So how many more checks do people miss before they start turning on trump? Or do they care about the wall more than a place to live and food on the table. Or do they just blame the dems like dear leader tells them to?

This is a fucked up deal. Both sides have backed themselves into a corner. If either capitulates now their base will be furious and they will look weak.

The only way this gets resolved is if moderates on both sides of the aisle in the Senate get together and come up with a compromise plan that gives both sides something they can declare victory on....DACA, border funding less than 5.7 million, and hopefully some more immigration judges and then just cram it publicly down Trump and Pelosi/Schumers throat.

i get it. im laughing at the fact that it's not gonna happen.

they tried when daca was being revoked.. and going further back with the gang of 8 stuff. we know how it goes. democrats have been dumb for whining about the "immoral" aspect of the wall, because now they've backed themselves into a spot where they can never even negotiate it. rather than placing the focus on the funding/expense and alternate solutions. in that case, they could have said we'll give you x percentage, or only x miles of wall, but in exchange we want x more immigration judges or whatnot.

it might be bias, but i think the optics are worse on trump since he owned the shutdown going way back. the people out of work care more about their mortgage than a wall. having the border security standoff made sense in the context of daca negotiations. doesnt make a lick of sense here. i dont think he's gonna win out.

It's different with this Pelosi/Trump standoff. She can't show weakness to the left wing Jackals nipping at her heels in the House and Trump really doesn't give a shit if 800,000 federal workers go without pay. Neither one is going to back down until they are forced to.

This is a fucked up deal. Both sides have backed themselves into a corner. If either capitulates now their base will be furious and they will look weak.

Democrats on the House started to send appropriations bills to the Senate so the government can be open piecemeal, without the border security part. Then it's on Trump and cocaine Mitch. That's their gameplan, and it makes sense, there's no need to keep the government shut down over this discussion about the wall.

Nah, what's going to happen is people are going to start getting angry, Democrats and going to point the finger at those bills above, and say it's up to them, and Trump is going to save face by declaring a national emergency and try to save face that way (blaming the democrats, obviously). Then it's up to the courts to decide.

At White House, Empty Desks and Unpaid Bills as Trump Shows No Sign of Relenting

President Trump seemed to express wonder at being alone in the White House with little but the cheeriness of heavily armed guards to keep him warm for the better part of a week.

“I was waving to them,” Mr. Trump said just after New Year’s Day. “I never saw so many guys with machine guns in my life.

Secret Service and military. These are great people.”

And the Secret Service agents Mr. Trump was so impressed with, ... are all working unpaid — everyone in the Secret Service is,

Only 156 of the Executive Mansion’s 359 full-time employees are allowed to report for duty because their work is considered essential,

Trump Got Rich by Screwing Over Workers—Of Course He’s Doing It Again as President

“For decades, Trump repeatedly didn’t pay those who worked for him, and now that he’s in the White House, little has changed.”

The biggest lie ever told in American politics is the claim that Donald Trump cares about working people.
He never has. He never will.

As a bankruptcy-prone business mogul, Trump has always financed his lavish lifestyle at the expense of the workers and contractors he screwed over.

Now he is doing the same thing as president, having engineered a government shutdown (https://www.afge.org/article/shutdown-update/) that on Friday denied 800,000 federal employees their paychecks.

“Cheating, scamming, and ripping off workers is a Donald Trump tradition that goes back decades.

Federal workers are just Trump’s latest victims,”

federal workers ... have take home pay of about $500 a week and

in many case “struggle to make ends meet even without a missed paycheck.”

Trump has as president “betrayed workers at every turn.”

“From

rolling back health, safety and wage protections to

misleading coal miners to tax giveaways for billionaires and big corporations that

left most Americans with a pittance,” says Weissman,

“it should be obvious by now that Trump holds working people beneath contempt.

Non-College White Voters Are Abandoning Trump As America Suffers From His Shutdown

Trump’s approval rating is underwater among white voters without college degrees – one of his strongest areas of support during the 2016 campaign – for the first time since February 2018.

Forty-seven percent of these voters disapprove of the job he is doing,

while just 45 percent think he’s doing a fine job.

More stunning, according to CNN, is that this group of voters believes by a

45-39 margin that Trump – not Democrats – is responsible for the government shutdown.

Trump’s Shutdown, the Longest in History, Mostly Hurts States That Voted for Him (https://splinternews.com/trump-s-shutdown-the-longest-in-history-mostly-hurts-1831705841)

On Saturday, Axios reported that rural western states that voted for Trump in 2016 “are disproportionately affected (https://www.axios.com/record-shutdown-hits-trump-states-hard--bb128475-0679-46ce-a597-b9e7f4b6d8db.html) by the government shutdown,”

six of the 10 states with the most federal employees affected by the shutdown went for Trump over candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016. Those states are

Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Idaho, and West Virginia.

The report includes an interactive map showing nine departments affected by the partial shutdown—Homeland Security, HUD, Commerce, Interior, Transportation, State, Agriculture, Justice, and Treasury—as well as employees affected at the EPA, FDA, Indian Health Services, NASA, and Small Business Administration.

Rural farm country, Trump's base, has been devastated by his shutdown—everywhere but in California (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/1/12/1825269/-Rural-farmland-Trump-s-base-has-been-devastated-by-his-shutdown-everywhere-but-in-Cali)

Donald Trump has literally ruined thousands of farms that have suffered tremendously with the large drop in commodity prices and falling income.

Trump’s reckless trade war with our allies has cost billions so far. Through it all, however, the farmers have largely stuck with him.

Well, that may be about to change. (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/10/us/farmers-trump-administration.html)

But as the government shutdown now drags into a third week,

some farmers say the loss of crucial loans, payments and other services has

pushed them — and their support — to a breaking point.

While many rural conservatives may loathe the idea of Big Government,

farmers and the federal government are welded together by dozens of programs and billions of dollars in spending.

Now, farmers and farm groups say that

federal crop payments have stopped flowing.

Farmers cannot get federally backed operating loans to buy seed for their spring planting,

or feed for their livestock.

They cannot look up new government data about beef prices or soybean yields

to make decisions about planting and selling their goods in an ever-changing global market.

Farmers and other rurals like rural telephone/electric coops love "free market", "capitalism", Rugged Individualism, vote Repugs,

but they are perennial beneficiaries of taxpayer $Bs, aka, redistributive socialism.
