You're moving the goalpost. Spurs have issues but LMA missing FT's down the stretch had little do with the 23 minutes prior to that. The Bulls were allowed to play aggressive, handsy D in era when you can't. The bulls would have had more steals than fouls in that second half. That put the Spurs offense right out of the game and they could not recover. It meant that down the stretch DD was playing aggressive O and was never rewarded for hacking hands.

How would Lavine or Valentine help on the defensive end here? It was not that the Bulls lit the Spurs up with offense, where the Spurs showed no ability to defend and they did it without Lavene. This was purely on the foundation that the Bulls were allowed to play handsy defense in a time when you are not allowed too, and the Spurs guards had no way to handle that. And I don't blame them being unable to adapt that quickly.
