By the time the New Year arrives, the Spurs will have played 38 games. Almost half the season. The Spurs have earned a 6-4 record so far. How do you think they are going to fair with this schedule?

November : T - toss up, W - win, L - loss

10 - Rockets (4-5) T
-----
12 - @ Kings (6-5) T
14 - @ Suns (2-8) W
15 - @ Clippers (6-4) L
18 - Warriors (10-1) L
-----
19 - @ Pelicans (5-6) L
21 - Grizzlies (6-4) W
23 - @ Pacers (7-5) L
24 - @ Bucks (8-2) L
-----
26 - @ Bulls (3-9) W
28 - @ Timberwolves (4-8) T
30 - Rockets (4-5) T

December :

2 - Trailblazers (8-3) T
-----
4 - @ Jazz (5-6) L
5 - @ Lakers (5-6) L
7 - Lakers (5-6) W
9 - Jazz (5-6) T
-----
11 - Suns (2-8) W
13 - Clippers (6-4) W
15 - Bulls (3-9) W
17 - 76ers (7-5) T
-----
19 - @ Magic (4-7) L
21 - Timberwolves (4-8) W
22 - @ Rockets (4-5) L
-----
26 - Nuggets (9-2) T
28 - @ Nuggets (9-2) L
29 - @ Clippers (6-4) L
31 - Celtics (6-4) T

I think the Spurs are looking at an 8 - 11 record with 9 games that could swing either way. If the Spurs go 5-4 in those games then the Spurs could be 19-19 before Jan 1st. What should be the organization's thinking if this team is .500 before they face the Raptors for the first time on 1/3?

Spurs always seem to play like shit after holidays so that Bulls game should be a toss up.

Saying that, that Nuggets game after Christmas is probably a L.

...and calling that Celtics game on New Years Eve a toss up is optimistic. :lol

Pelicans seem to be a dumpster fire, I would put that as a win.

When have the Spurs had a win in NOLA? It's been a long time!

I have them @ 15-13 for these 28 games. Overall record of 21-17 entering the new year.

Last year we were 26-12 after 38 games just as a reference. Although last year we didn't start dropping games until February and March.

On a positive we are doing better than the 2009-10 Spurs. Remember that year? When we acquired Jefferson and Mcdyess.

we were 4-6 after 10 games. We barely won 50 games. BUT, we did beat the mavs that year as a 7th seed, that was nice.

The Kings game is looming as a loss. Nobody on this Spurs team can handle that Fox kid, for one thing.

The home games against Phoenix and Chicago are the only games that should have the Spurs as huge favorites..the road games against those teams SHOULD be wins as well, but nothing is a lock with this roster..

Everything else is a toss-up or likely loss(the road games in particular)

I think the team is still trying to figure out everyones' role, and that always takes time. I hope DeMar becomes more assertive again as he was for the first two weeks. LMA needs to play like an all star too. Right now LMA is shooting a career low 42% and you just simply can't win games when your supposedly all star player builds mansions with all those bricks. It's too early to say that LMA has declined significantly and I don't want to be that guy that jumps to conclusions too prematurely. I don't think he declined that fast. Even his FT% is lower than his rookie season. Something to do with his confidence/mental game. Physically I don't see too much decline.

I think the team will be 24-16 by end of the year. I'm fairly optimistic. We'll be all right.

The road schedule for the rest of November is absolutely brutal! After the Rockets on Saturday, eight of the next eleven games are on the road with home games against the Warriors, Grizzlies (who have beaten the Jazz twice already this season), and the Rockets again! Just kick the Spurs in the balls why don't you! The rest of this month has to be as grueling as what we all make the Rodeo Road trip out to be!

The RS goal should be to stay around 0.500 until the last 3 weeks of RS. At that point, the schedule eases the pressure on the Spurs:

Western playoff teams will be playing each other so if the Spurs make a run they might climb into the playoff tree. Let's say they go to Charlotte being 37-37 and they just lose in Denver and another game (feasible), finishing 43-39. That may be enough to make the playoffs. Remember this season there are more than 10-12 teams fighting for a playoff spot.

What the Spurs can't allow to do is not winning their easy games like these past two vs ORL and @Mia (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=48241). It's going to be hard for this team to beat playoff teams so there is not too much margin. Every single game counts.

... I hope DeMar becomes more assertive again as he was for the first two weeks.

Pop needs to quit screwing around with DDR. Immediately.

Pop moved DDR out of position to make room in the starting lineup for Forbes. Of all things. That was a belly flop into the deep end of Loon Lake.

It not only messed with DDR, it messed with LMA, because it interfered with what they were developing together. At their normal positions. That kind of crap is really really bad for morale.

Mad Scientist Pop strikes again.

... I'm fairly optimistic.

Optimistic!?! I'm sorry, but you're not fitting in with what's expected of a first-team Spurstalk participant. We're going to have to send you down to the minors, to talk about the Austin team.

I agree with you about Mad Scientist Pop. These guys are just getting chemistry developed with each other, you can't mess around with them! Plus, he's already doing the mind games of calling the team 'soft'! Because that has extra meaning in SA, but he's pulling this out now because of this Orlando and Miami losses. He does this shit every year! How about you prepare the team better before the damn games! You had two days off before the Heat game even! It's not just a bad performance by the players, Pop needs to look at what he's doing wrong as well!

It really depends on Rudy Gay's heel it seems like. Without him, truly don't know. It's been ugly games without him so far. I think Spurs will shoot better but they really lack physicality and toughness without Rudy.

Can we just stick to 10 games at a time? Too many variables with injuries and form by all teams to try and guess 30 games or so.

He should look at the roster he assembled tbh. But Pop never thinks he made a mistake. It's always the players fault. Even if all of them are end of the bench D-League level scrubs
