Would you be interested in acquiring Rivers if you're the Spurs front office? Not me.

:lol So Phoenix didn't even get a guard out of the trade?

Real-talk, the Suns are sort of fucking themselves with these early buyouts. They'd make better use of those guys if they kept them for matching trades rather than letting them go and converting them into dead money.

If the Suns waive your ass on a position they sorely need help in, your career might as well be over.

Ariza is shooting 48% at the rim, on open looks.

He is Wesley Crusher.

Has to be relied on in the playoff is like a lot of the Wesley saves the ship stuff. Father is coach = Mom on the ship.

He goes of the ship, disaster happens.

He will be back on the Enterprise or he will go away with the Traveler.

I just found out the Suns traded Ariza for Oubre. They didn't even get a second pick round? Spurs couldn't beat that?

Oubre is a very exciting player on paper, he has the prototypical body for his position. And he is above average defensively. But, and that's important, he lacks Basket Ball IQ! And he is going to demand to get paid next summer (restricted free agent).

So, it's a no-no for me.

We have enough guards and Rivers isn't a true PG, rather than a combo guard. We don't have time for Walker. White still isn't getting big minutes.

Wow he was an expiring contract. It could have been of some value to someone wanting to shed salary. He was used to match up salaries with Ariza, but Suns could have gotten a bad contract from somebody in exchange too. It’s just weird. I frankly don’t see what the Suns were doing here except perhaps a favor to Ariza.

Whats humiliating for Rivers is that the Suns need a PG. Well at least Paddy Mills Daddy is out of the league...

Yeah, I guess Oubre was the Suns' sole target. Must have determined they couldn't anything for Rivers expiring. Interesting.

So, it's a no-no for me.

He also lacks good one-on-one skills or a consistent perimeter game. He is too reliant on cuts to the rim and the occasional, sporadic three - pointer.

His days in D.C. were numbered, anyway, but losing a young, promising piece for cap relief sucks.

As far as Austin Rivers is concerned, I'd say no thanks. The team needs another combo forward/swingman to pair with all our young guards and Rudy Gay. Not another combo guard that will eat up time and resources.

As much as it pains me to say this, Rivers would be a good grab.

timvp
12-18-2018, 07:27 PM
It's tempting because he's a 26-year-old in his prime who has a ton of experience and has hit some big shots in the playoffs (:() but I just can't co-sign on signing Rivers for the minimum. Offensively, he's a bad mix of too ball-dominant without being a good shooter or a good playmaker. That's pretty much the opposite of what the Spurs need. Add in sub par defense and I'd much rather just keep a path open for White to eventually soak up minutes.

Advanced stats are very unkind to Rivers. Real plus-minus, for example, ranks him has the 433rd best player in the NBA out of 455, with his offense and defense equally as terrible.

Pass.

So i dont get why Suns did this trade. they gave up a trade piece that a lot of teams wanted for a player they waived and a player they did not even want. They tried to have a third team take Oubre. They got no picks so why did they do this deal?

I think so too. He wrecked us in the playoffs in 2015 as well as a couple regular season games over the years.

I doubt anyone offered us a first rounder for Ariza, or else we probably would have done that. Apparently he was becoming too toxic to hold onto until the trade deadline. He didn't want to be here.

I think we intended to keep Rivers until the 3 game win streak and now they don't want to mess up the chemistry.

Phoenix have so many 3s - Oubre, Josh Jackson, TJ Warren, Bridges - something's got to give. Seems like they're high on Bridges, TJ Warren's extension just kicked in and they probably liked Oubre to do that trade way before the deadline. Wonder when they'll sour completely on Jackson. They don't even try to play him at the 4 and his development has stagnated, he's on the Marquese Chriss trajectory, only Jackson's been even worse. But still a good project if that shot is somewhat fixable.

12-19-2018, 02:52 AM
I still really like Jackson's skills...he could be just what we need at sf (expecially if Chip start immediately to work on improving his outside shot). Considering Phoenix needs to mentor Ayton, maybe they could be interested in trade Him and Bender for Pau...I would't mind to include a second draft choice too.
