View Full Version : This team is bad as it is, no need for the refs to help, tbh...

I rarely complain about the refs, and there's a lot of reasons for losing a close game, but it's patently ridiculous how the team goes on the road and gets shafted night in and out, and then comes home and same thing...
It's not like the league is supposed to win anything by propping up a vanilla team like the Grizzlies, tbh...
No offense to the many (one?) Memphis fans here, but between the rule changes and this shit, it's annoying as fuck, tbh

Team played well tbqh
No reason to be down
Griz are a good team. Sure refs fucked up the last play but it probably balanced out in the end
But last foul was a trrible mistake. You dont call that foul on last second ever.
Hopefully pop or aomeone will shit on the refs but guys played well and time to move on
Team is doing ok with the talent they have

Game was blacked out and plans prevented me from watching game. But scoreboard watched. Something told me when it was 102-103 that a last second bucket would happen. That’s just the way this season is going tbh

I've never seen anyone get that call Gasol got with less than a minute to go. That's a no-call 999 times out of a 1000.
Aldridge's shot was worthy of a no-call in usual circumstances ... but not when the other team was gifted an iffy call on the other end.
Oh well.

Guys, relax, it's only November. Regular season games are meaningless. Spurs are traditionally slow starters and I know it looks bad but the Spurs are only four games from the #1 seed.

That’s exactly how I explained it to my uncle as we walked out of the game. Refs, you’re going to make that call on Gay, fine. But be consistent and don’t swallow the whistles on the other end. And yes, no good ref should decide the game on the line, it should be decided by makes and misses by players.
Bullshit end to a really poorly reffed game. Some bad calls happen in every game but the bad calls in this game were at critical, momentum changing times. This crew should be disciplined or demoted.

Even if Rudy bumped him you don’t call that at the buzzer, especially not at home. It just doesn’t happen.

Disagree completely
We have Derozan who would be a great 2nd banana on any team
And Gay a top shelf role player
And the rest are overall average
We are a 10th seed on any conference thus a 45% team

The Spurs have two pseudo all stars that put up numbers but don't actually make the team better.
There is nothing average about Belinelli, Forbes, Mills, Bertans, Poodle, White, Pondexter and Cunninham. They're scrubs.
They could easily have just three wins on the season. They're very lucky to be breathing that 10th seeded air and they should enjoy it while they can because I'm afraid it won't last long.

Let me just putting it this way. You are deciding a game with a heave from 3 from Aldridge... that was no way to win a game. He’s not a 3 pt shooter that had no chance to go in much like a similar heave he made in Portland last year...

Nonsense. DDR is top tier talent (even if the Spurs don't know how to use him.)
And Gay a top shelf role player
Gay is a starter. And he is an all-around player, not a specialist.
90% of people who use the term "role player" don't know what it means, except it has something to do with basketball. Bertans is a role player. A role player provides a certain function, such as 3pt shooting in Bertans' case.
And the rest are overall average
It would help if they were that good.
Forbes, who starts at the point for us, is a backup shooting guard. He is well below average at the position he is playing.
Mills is properly only a role player, another 3pt specialist. He is not an average NBA player.
Belinelli, again, a role player, a 3pt specialist. And an inferior one this season.
One could go through the rest of it, but it gets depressing. The Spurs roster is outright weird.
But other teams have their troubles as well, so we'll see how it goes.

Fat Gasol should have fouled out twice with as many calls as he was getting.
If the call against Gay was a foul - the call they let go against Gasol at the buzzer was a harder foul.
Just garbage officiating that ruined a great game played by both teams.

Had any sniper, Davis, Mills, Bryn, whomever gotten fouled I’d be upset but Aldridge on a heave. That was a shot that wasn’t going to go in. Period. Stupid unnecessary Gasol controversial foul that probably backfire on the Grizzlies somewhere else. It was unnecessary. Aldridge wasn’t going to make that shot.

Agree with the confusion over the play section at the end. pop overthinking it. Just run DeMar off a double screen with Forbes, Mills, Beli or Bert as backups and if they double somebody, one will be open. Why they had LMA take any shot not at the rim or even his usual 15-20ft range there was bad play calling IMO.
And of course it was a foul. But LMA wasn’t going to make a 26 foot 3 to win the game.

I can't rewatch the last play because of the terrible no call. But it appeared it was a back cut for Gay. Gasol sat back which allowed LMA room. Gasol aggressively challenged the shot. With point seven on the clock, if you get an open look anywhere square to the basket, you take it.

it sucks bc the refs scarfed the spurs 3 best players with those 2 calls:
1 - gay's foul on gasol
2 - lma's no-call by gasol
3 - negating DDR's beautiful clutch jumper with the bs free throws

Hey here's an idea. Call them fairly regardless of the point in time of the game.
Foul on Rudy (clear contact when Gasol getting ready to shoot) and clear foul on Gasol during/after LMAs shot.

The NBA ruled 3 incorrect calls on the refs in the 4th quarter of the Memphis game this Wednesday. All were to the detriment of your Los Spurs. Including the foul on LMA to end the game.
https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2018/11/L2M-MEM-SAS-11-21-2018.pdf
Of course, no accountability, just a random pdf that nobody but die hard Spurs fans read.
And out of curiosity, here is one report of total incorrect calls (and non calls) on all teams last year. Spurs are middle of the pack.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/which-nba-team-is-wronged-by-the-refs-the-most/
Worriers, of course, have 100% incorrect non calls, and 0 "bad calls" (i.e. 100% of their numbers that made them "middle of the pack" were inconsequential post game bulllshit lines added to the pdfs to make it seem like they aren't heavily favored by the refs every game).
