Dubs is imploding and I doubt they will be back next year. With the growth of our young players this year, and a healthy squad coming back next year, who knows? It’s up for grab. I don’t really see anybody in the West unless KD/AD joins LeBron. But if we get a decent 3nD with Pau’s expiring contract, who knows? Pops could maybe stay to beat another Dream Team.

After next season? That’s the season after this one. That’s about when I expected him to retire anyways. But thanks for the info.

Sure we've all speculated that he might be done soon, but this is the first time where I have heard it from somewhere other than Spurstalk.

The fuck you talking about Willis? Auntfocker is spot on .0026 percent of the time. Don't ya know he called Bobo to Spurs?

In all fairness tho, Mo seems legit. He nailed the Nephew debacle.

Except, Mo has legitimate inside sources. It does seem that he's reaching that point where the "passion" isn't there, but he's done so much for the NBA, San Antonio and the fanbase that he deserves to retire whenever he wants.

Hard to know about the passion, he's done a good job with adjusting to the current roster.

I heard during LAST season from a seasons ticket holder who does business with one of the ownership consortium and they are less than happy with Pop’s politics. He’s gone after 2019-2020.

I somehow doubt Pop's political beliefs will influence whether or not he is with this team in the future.

You’re entitled to your opinion. It wasn’t so much the beliefs, but his using his position as a podium for them. The kicker seemed to be when he said we were a racist country. Since most, if not all of the ownership is rich old white guys who are just fine with both where the country is, and where it’s heading, he just basically called all of them racists.

And good for him, tbh. We are a privileged country, at minimum. At least some of us are. Sometimes truths are hard to swallow, especially for those who have basked in that privilege.

Yeah, no doubt. He's done an admirable job coaching with the pieces around DeMar and LaMarcus. I'd still rather have the team miss the playoffs and acquire a lottery pick, but Pop isn't about tanking....

Interesting, I thought San Antonio was a liberal town and he's cut back a lot of the vitriol towards Trump this season.

I'm shocked that his outspokenness about politics might play a part in his ousting/retirement.

I don’t think he leaves in a complete disarray. I think he has some responsibility correcting what mess Kiwi created before handing to the next coach. With our developing youngsters, I think the future is bright. Spurs could be competitive in a year or two.

If the Spurs make the playoffs and compete there is no better way to sail off into the sunset. The perfect picture of his greatness through all the turmoil of the last year .

Pop haters don't know how good we got it. Wait until there is a new coach every three seasons.

The ball's in Pop's court when it comes to him coaching. Ownership wants him here. He's the one who is undecided.

I think Pop would like to try and build one more dominant team. He has the guard spots set. Bertans could turn into something special. Poetl is serviceable. Still need need to find another couple of players who can excel at the forward positions like the guard spots.

Hope he comes back for another year. With the right moves this team has a punchers chance to get to the finals next year after playing together for a full season and the young guys improving further. I think Monty Williams would be a good coach to take on Pop's legacy. Or if we're really lucky Brad Stevens somehow gets fired. Who knows, but I still rather have Pop coaching. He's the GOAT

If Pop stays as POBO then the transitional period will be smooth but if he desides to cut all ties with the team then things could go south fast. I'm all for Becky H. to become head coach but i'd feel more confident if Pop gives her the job..

I would think he would be next in line. Ime Udoka might be the other choice. Although Messina has had great success in Europe, I wonder if he can relate with the American basketball culture and its players. Ime might be better in that case as he was a former player but don't know if he's a good "x and o" type coach.

1. Ime
2. Messina
3. Becky

Would be the current pecking order. Ime has been assistant for a long time now. Longer then people think.
