View Full Version : Anyone else miss the Duncan era defense?

Spurs were ranked #1 on defense in the NBA roughly half the years from 1997-2016, including in the championship season of 1999 and Duncan's final season of 2016.

Duncan was arguably the #1 best player on defense throughout his career, 'till the wheels fell off, in NBA history.

The 19 years Duncan played in the NBA with the Spurs was by a thousand landslides the most dominant stretch of basketball on defense for a single franchise in basketball history, and perhaps sports history.

Without him, the defense has looked like garbage.

Pitiful, really......

Huh? I haven't watched a minute of a single Spurs game all year. Never particularly liked DeMar DeRozan. Frankly, I barely care about basketball these days. I just look at the scores these days and call it a night. I do watch the NFL intimately.

Ok. I’m sorry, I don’t know of any other intelligible, yet respectful response.

95 is the new 85 in today's game, tbh.

TD anchored the greatest defensive dynasty since the Bill Russell Celtics.

I'd definitely like to have a 26 year old, Timmy. But, the reality is that won't ever happen. I'd like to have Danny Green back for his defense. Losing KaWhitter aka KaWho, DG, Dejounte Murray, and Kyle Anderson back for their defense. Pop has his work cut out for him. He needs to decide between running for President and coaching the Spurs. He gets to worked up over politics. He needs to do what he's being paid for.

Just shows that you really don't watch the games as you claim. Anderson was a very good defender last year.

I didn't watch last year. Last year sucked. Haven't watched all 82 games (or on a consistent basis) since the 2016 season, and watched about half of the 2017 season.

This is the first time in 30 years that the Spurs don't have a true franchise cornerstone. We went from Robinson to Duncan to Kawhi. Now we have midrange chucker 2nd bananas like Derozan and Aldridge as our "alphas". These two bums combined can't even beat lotto Leastern conference teams like the Magic or Heat. Spurs are officially in treadmill territory now.
