I just don't understand how people look at this team and think it can compete with any team in the West outside GS. Yes, LMA and DDR are stars and are good enough to get a team to the playoffs, but the rest of the pieces around them fit horribly. Like, did Pop and RC seriously think having Forbes, Mills and Beli on the team together made sense? Or having Cunningham as the only defensive wing (who sucks ass on offense)? I understand Murray going down hurt their plans, but that's no excuse for these personnel decisions. Been said ad nauseum, I know.

Belineli is supposed to be a shooter off the bench, but he hasn't been shooting well at all this season. 39%FG and 33% from 3pt. that's terrible for a guy who is supposed to be a shot maker.

White isn't a wing, and while the improving defense is nice to see it coincides with the Spurs playing shitty offensive teams outside NO (AD played through an elbow injury in that one). At the end of the day there's only so far a defensive system can take shitty defenders, and we're starting to see the limits. No problems with Gay, I like what he's been bringing on both ends.

It wasn’t in the plan that Kawhitter quit and sabotage getting us a fair trade. Great we got Demar, but could’ve gotten OG and Siakam as well if he cooperated more. On top of that we got our budding PG, 1st round pick injured, barely got White back. Gasol being healthy could help too. What you see is not planned. Spurs is doing great at 7-4 and getting better both offensively and defensively. Hey, it could be worse. Knicks has not been in the playoffs for since when? GSG.

Pau's not really "awful" though. He goes from incredible to frustrating depending on if he has the energy/desire to try. But Poe and Joff were consistently bad, and even guys like Dedmon and West weren't better on average than Gasol is most days. Like it too a really good game from them to really make them viable. Just too many holes in their games.

Cunningham can't guard wing's reliably, he's too slow footed these days. There's a reason he starts at PF. DeRozan will never be more than below average at this point, he doesn't move his feet on defense well enough (and that really isn't fixable). Spurs need an upgrade on the wing if they wanna secure a playoff spot.

The Kings made adjustments at halftime to stop the Spurs from getting as good of looks. White didn't get any further assists. Only upside there is that he got like two minutes without DeRozan. Still, DeMar played way too much considering he has someone to spell him.
This wasn't a bad loss. The Kings may make the playoffs, and losing to them on their homecourt with all the other shit going on is understandable. This was the first loss, however, where we really get a sense for how this team is going to play. (A playoff-quality game with a decently full rotation). The results weren't great. The D was okay -- the Kings just hit way too many semi-contested threes. The O was bad in the second half. If this were a series, I wouldn't feel pessimistic about SA's chances. But this does feel to be about their depth in quality right now. They're more of a 4-7 than a 2 or 3.

I'm fine with that to see if it works but we need to start winning more games and putting DeRozan in position to do his thing. The Kings are 8-6 with a harder schedule than SA has had. They might end up falling apart, but they aren't actually bad now. We're not talking about dropping one to Phoenix here. You aren't going to win every game, and this is one of those where you just "okay, whatever" and move on. It was no different than that game they dropped to Minny last year. Shit happens, and when you lose 25-35 times a year, there will be some to average or slightly below-average teams.

The Miami game might be an "okay, whatever". Might be. The Orlando game was a "throw out that film" game. Losing to an average team is normal though. By all statistical counts, SAC is an average team so far. The Spurs, by those same measures, are also an average team. Add in homecourt, and it's not surprising SA would lose. It'd be one thing if we were expecting SA to be a contender or well above-average team. But I don't think any of us were, so we shouldn't be surprised when they lose a game of average difficulty.

To stop the trolling for a while I'd say that while frustrating, you can see that the team still is not used to themselves.
Bertans looked lost on defense, Mills... IDK what to say about him, he gives nothing for now.
White and DeRozan are still learning how to play together. Forbes has yet to realize he is not the second coming of Ray Allen.
I mean, no one knows who they are on our team.
I feel like Aldridge has been told to let others discover themselves and he has accepted it.
What I mean is that this team needs to play at least half a season to let things sink in. All the team, from DeRozan to Mills, and even LA and Pop.
Only then we will know what we have, who we need and who is expendable (cof Mills cof).

Yes, but that was the point I was making. This was a toss-up game, where something like good rotations could have made the difference. This wasn't a game like Orlando where you could just burn the tape and move on. I think a bad loss is a loss a team can't afford to take (or more precisely can't afford to take many of). A loss to a team in your tier on the road should be expected. But that's not a homerish take, like you seemed to believe it was. My argument was that SA is in SAC's tier, which is about the most pessmistic thing I've ever said on this forum (even accounting for the idea that I think SAC is better than they have been in a long time). A low-seed team doesn't have the same potential for bad losses as a top team does. Two years ago, SAC, even at their current strength, would have been a bad loss. But now, it's likely par for the course.

Spurs were always a team of adults. But this time they didn’t even try to execute down the stretch and looked like a bunch of nervous rookies and not-giving-a-shit pensioners. Such a shame in the crunch-time on both ends, unbelievable. I can understand being blown out by 3 point shooting play-off team like Blazers but giving yourself this way to the freaking Kings.., come on.
Before the season start Mr Lowe said that Spurs could make the post-season only by beating lottery teams because of their “system”. Well, pathetic loses to Orlando, Miami and Sacramento don’t really support this analytic theory.

It's looking more and more like it's on the way he's being coached. Sure, half of it lies within himself, yet.. Somehow so far looks like both young Europeans respond badly to it. And both play like shells of themselves.
Doesn't help that they're both limited players, either. But, somehow it just doesn't seem right to not play to their strentgths.

easy, and Brimah is not good
Brimah can rebound and block shots. Brimah likes to chase the ball for blocks. Jakob will chase ball so he can do the inbounds.

Just watched the game off DVR. Love how Fox, Hield and Bogdanovic took turns bukkakeing the Spurs shitty guards all game
Damn looks like it's always going to be like this vs teams with good guards

Its getting scary how bad DeRozen is shooting 3's this season.
5-25 on the season (20%)
I was going to comment on his three point shooting after a watched the game, but I didn't have time as I had to go to work.
I said earlier in the season that his shooting form is no good from three point range and that I don't think he'll ever be a consistent or good three point shooter unless he changes his form. I saw a video a week or so ago with DeMar shooting threes with Chip, and I find it hard to believe that Chip is letting him shoot it like that. He's bringing the ball a little too far back and to the side of his head. He doesn't have any range with a shot like that and the accuracy is terrible.

Spurs ROYALY fucked up in trading two floor spacers for two guys who can't space the floor for shit.

I’d say we’re about average tbh.. .500 ball club when it’s all said and done imo.
That might not be a playoff team :(

Agreed. Hope he makes it work somehow though.

If it's any consolation, Jrue and Moore just dropped a big one, 59 points on the Raptors, like they spent a week on a chili diet.
The Raptors looked last night kinda like the Spurs vs Orlando. Couldn't get a stop.

I think I read that he shoots 3s differently than how he shoots midrange jumpers. That implies that he has to think about his form while shooting from 3. At this point it's murdering efficiency ; Id rather him stop taking them and focus on only 2 pointers. He's shooting well from inside the arc and still getting to the line.

Keeping Green and shipping out Gasol would've solved a bunch of this teams problems...

His form is OK inside the arc. It's a closer range shot, so his form seems to work for him inside the arc, however, I just don't think he can shoot threes unless he changes that form. I can't believe Chip is letting him shoot long range shots like that. It sucks because DeMar could reach another level if he could shoot threes decently.
