Just curious what you all think our team would look like right now if Dejounte was not out this year. What's the ceiling for that Spurs team?

I mean, I don't think so, really. It's interesting (to me, anyway) to speculate about what could have been, and maybe gives some insight into what next year might be like. But no one is forcing you to think about it if you don't want to.

Very good. Because I guarantee you that what’s missing on this team is someone with his vocal leadership that would get the best out of the team to get through crucial moments in games. I know he’s young but he’s the type to make other players not want to slack off. Missing that badly.

Second best team in the West tbh. I called out a lot of the western teams before this year started bc I knew they were all extremely flawed. We actually have a modern NBA team ( I know the haters are shocked) if we had the combination of a healthy Murray, White, and Walker at the start of the season. Along with Metu being drafted and Jakob doing the dirty work out there, this roster looks really well put together... Once we draft a small forward lol. But I knew Houston and NO would regress. I knew butler wanted out and that would weaken the Wolves. Portland is still the Guests and the Lebrons can't guard anyone or make 3s consistently. His injury I feel really did cost us a chance at the western conference finals.

Honestly this team would be soooooo good on the perimeter defensively with White and Murray. Murray looked like he was on his way to becoming a solid spot up shooter.
Murray
White
DeRozan
Gay
Aldridge
Would do some damage. Easily 50+ wins.

Last years Murray would make this a 50 win team. Based on what was coming out of camp pre-injury, he probably would’ve been the second best player on the team after DeRozan. Then add a healthy Gasol and Walker... who knows?

Who knows, but I agree that he would bring vocal leadership and defense, and probably ignite players to give more effort. Also it would be way more fun to watch just to see what Murray can do.

If he had developed a shot, court vision, dribbling and passing skills over the summer I'd say the Spurs would have 6 more wins right now. If we had last year's version of Murray we might be a game or two better off at this point. His defense is missed, but a lot of his game was a liability on many nights.

his offensive rebounds and his agility are incredible, I still watch his HL from last season sometimes

I doubt opposing backcourts would average 40-50 like they do against Forbes/Mills though

Three more wins would mean a record of 17-11, instead of being a .500 team, which would put the Spurs in the 6th spot, 2 games out of first. I think that would be a pretty big deal.

Murray was being groomed to be the starting point guard for the spurs. He now has some playoff experience and motivation to get better.
Those playoffs were hard to watch and i think it pissed him off that the Warriors had no respect for him leaving him so open. He seems to know what parts of his game he needs to improve on. Looked like he was making good progress in all the key areas during the summer (offensive game and a corner 3). Add onto that he was the vocal leader and defensive anchor of the team even being one of the youngest.
I think its safe to say we would not have stumbled so hard and kept a positive w/r through the season.

Spurs are not just missing his play and production and D. He was an upbeat, positive and optimistic leader. All the injuries, on top of the departure of our veterans, have made the team discombobulated with no definite identity, and chemistry is very fragile. I think we'd easily be top 4 in WC.

Ah, so you're one of those spoiled fans who says anything short of an NBA title is a completely wasted season, even if the team is obviously in rebuilding mode after losing five key players in a two year span. You're awesome.

Wrong—I just don’t think we should celebrate mediocrity. Instead of celebrating some meaningless playoff streak, I’d rather not celebrate mediocrity and make the most out of this season by getting a lottery pick.

Probably plus 3 wins if you factor in all the other injurys like Gasol, Walker. so Spurs could be 17-11 if Murray was playing and healthy.

Maybe 2. I think Murray, if he was that breakout year candidate, is good for about 5 to 7 games per season and this stage. I think we probably beat Clipper for example if Murray was there and maybe Lakers as well.

Everybody here is sooo optimistic.
Sure, the defense with Murray would be miles better. But I'm afraid offense would be worse because of the spacing. We would have Murray, DeMar & LA -- 3 of the starting 5 and the most heavy-minutes guys -- not shooting 3s. Everybody gravitating to the same spots. If you put White there it would be even worse until he starts knocking 3s.
I think the improvement would be a couple of games, not more. I like Murray but Murray + DeMar + LA just don't seem to me a cohesive combo offensively
Meh... 3 more wins at best
Which would put them 2 games behind top spot GS...

If everybody’s healthy, had a chance to play more, and the bizarre start in the West, it’s not surprising if Spurs turned to be on top of the West tbh. Spurs can score, just cannot stop other teams from scoring.

We know how good he is defensively but we still don’t completely know how much offensively he grew. If he’s still just a defender, maybe 3 or 4 more wins. If his offense is growing too, who knows. Maybe up there with the Thunder record wise

We would be better with Murray, obviously.
Having him would have the team enacting the coaching staff's Plan A for the season. My guess is that Plans B, C and D are not as solid.
The upside is that the team is working on improving weaknesses this season. That could make us a lot better next year when we have a better roster.

How good would the Raptors be this year with DeMar instead of "I only play half the games and at 60%" Kawhi?
How good would the Spurs be this year with "I have a shitty attitude, don't provide any leadership yet demand a huge ass contract and don't ever talk, plus I'm always injured or hold myself out of games and loaf around at 60%" Kawhi?

10th seed instead of 11th....or whatever we're at.

Depends on how he did on offense. He showed a more confident pull-up, but that doesn't seem to jive with DeRozan's game. Pop wanted DJM to run off rebounds a lot, and I think there would have been some potential there, especially with Gay thriving in a quick-post offense. Murray spotting up well would have helped prevent a big drop-off, but it doesn't look like DMDR really does well sharing the ball, at least not with Aldridge also taking touches. Having a dude like Cun starting would just make it harder to see it working.
Defensively, I can't imagine it being worse. I've been more skeptical of Murray's impact than most here, but I don't see how having him instead of Beli, Forbes or Mills wouldn't be a big improvement. His ability to secure rebounds alone could have won the team more games. Thinking of that first LAC game in particular. A PG is also the first line of defense on a fast-break, and that's the element of defense where the team's lack of physical talent hurts them the most. I wouldn't've expected him to be Prime Danny Green at stopping the break, but he should be better than the guys now who seem to allow an And-1 any time they are near the opposing player.

I definitely think he would be playing something but can't argue that White could've been left on the bench. You dont become the starter when Murray goes out unless the staff had plans for you to play right away. I believe Walker would've been in G league and DeRozan would be been full time SF. Leaving plenty the gaurd play to 5 gaurds: Forbes, Belli, Mills, White, Murray. I believe all would've split and sit depending on matchups and who was playing better, imo. Murray plus White would be trouble for any backcourt. Very exciting to see that in the future.

Murray’s potential impact is completely impossible to say. Depended entirely on his improvement as a scorer and playmaker this year which is a complete unknown. Plugging in last years performance it would certainly have significantly improve Spur’s defense and rebounding obviously. Downside is it may have slowed White’s playing time and progress which should have huge benefits next year with Murray back and Walker beginning to be added to the fold plus Poeltl’s continued development. Scrounge up another SF and big and Spurs’ future and youth should look bright in 19-20.

Offense would look a bit weird but defense would improve a lot. I said this team would be #2 in the West before his injury.
