations. That was actually Manu last lol.

I'm not buying that for one second man. This is documented. Ask a Raptor fan. I love what DeMar can do but, he doesn't need excuses bro. He was choking hard as they say. He was a different player. He lost his poise and patience and was bull rushing the rim begging for calls. I'm not trying to take anything away from, I just know he needs to work on keeping his composure so when the real dance begins he doesn't do the same thing he did in Toronto.

Lesson for him: Watch film and learn.
He will be here whether he shits himself in the playoffs or not IMO (see Lamarcus). Stars are not easy to replace anyways, so I hope for the best. They have all season to figure that out too.
